Couldnt give this enough stars. Was worried about getting back into football after 20 (ok 25 years) after last playing, worried about making a complete boob of myself. What a truly amazing group of people, truly welcoming, supportive and even when making a complete hash of it, it doesnt matter. If in doubt, dont be. Come and see for yourself
Joined the group of lads a couple of months ago now after my circle of friends become disinterested in playing football due to other commitments. Not knowing where to turn for a knock about I was made aware of this group, I now go at least once a week sometimes twice for a friendly knock around with people all over the city and Cheshire. It’s been great to get to know new friends and to stay active and feel better health wise.
The WhatsApp groups are great fun and members regularly reach out for non football get togethers, the whole thing is really well run and everyone is really pleasant and welcoming. Really glad I joined thank you 🙏
Would be lost without Wednesday night football in Shav. Was one of the first few to sign up. There are lots of people with varying abilities. I've never really played any group football before (it shows) but nobody minds if I pass the ball to the invisible man on more than one occasion. There's a bit of friendly banter but that's it. Everyone made welcome and the optional social meetups are an added bonus. Have made some good friends through it. If you are unsure about turning up... just do it. You won't regret.
A great way for those of us who thought we were too old (56) to play footy anymore to still have a run out. Turning up the first time, after several years out of the game, and out of shape, I was a little nervous. But the group were welcoming, friendly and encouraging. I'm now a regular player and really enjoy it. If you hate the gym/jogging etc as i do, but used to love football, this is a great way to improve your fitness with a group of like minded guys who just want to enjoy a kick about without any drama. I highly recommend it.
