I spent 5 days with Palma Sea School in Mallorca for the RYA Day Skipper course and came away really impressed. The days on the water were a highlight, the boat was roomy and well kept. Our skipper, Bali, was an excellent teacher, patient and clear, and I picked up far more than I expected. Don't mistake this for a casual holiday sail: the course is structured and demanding, and by the end I felt ready to handle a sailboat safely. I left with great memories and skills I'll actually use. Highly recommended!

I have just returned from a truly superb experience with Palma Sea School, culminating in successfully completing RYA Yachtmaster Offshore.
Right from the booking process, the wonderful Jo was advising and looking after my planning so that I made the most of my time ahead of the exam.
I thought my boat handling skills would benefit from some extra tuition, in addition to the Yachtmaster prep week. I signed up for the RYA Day Skipper course, living on board “Millie”, a well-behaved Bavaria 46 in great condition, which was to be the exam boat.
Bali Doczy our instructor was top-notch and gave such clear and simple guidance that by the end of the week, my ability to handle that boat and to understand its behaviour under a variety of wind conditions was much improved! Bali was also a lot of fun, and a very interesting person – ask him about Lego!
Next was the prep week in advance of the Yachtmaster exam. John O’Hara our
instructor is a Yachtmaster Examiner himself. He spent the week drawing out all our weaknesses and going to a lot of effort to make sure we were all as well prepared for the exam as possible – navigation, collision regs, weather, man overboard skills, boat handling skills, sailing skills and general seamanship. Everything he said was clearly
explained, relevant, meaningful and positive.
The exam itself was intense, but also enjoyable. Our examiner not only grilled us on the syllabus content but used some of the time to add to our knowledge on a variety of marine topics. It was really interesting, and diffused the stress levels well!

Absolutely brilliant Day Skipper course. Balázs was knowledgeable, patient and very good at pushing us just far enough out of our comfort zone to make sure we were genuinely prepared and confident by the end. Clear instruction, good humour, and plenty of hands-on sailing. Highly recommended.

I had a fantastic experience with Palma Sea School, completing the two-week course, including the practical training and final assessment.
A special thank you to John, who was an excellent instructor. He was extremely knowledgeable, patient and encouraging throughout the course. His practical approach and the way he explained things made everything much easier to understand, and I came away feeling much more confident and prepared.
I also want to thank Jo for all the administrative support. She was always helpful, responsive and made sure everything was organised smoothly from start to finish.
And thank you to Margaret, our assessor, for making the assessment professional, fair and supportive. Her approach helped create a positive environment while still maintaining a high standard.
Overall, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The combination of great teaching, practical experience and a very supportive team made the two weeks both enjoyable and valuable.
I would highly recommend Palma Sea School to anyone looking for high-quality, professional maritime training. A big thank you to John, Jo, Margaret. It was a privilege meeting you ⚓️🌊

Baly and Jo were great. Extensive opportunity to practice sailing, manouvering in and out of harbor in different angles and situations. Sail trimming and safety across all situations. Included a 4h night sailing and sleeping at anchor one night as well!

I had a great week doing the Day Skipper course on Millie. The boat was well set up for us, and very comfortable to also stay onboard. The quality of the instruction from Bali was fantastic. He understood how much or how little instruction I needed at every point of the week and seamlessly tailored the course for each participant, even though there was varying levels of experience. I came away learning a huge amount and met some lovely people! I would highly recommend this school. The winds consistently picking up in the afternoon gave us great conditions to cover all of the course content in 5 days.
