absolutely amazing food, service, and atmosphere! came in the evening with a group of five, the owner and staff were very accommodating with closing times. food was best we have had in moalboal, strong contender for top food in the philippines! a slight trek through the lodge are, but very worth the trip!!

We stayed here for one night. The setting is undeniably beautiful, surrounded by mangroves and wildlife; we saw monitor lizards, geckos, mudskippers, and fireflies. Unfortunately, the experience was let down by poor communication and inconsistent management.
Access to the property requires crossing a ~100m bamboo bridge, which is uneven, partially broken, and difficult with luggage. When we arrived, with 6 others including elderly, no staff were present to assist, there was no phone signal to contact the resort, and the office was closed anyways.
The restaurant serves very good food; it’s pricey, but delicious. Still, we waited around 90 minutes for two burgers (550 pesos each) while the restaurant was nearly empty. The owner mentioned being short-staffed, but there was no apology or effort to manage expectations.
The room (private cottage) was very basic: no A/C, unreliable WiFi (worked maybe 30 minutes the whole time) and no toiletries or toilet paper; the queen bed is simply two twins pushed together. The overall standard is minimal for the price, but it’s an eco lodge, so this was expected.
The main issue was inconsistency in communication with the owners. We were told kayaks were unavailable at arrival but we could use them the following day, and were explicitly (and insistently) offered a late checkout since our room was not booked.
The next day, kayaks were still unavailable, which we learned when attempting to take them out ourselves, as they are unattended by the dock. We were stopped and told we “lacked common sense” by the owner for putting the boat in the water. This was a simple misunderstanding that could’ve been avoided with clearer communication or a “closed / contact office for assistance” sign near the kayaks, but instead was handled pretty unprofessionally.
We were later told we had no late checkout arrangement, and told to leave immediately. Luckily, we were packed already, as we only stayed past check in to use the kayaks (as I thought we’d agreed the previous day) but we were made to feel guilty over it.
I really wanted to love this place, but the lack of clear communication made it difficult to trust what we were being told and significantly impacted the experience. The location is beautiful, but the management and inconsistency outweighed it for us.

Access to the resort is by a bamboo boardwalk; we know this requires constant maintenance and we have two workers in every week whose main job is to keep it in reasonable repair. We tell all guests *before* arrival about the boardwalk, that it is awkward with wheelie cases and tell them that staff are available to help on request. We know that the cell signal for some providers is poor which is why we ask you to contact us in advance or give us an arrival time if you need help.
We try to be as environmentally-friendly as possible and so we have never offered A/C and we say clearly on our pages that we only use ceiling fans for the whole resort. We provide bio-degradable shower gel and unbleached toilet paper in all cottages and dorms, plus a bidet spray in the cottages. We do not provide toothbrushes, toothpaste or shampoo since we consider these personal items. Our double beds are two single beds *bolted* together, this allows us to easily cater for guests who are not couples as well as offering large, comfortable beds for couples.
Our free distributed wifi is fiber-optic from PLDT and is generally reliable however over the Easter weekend, PLDT had severe reliability issues which are also out of our control. You didn't mention anything during your stay about poor or no Internet access.
As regards kayaking, you were informed when this was available (we are restricted by local tides) and that a guide is provided. When you tried to take a kayak by yourselves with no guide and earlier than the time given to you, you were told that this was not permitted.
For your late checkout, this was indeed agreed the day before however you did not inform us until when you wanted to keep the cottage and after lunch on checkout day we only asked you to give us a time for your checkout. You said you were ready to go so we assisted you to get your bag to our parking area.
Finally you complained about the time taken to serve two burgers and their price, we are sorry that you had to wait and we hope that the burgers were worth it. We were short-staffed that day which affected serving times and you were informed about this. For our prices, we monitor meal prices locally and we know that our prices are competitive with similar establishments and our quality is usually significantly higher. Of course we cannot and will not compete with caranderias in the market.
We are sorry that you did not enjoy our place and we hope that you find destinations more to your liking in future journeys. Happy travels.

☺ Un endroit magique au milieu de la mangrove. Des hôtes très attentionnés et sympathiques. L'ensemble du staff est adorable et très professionnel.
Les.constructio's sont belles et s'intègrent parfaitement à l'environnement. Dortoir spacieux et confortable avec des rangements, prise et lumière individuelle.Les repas sont délicieux avec des prix corrects (un peu au-dessus de mon petit budget de backpacker mais je ne peux pas comparer la street food avec la qualité des produits et du service d'Ekapo verde! De plus j'ai pu goûter a des spécialités Filipino qu'on trouve rarement sur les cartes des autres restaurants, donc très bonne expérience culinaire).

Il y a des fenêtres avec moustiquaire au niveau de chaque lit, ce qui est parfait pour faire circuler l'air mais pas trop pour l'intimité du coup. Obligé d'aller dans les sanitaires qui sont dans un autre bâtiment pour se changer.

Our three-night stay at Eskapo Verde Lodge was absolutely incredible. It is a peaceful, quiet, and stunning oasis that perfectly delivers on everything it promises online.
The Location & Vibe
The property is located on a breathtaking island of mangroves and coral. Arriving involves walking across a beautiful bamboo boardwalk to get to the accommodations, which immediately sets a serene, close-to-nature tone. They have even placed three hammocks right in the middle of the mangrove forest at the edge of the peninsula—it is the perfect shady spot to catch a great breeze and relax.
The Cottages
We stayed in a charming cottage built from local materials like bamboo and coconut wood. The design is exceptionally well thought out! Thanks to the ceiling fan, louvered windows, and excellent natural ventilation, it stayed cool and comfortable. Best of all, every window is screened, so we didn't have a single bug inside the cottage. To top it off, the beds and pillows were incredibly comfortable, and the shower had great water pressure with hot water.
Dining & Hospitality
The restaurant is right on the water's edge, making it the ultimate spot to watch the sunset every night. The chef and staff produce high-quality, incredible-tasting food. They offer many vegetarian options and unique dishes that you rarely find elsewhere in the world.
What truly makes this place special is the people. We met both of the owners, who were remarkably hospitable and eager to make our stay the best it could be. The entire staff was helpful, kind, and friendly throughout our visit.
Activities
If you love the water, they offer kayaking and paddleboarding with direct access to the beach. You can even snorkel right off the property and see sea turtles swimming by!
Eskapo Verde is a truly magnificent, eco-friendly lodge that is beautifully built right into the environment. We cannot recommend it enough!

Visitors to the Philippines often assume that you must have air-con to be comfortable, however as you mentioned, with careful design and siting, keep rooms cool without air-con is not that difficult! We provide free hot and cold water at a central refill point very close to the cottages which we feel is a more sustainable solution than individual units that spend most of their time unused. Hot and cold water for guests is also available free at the restaurant during operating hours.

Good eco-stay at Escapo Verde.
I recently stayed at Escapo Verde on Cebu and wanted to share my experience. The hotel is located right in a nature reserve with mangroves and jungle, which is great if you like birdwatching—there are many rare species around.
The layout is nice: they have several detached cottages. It’s quiet enough to both relax and get some work done, and the Wi-Fi worked fine for my needs.
The food at the restaurant was a big plus. The breakfasts are excellent, and they also serve lunch and dinner. The portions are large, and the prices are quite fair, not overpriced at all.
What I liked most was the staff. The administrators and everyone else are very friendly and helpful. They solved all my requests quickly and made the place feel very welcoming and "homey."
Overall, I’d recommend this spot to anyone looking for a quiet nature retreat near Panagsama Beach. It’s a good choice for a peaceful vacation or just a calm getaway.
