If you’re only going to do one tour in Atacama you should do the Piedras Rojas tour. Amazing scenery and history of the geology and its relation with the native populations through history. What made our tour great was the engagement and enthusiasm by the tour team Felipe, Juan Carlos and Jose. Extra plus to Felipe who with great interest and knowledge described everything from geological processes to the old beliefs of the mountains.
And if you are going to do two tours I highly recommend doing the astronomical tour with Manu, Jota, Elias and Ariel. During this tour we went out to a magical place without any light pollution, getting absolutely stunning views through telescope and the story about the stars in the sky and the history of how astronomy has developed. Especially appreciated that one of the guides (forgot the name) took us non Spanish speakers in a small group and explained with great enthusiasm as well as answered questions about the night sky.

La verdad maravillosa agencia desde principio a fin, el vendedor fue claro, organizó los tour a mi medida y no me presionó como otras agencias a comprar de inmediato.Habian problemas por el clima y me creo dos itinerarios uno en caso que se cerrarán las atracciones. Los tour fueron espectaculares, una maravilla, quisiera destacar al Capitán! Gran conductor, muy amable y atento. (se mando tremendos desayunos) y a Felipe que fue mi guía en dos ocasiones, habla inglés (mi pareja es extranjera) y te explica todo de una manera tan apasionada que da gusto escuchar, incluso mostró un material infográfico qué me ayudo a entender mejor!!! Muy seco!!. En fin superó mis expectativas. Muchas gracias a todos!!

O passeio foi incrível, tivemos uma experiência maravilhosa. Estávamos sozinhos no Vale do Arcoiris e isso fez com que pudéssemos aproveitar cada momento. We booked five tours with Atacama Connection and were disappointed by repeated last-minute changes and poor communication.
Our Moon Valley + Mars Valley tour was altered two hours before departure due to another couple cancelling. We were reassigned to a different operator that did not include Mars Valley, resulting in a partial refund. During the Moon Valley tour, the guide failed to inform guests about access to the most iconic jagged rock viewpoint, causing many people to miss a key highlight entirely.
The most serious issue occurred with the El Tatio Geysers tour. After completing stargazing at 12:30am, we woke at 4am and waited outside our hotel at the designated time, as instructed. We waited for over an hour without pickup or communication and were never added to the expected WhatsApp group, either the night before or that morning. Only after I contacted the sales representative were we informed that the tour had been cancelled due to a car accident that we were told had occurred the previous day. While we understand and sympathise with unforeseen accidents, the lack of proactive communication was unacceptable. If the incident occurred the day prior, there was ample opportunity to notify paying customers in advance. Being informed only after being left waiting — and only because we reached out — seriously undermined our confidence in how the situation was handled. Another tour company we spoke to suggested it was likely an internal oversight rather than an unavoidable emergency, which, given the lack of communication and how events unfolded, unfortunately aligned with how the situation felt from our side.
Our frustration is not with the accident itself, but with the preventable communication failures that followed. We were told that the accident had taken all of the team’s attention. This was difficult to reconcile, as the staff we were communicating with were sales and office personnel whose role is specifically to communicate with customers and reorganise bookings when disruptions occur.
This disruption rendered an entire day unusable and forced us to cancel Piedras Rojas the following day. At the office, a refund was offered, which we consider the bare minimum. Compensation was only discussed after we raised the issue ourselves, rather than being proactively offered in recognition of the inconvenience caused. While we understand the staff member could not make those decisions herself, she could have offered to speak with her manager without us having to ask. The sales representative we dealt with was friendly and polite, and while we appreciated her manner, she was also our primary point of contact. Clearer communication from her side, including notifying us of the cancellation in advance, would have prevented us from being left waiting in the cold.
Ultimately, we do appreciate the company’s willingness to rectify the situation after the fact, including refunding Piedras Rojas and offering the geysers tour at no cost (again through another operator). However, the situation should not have occurred in the first place, nor should customers need to advocate for fair treatment after significant inconvenience.
Of the five tours we booked, one was moved to another operator two hours before departure with a partial refund, one was cancelled on the morning of departure, and a third had to be cancelled as a knock-on effect. This meant that three of the five tours we paid for were affected by organisational or communication issues.
I will add though that the tours we were able to do were good, and the guides themselves were very friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable, particularly the geysers tour (operated through Horizonte) and Laguna Cejar (operated through Atacama Connection). This review is not directed toward the tour guides. However, for a destination where early starts and tight schedules are the norm, reliability and communication are essential — and unfortunately, Atacama Connection did not meet that standard.
Update: The company contacted us privately and acknowledged their error, offering a voucher.

We had an excellent experience with Cristian from Atacama Connection on our tour to the Lagunas del Altiplano and Laguna Chaxa. Cristian is knowledgeable, kind, and truly passionate about the Atacama region. His explanations about the landscapes, wildlife, and local culture added real depth to the day.One of the highlights was the outdoor breakfast with a stunning desert view — calm, beautifully arranged, and perfectly timed before reaching higher altitude. It made the morning feel special and set the tone for the rest of the .The itinerary was well paced, the vehicle comfortable, and every stop thoughtfully chosen.
