Great seasonal or over night camping

Pros: beautiful art placid lake and lots of trees and open spaces. Bathrooms were in great shape and clean. Friendly greeting from staff. Very quiet at night
Cons: this is a very family friendly campground. If you have kids this is a pro as they will have no trouble making friends and having fun! If you are looking for peace and quiet look elsewhere. There were kids using the campsites next to ours as their personal bike jump park for hours each evening and loud groups of children screaming and carrying in until 10:00pm.
Showers cost $1 and were not very warm at all
We ask the staff a question on the way out and got a snarky response. Not a great way to end our stay
We recently spent 5 days camping at McGowan Lake Campground in Maberly, Ontario, and had an absolutely wonderful stay!
We were looking for a much-needed getaway where we could relax, unwind and do as little as possible, and this campground was perfect. This was our first time staying here, and we were so impressed with everything.
The campground is beautiful, clean and very well maintained. The owners and everyone we met were incredibly friendly and welcoming. The sandy beach is beautiful, and the dog park is clean and well maintained, which was a huge bonus for us and our little dog!
It was exactly the relaxing camping experience we were hoping for. We thoroughly enjoyed our 5 days and will definitely be back next year!
Highly recommend McGowan Lake Campground to anyone looking for a clean, friendly and beautiful place to camp. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
It was a great campground! It was huge and beautiful with a nice beach. It was really quiet and peaceful. Very kid and family friendly. Service at the front was kind and happy as well. The only reason I gave a 4 star is because there is A LOT of poison ivy everywhere that we walked. Just on the edges of the paths and surrounding our whole campsite. While yes we are in nature and should expect kind of anything, if I hadn't noticed it or just didn't know what to look out for, my kids would have definitely gotten a rash from it. As a loose ball or toy slightly off the actual campsite would have gotten them to touch it.
I would definitely visit again though and my kids and I had a blast!
We had a lovely one night stay here. April and Nicola were super helpful and friendly 😄 lots of facilities for kids and pets. Very dog friendly. We will definitely be back! Friendly full timers too 😄
I was visiting family who have a trailer at McGowan Lake. She prepaid the small guest fee on my behalf so when I arrived, I just identified myself over the entrance intercom and the security gate opened. I have been here many times and can confirm this is a family orientated campground where vehicles move very slowly and the children are the ones moving quickly as they play everywhere including the playground and beach areas. There is a real sense of community at the camp.
We loved our stay at
Mcgowen lake. Going to book again
Mcgowans lake is a great campground. Very family oriented, respectful, nice campground sites and a great beach.
Very clean bathrooms. Very attentive & helpful owner.
Great place to camp, quiet, some sites are semi private. Great hosts
McGowan Lake now has a Bunkie, and my family was able to be the first to stay ,and it was wonderful time, We had three days over Canada Day, my sister and her husband stayed in it for two days and had grandkids hanging out both days and they loved it, I stayed the third night and enjoyed it very much, a perfect location beside the beach, inside there is two beds,
a day bed that is very comfortable and also the full size bed that is extremely comfortable, there are two large windows that provide a nice breeze ,a great deck to sit and enjoy sunset, the camp is maintained at the highest level, very clean facilities, super friendly helpful staff
If your looking for a great vacation, this is the place , I have stayed in Bunkies throughout western Canada and McGowan Lake Bunkie is the nicest I have seen,
Being the first to stay and post on my experience, I look forward to reading about others time spent in the Bunkie and how much they enjoyed it,
CHEERS and enjoy your stay

Dirty rundown camp ground . No doors on bathroom stalls . Camp sights over run by ants . They DO NOT ENFORCE QUIET HOURS . VERY Loud music and drunk parties till we finally called police at 3 am.
