This place is a hidden gem and will be my opticians going forward after an initial enquiry for just sunglasses!!!
To give context to my review, I reached out to them via WhatsApp on 19 July 2026 regarding a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses. I received a response the same day and whilst they didn’t have the pair I wanted in stock, I arranged to go on 25 July 2026 to have a look at the selection they had as I was impressed with the communication and offer to order the ones I wanted if they didn’t have an alternate design I liked.
I was able to pop in on 22 July 2026 and met the author of the messages: Holly. What an absolute star! She was so accommodating, knowledgeable, and told me she’d ordered the ones I’d enquired about but wanted to surprise me on 25 July! This level of this exceptional customer service is not what you get in mainstream opticians!
Whilst they had a great selection on offer in store, my heart was set on the Pehu design and so I said I’d wait until 25 July, but fortunately for me, they arrived on 24 July and I was able to collect and get them fitted the same day!
Within 5 days of a general enquiry via WhatsApp, I now had the exact sunglasses I initially enquired about, with more knowledge about the brand, and other services offered by Brittain Opticians.
Throughout it all, Holly went above and beyond to provide exceptional service, and this will now be my go to for all future optician appointments and sunglasses purchases. In fact, my partner is sending me back to get him cleaning fluid for his Maui Jim’s!
You will not be disappointed if you go here!

Kind and Helpful
My 4 year old wears glasses and to be fair to him, he looks after them very well….most of the time.
He managed to break them on Friday loosing the screw in the process.
We stopped in at Brittain’s pieces in hand asking for help and they couldn’t have been more kind.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone!!

Been going to this opticians for over 26 years . And honestly the service you provide is amazing.
Matt ( the main guy) who examines eyes does a very good job . Never rushes the appointment at all.
Alongside the other staff that work there , all very nice, kind , friendly and always happy to help.
I’ve always needed my glasses adjusted and they were always very helpful to do this for me .
I highly recommend this opticians as it provides excellent quality care for patients .

What a refreshing change to have some real customer service after going to other outlets who don’t listen and want you in and out as quickly as possible.
I had a very comprehensive eye examination with Matt who really took the time to explain everything clearly to make sure I got what I needed.
I must say all the staff there are incredibly friendly and never rush you into a decision, this is a very professional team who really look after you.
I ordered two pairs and they were ready in a week with great seiko lenses.
Highly recommended.

What a lovely opticians. Breath of fresh air after the ‘spec savers’ experience. Personable, knowledgeable and friendly staff. Relaxed atmosphere and thorough eye test. Large choice of frames and a speedy service. Would definitely recommend
