Visited Portsmouth with the aim to also visit the Isle of Wight for the first time in my life as well. Was going to look at Wightlink, but with YouTube channels Steve Marsh and Planes, Trains, Everything showcasing the hovercraft, decided to cross both ways with Hover Travel. Paid £34 for a return crossing and boy was the crossing fast, just over 10 mins for the crossing. Staff at both terminals and on board the hovercraft were friendly. The crossing was pretty smooth with a little bumpiness felt. At each end, both connect to excellent public transport just outside the terminal, this made getting to Newport so simple on the IOW.

The hovercraft ride itself was pleasant, smooth and surprisingly swift, but unfortunately, the experience at the terminal was very disappointing. We were delayed by over two hours without any prior communication, leaving us frustrated and uncertain about what was happening. To make matters worse, some of the staff were rude and unnecessarily sassy when interacting with passengers. The terminal itself also wasn’t particularly clean. Overall, it was a very unpleasant experience, and the lack of communication and poor customer service really let things down. The journey itself was the only real positive.

My first time on a Hovercraft. Foot passengers only, but they do take luggage and pushbikes. Very well organised. A Very smooth ride, as the sea was quite calm. Takes only 10 minutes. Some people commented it was expensive. It was £15 per journey, as I booked in advance. Got back a little early for the return journey later on that day, but were able to return on an earlier flight. Perhaps my only negative observation, was that the waiting rooms were quite small, and a lot of people had to stand while they waited to the Hovercraft to arrive. Other than the I would highly recommend this quick way to get to the Isle of Wight and back to the Main Land.

Yet again 15 minute (minimum) delay on the hover and nothing on the hovertravel website. When queried met with the same answer as always. Staff shortages. Can do better am sure.
