Avoid at all cost
I hired this trader in November 2025 to repair a washing machine. I paid £70 cash upfront for the labour. The repair was never completed.
After the initial visit, I was given weeks of excuses regarding 'delayed parts' and broken appointments. When I eventually cancelled the job due to the delays, James agreed in writing to provide a refund. He has repeatedly failed to pay this back, claiming that his business 'does not have internet banking' and can only return cash, yet he never shows up to drop it off.
I am now effectively out of pocket for the service and the time wasted. I have been left with no choice but to report this to Trading Standards and file a claim in the Small Claims Court to recover my money.
Looking at previous reviews, it appears I am not the only customer who has had this experience. I strongly urge you to avoid this company and definitely do not pay cash upfront.

Once he has your cash he refuses to return
Contacted James in September and it took him three weeks to turn up in early October. Having deliberately cut through a power cable that required me to get an electrician in to fix. He then wanted to charge me £500 for a replacement part that I found on line for £160 and available for delivery within 24 hours. We agreed he would come back and fit the part. It is now December and he has provided excuse after excuse as to why he will not come back and refuses to give me my money back as well always promising it will be fixed this week. Very frustrating and I would walk away if I had not already paid for the service and part I am not getting!

Our journey started badly and we had a waiting game for our new oven. What should have been a quick fix took over a week. James explained the oven was damaged when he collected it and has replaced with a more expensive one.
The oven is now in and fitter albeit not fully due to a gas pipe behind it. This is not a reflection on James as he isn’t responsible for moving the gas pipe. In the end job done, and sorted
Paid £80 upfront in July for a minor washing machine repair that was never done. After continuous chasing I requested and was promised a refund “in a few days” several times — every deadline was broken. Then I was suddenly told he has had no access to online banking “for a while” despite taking electronic payments for his business and having promised 3 times he would refund in a few days.
I see a pattern in his negative public reviews and also notice a flurry of new positive reviews appearing after the negative ones, and his replies accusing unhappy customers of lying and insisting he’s “an honest person.” My experience has been the opposite: months of excuses, no completed job, and no refund.
The matter is now in the hands of my bank who have all correspondence. Based on my experience, I strongly advise avoiding this company.
Update:
After I posted this review, James came to my property unannounced and refunded the money in cash (despite me clearly stating I wanted an electronic refund so there would be a proper record).
The refund doesn’t change the fact that the entire experience was unacceptable.
I had an issue with my dishwasher , Jamie suspected it was the heater, on inspection the issue didn’t arise again, he was really nice about it and said to give him a call straight away if it happened again, what a nice man!
Would definitely recommend!

Couldn’t recommend James enough! Called on Monday afternoon as my fridge had packed up! James was there on Thursday with a new fridge, no hassle taking away my old one and installed my new one with ease. Lovely gentleman

I have now had 2 local people contact me telling me they have had the same lies from James
Damaged my oven just to change a lightbulb and took months to come back with the new bulb
It seems he gives all his disgruntled customers the same excuses

I spoke to James about a problem with my AEG washing machine - he was incredibly helpful and talked me through what was going on and recommended I go ahead with letting AEG replace it, saving me paying for him to come out. Really grateful for his help and advice!

We had a problem with our washing machine. James said it was not worth fixing. He was very honest and knowledgeable. He took £36 off the call out charge because the machine was not repairable. He then provided a new washing machine, fitted it and took the broken washing machine away. Very reasonably priced. Reliable, professional and friendly and saved me the hassle of shopping for a new washer! We would definitely recommend. Thank you James from the Jacksons Berkhamsted
