Wow!! One of our favorite days in Portugal! The host António was so hospitable and knowledgeable! We learned so much about the Douro valley region and agriculture! We took a beautiful hike through the vineyards and he showed us his families vineyard. We tried some fresh fruits and nuts on the hike too! He gave us a tour of his home and gave us the most delicious honeycomb and cookies! Even gave us a honey gift to take home. Then we had port made by his family. Also we dined at this incredible local restaurant and had more wine! Then finished the tour at a nice winery with incredible views!

Antonio was superb!!! This was our second tour with him and the experience was better than the first! Amazing views, amazing tour and experience seeing the Duoro valley from the higher elevations made the experience memorable. António and his wife, Sylvia, are tremendous people and their love for their culture is evident through their knowledge and passion for sharing the Portuguese heritage. Highly recommend doing the lunch. It’s by far the best meal we’ve had on our trips… Can’t wait to visit António again

MADEIRA Passamos 5 dias na Madeira com a orientação de Antonio. Esta foi nossa segunda viagem com eles. Não hesitamos em fazer outra viagem com Antonio como o primeiro no vale do Douro foi tão memorável. Sendo um nativo da Madeira, Antonio está melhor posicionado para apresentar a ilha aos seus hóspedes em todos os aspectos. Caminhamos em diferentes levadas, fomos a pequenas aldeias para comer excelente comida local e tive vinho e bebidas locais (poncha) degustação em vários lugares. Choosing Douro Walks and meeting Silvia, Antonio and their family was the highlight of our trip to Portugal. They were so welcoming, friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable. They put together two amazing experiences with all transport provided to and from our accommodation. The first was the Farmhouse Cooking Course which was a great introduction to Portuguese food. With the guidance of Silvia, we helped prepare a traditional lunch consisting of food, wine, and port. The food was locally grown and produced, and the wine and port were produced by their family It was fabulous not only tasting this wonderful food, but also learning about the ingredients and their traditional methods of growing and making it. The second experience was the next day with a 15km hike through the hills, vineyard terraces, and olive groves, starting from Sabrosa, a village in the hills, to Pinhao. This was much more than just a hike; it was a fully immersive experience with Antonio leading the way and giving us insights and information about every aspect of the area. We were welcomed by the owner of a local restaurant in Provesende where we had a wonderful traditional lunch with local wine before continuing our hike to finish in Pinhao. These two experiences were exceptional. Antonio and Silvia were just the nicest people and went the extra mile to make us feel special. Thank you for sharing your passion and your country with us in such a personal way. We would certainly recommend Douro Walks to everyone. Paul and Jeannie New Zealand

Maravilhosa caminhada de 15 km no vale do Douro Fizemos a caminhada de 15 km, que foi simplesmente maravilhosa. Você consegue ver tanto enquanto caminha e o guia era excelente e conhecedor. Caminhamos pelas pequenas aldeias, pelas colinas e vales e chegamos a ver tanto. Uma ótima maneira de ver o Vale do Douro. A caminhada requer alguma aptidão e bom para começar cedo quando é mais frio, principalmente descida embora alguns pedaços de montanha. Nós realmente apreciamos o dia.

What an incredibly immersive cultural experience with Sylvia and Antonio! Though we only booked the cooking class, António greeted us and took us for a short walk to tour their wine cellar, and enjoy some tastings of their lovely family port straight from the barrel. Spending the afternoon cooking with (and learning from) Sylvia was a special memory that we will never forget. The doors were open with church bells ringing from the village below as we learned the local ways of preparing food from her. There is no chance of leaving there hungry! Cooking-wine-conversation… repeat! They made us feel so included in their everyday lives, as well as their family history. Highly recommend!!!!

The Ervedosa hike is a special and unique way to experience the real Douro from some true locals in Antonio and Silvia who live it everyday and found a way to let us in to that life - even if only for a day. So much more than we could have expected - the scenery, the education about the valley and its evolution and the open look in to the life of a small vineyard operator.

Don't hesitate to book with Duoro Walks - this was one of our favorite days of the trip and we were honestly sad when it was over. We did the Ervedosa walk & lunch and Antonio picked us up and took us all around the village and vineyards. He's super knowledgeable about Portugal, the Duoro Valley, fruits, vegetables, and of course wine (and tons of other subjects) and is very easy and fun to talk to. We had an amazing lunch with him and his wife Sylvia to end the tour, the food and wine were phenomenal and both of them were great company to eat with. We'll absolutely book another tour with Antonio & Sylvia next time we visit.

Superbe demi journée de randonnée privée dans la vallée du Douro avec dégustation locale. Antonio notre guide est un passionné et une super personne. Tout fut super et sympa. La randonnée de 2h15 au milieu des vignes dans la vallée du Douro au départ de son village. Très agréable demi journée ensoleillée avec visite de sa maison et un déjeuner chez lui avec une belle expérience avec du Porto local et du vin maison, le tout avec une superbe dégustation de produits locaux préparés par son épouse. ce fut juste super. Un grand merci.

My mom and I booked the hike with Antonio from Provesende down to Pinhão and it was a highlight of our trip to the Duoro Valley and Portugal overall. Antonio taught us about the small towns, houses, plants, and general history of the areas we walked through, sharing his rich knowledge of the region and his own family’s life within it. The picnic at the end was the delightful and unique cherry on top of the experience. I wish I could drink that lemonade with homemade honey every day! Thank you Antonio for a great experience — we highly recommend this to anyone visiting the Duoro Valley that’s looking for an active sightseeing adventure (though be aware that the hike down can be a bit steep at times!).

We were very happy to experience a wine tour with Douro Walks, which was an unforgettable experience that blended stunning landscapes, delicious wines, warm hospitality, and truly memorable food. We visited three distinct wine estates, each with its own unique charm and character. The choice of estates was spot-on — thoughtfully chosen and wonderfully complementary across the three visits. Each estate brought something different. Tasting the wines felt like a journey through Portugal’s winemaking heritage. Antonio, our guide, was fantastic. He was genuine, knowledgeable, and incredibly kind. He answered every question with patience and detail. He really went above and beyond to make sure everyone had a great time. And then — the food! What a treat. Both lunch and supper were lovingly prepared by Antonio’s wife, and we were blown away. Every dish was rich in flavor and deeply authentic. You could taste the care and tradition in every bite. Every plate was a discovery. Sharing these meals gave us a real taste of Portugal, both in flavor and in culture. One of the most special parts of the day was getting to meet Antonio and his wife. They welcomed us like family, and our conversations with them added a personal, heartfelt touch to the whole experience. If you are looking for one experience that will make your vacation a special and memorable one, we highly recommend having guided tours with "Douro Walks" We just had a 2 day tour with Antonio and Sylvia. It was a wonderful experience, I would write without no hesitation: the best local guided tours we ever had. Antonio is truly a fountain of knowledge and stimulating information about the Douro region, its people, traditional characteristics, and most of all: authentic stories about the people and their daily life. We drove to various places - some of them were a surprise.  We walked in fields, vineyards, and trails, we met and talked with local farmers. We had a very enjoyable cooking class with Sylvia, we got a one time opportunity to experience a beautiful culture through stories, meeting locals, great food, wine and Port. Antonio is a philosopher in his formal education, and his partner Sylvia is an English literature graduate. What a great background for interesting talks. We had a great time receiving much more than expected. We are very thankful and looking forward to visiting Antonio and Sylvia again. With great pleasure, we recommend having a tour with "Douro Walks".

E se você quiser ver outra perspectiva no vale, tome pelo menos um pequeno passeio de barco (fizemos um cruzeiro de 2 horas de Pinhao, e foi um prazer) para que você possa ver a paisagem da água. Mas se você quer entender a própria terra, as vinhas, as plantas extraordinárias que produzem as uvas que são transformadas nesse vinho que você ama tanto, e acima de tudo os seres humanos que fizeram deste lugar seu lar e meio de subsistência, dê um passeio pela aldeia e vinhedos de Ervedosa com Antonio Henriques. É um passeio fácil, com paradas frequentes e feito ao seu ritmo, e o que você aprenderá sobre a terra, as pessoas, a história e os produtos do lugar irá enriquecer sua experiência do Vale do Douro mais do que qualquer outra coisa que você possa fazer enquanto estiver lá. Today my husband and I did the Pinhão hiking tour with António. He was at the train station to warmly welcome us and we left from there to start our hike up to the incredible lookout over the river valley. Along the way we stopped at various sites that illustrated the history of winemaking in this area. There were so many things highlighted that we would have never appreciated the significance of without his detailed descriptions. We also learned a great deal about many trees and plants we came across that gave us a much better understanding of this region. At the end of our hike we enjoyed a delicious picnic lunch prepared by members of António’s family that was the best food and drink that we have had while in Portugal! We only wish we had more days so we could do additional tours with António. He clearly loves what he does and it shows! Thank you for making this such a memorable experience. We will be sure to tell our friends!
