The Legal Advisor to the Public Defender's Office, contacted me about needind a certified translation of my divorce in Portuguese. Time was off the essence! I asked AI to recommend the best online translation services. It claimed that TripleTrad was by far the best service, and Roxo Translations a close runner-up. There was a third one whose name escapes me now.
I first contacted TripleTrad via their website, and I did not care about being asked as to my time frame without knowing their offers first. You see in my mind, they could very well deliver the translation in 48hrs, with no extra fee, as Roxo first proposed to me. In other words, 48hrs was not considered "urgent", but standard, as far as Roxo was concerned.
In fact, I had not even checked Roxo's website where the fee per page---89 Reais---was clearly indicated on the homepage. This level of transparency and a quick and friendly response pattern---I received a straightforward estimate in less than 15 minutes---led me to choose Roxo without waiting for the other two services to send me estimates. Roxo did translate and deliver the document within the promised two days time, for 178 Reais.
Six to seven hours later on that same day , I get a long email from TripleTrad. First and foremost, TripleTrad had decided that I required an American Apostille on my divorce certificate for use in Brazil, arguing that before the certified translation, the Apostille would validate this document in the eyes of the Brazilian Justice system. There was no way around it: a certified translation was not enough. To assume such, in order to sell me a 110 dollars' Apostille translation, is a questionable practice in my book. Further, my trial is actually about to conclude, and the Legal Advisor to the Public Defender's Office thought it would not be a bad idea to have a certified translation of my divorce---just in case.
Then comes the second paragraph:TripleTrad let me know that the Apostille process would need 1 or 2 days, and during this time, we could move forward with the translation that would cost me 190 Reais per page---note that this translation service is quoted in Reais. The translation itself would require two to four business days.
What if I had asked TripleTrad for an urgent delivery?!
