The best Puerto Rican food I’ve ever had. I’m Puerto Rican and I’ve been to Puerto Rico many times. This food is identical to the food that my mother cooks. It’s so delicious this Is real authentic Puerto Rican food.

Great food
I feel am in Puerto Rico....
One of my favorite places home away from home
Everything was AMAZING!!!
Delicious Puerto Rican food. Prices are great and inside is decorated so cute. Great place to come to alone, with a friend, or your family. Orgullosa de ser puertorriqueña 🇵🇷 ¡¡Wepa!!!
I brought my lunch group of 11 here and the staff and owners were absolutely delightful. We had a few folks very familiar with Puerto Rican food, and it got a bit thumbs up from them. For those who were new to the cuisine, the staff explained all the items thoroughly so that everyone was able to find something to their liking on the menu. This will definitely be placed on the groups repeat list!
This is super cute local Puerto Rican spot, the food was super good, they had several options available and combos as well, will definitely be visiting them very soon!! They did not disappoint!

Elsie, thank you so much! We’re so glad you found us and that the food did not disappoint.
We’ve built this little spot with a lot of love over the years, hoping it feels like a home away from home for our Puerto Rican family and anyone who loves good comida. Hearing that you found us cute, local, and worth coming back to means a lot.

I am Puertorrican and I went to this restaurant with high expectations to support my people. Unfortunately, the service was horrible. I was there sitting for a long time waiting to be served and no one came, I got up and left without even trying the food. I believe that they do not represent the warmth and service of the people in my beautiful island of Puerto Rico. And I should clarify that I was born and raised in Puerto Rico.

Hi G, thank you for wanting to support a Puerto Rican business and for taking the time to share your experience. We are sorry your visit ended without a plate on the table.
Here's what we think happened. Phoenix Coqui is a quick-serve restaurant. You order at the counter, take a seat, and we bring the food to your table. We do not have servers, so if you sat down before ordering, our team would not have known you were waiting to be served.
We have a lit ORDER HERE sign at the counter and another printed sign at the entrance with the three steps: (1. Order, 2. Sit 3. Enjoy) and we will keep working to make it impossible to miss. We would have loved to serve you, and if you are ever unsure, ask any one of us. We are here to help.
On representing Puerto Rico, that matters enormously to us. Juan, our co-owner and chef, was born and raised in Toa Alta, and the recipes we serve are his family's. We do not claim to speak for all of Puerto Rico or to recreate every family's memories. We cook the food we know, with pride and with respect.
We will gladly keep this one star if it means the next guest walks in knowing exactly how we work. Clear expectations are worth more to us than a rating.
Our door stays open, and we would still love the chance to feed you.

I loved everything about this restaurant. This was a first time and a lasting impression. Being from Brooklyn, NY, it gave me the hometown feel. I loved the pernil, rice and grandules, fried plaintain, yuca, and extra red beans and the empanadas. Great service although we took it to go. I will definitely be back.

My boyfriend and i absolutely love coming to this place! Their empanadas are absolutely delicious, and that seasoned rice? I always get me a large side of it! The atmosphere is always very welcoming and cozy. The employees are always so nice and always helpful if you have any questions. Definitely recommend to all my friends and family if they want a taste of Puerto Rico!

While driving around Phoenix’s Melrose District, we happened upon this hole-in-the-wall gem. As native Chicagoans, we grew up with amazing Puerto Rican cuisine. So we were so excited to find Coquí. We enjoyed the empanadas (perfectly crispy with mushroom being our absolute favorite), shrimp with arroz con gandules (a garlic lovers delight and some of the best rice we’ve had), and a jobarito sandwich (which they were willing to make with chicken instead of pork). Everything was made fresh to order and full of authentic Boricua flavor. It was a hot day and the waitress brought us all free bottles of water. Little did I know that this business is also gay-owned. So happy to support such a business and enjoy delicious cuisine.

Ricky, thank you so much for the amazing 5-star review! Coming from Chicagoans that means everything. The jibarito was born in your city, so getting your blessing on ours is high praise. And happy to swap in chicken any day. We’re especially happy the mushroom empanadilla and arroz con gandules hit the spot!
Thank you for noticing the little things too, like the water on a hot Phoenix day. That’s the kind of hospitality we want everyone to feel when they walk through our doors.
So glad you found us, and even more glad you enjoyed the comida. Gracias por supporting our little Boricua, LGBTQ+-owned spot!
