First of all a huge thanks to everyone who was involved in this project like Josh, Isiah and specifically Ross and his apprentice. They done a fantastic job. We had a total replacement of our Fireplace. I'll definitely make sure to mention Chim Chimney-Hermitage every time I get a chance. I don't normally leave long reviews, but this experience with Chim Chimney merits my comments. In full disclosure let me explain why we called Chim Chimney to start with. We were smelling creosote badly. I had another company come out to clean it. They stated it was "stage 3" (which is serious). They quoted a price to remove it and do some other work, such as a stainless steel flu. We decided to get another opinion, and that's where the relationship with Chim Chimney originated. We ended up spending $14,500 with them. I think I've reserved the right to give my honest opinion of the pros and cons of the work that was done (and not done) to our satisfaction. Pros - the original inspector (Alias) was very professional and courteous, not to mention knowledgeable about his profession. He was clear and precise on what needed to be addressed and honest about what we'd need to spend to get it done properly. It was because of him that we decided to use Chim Chimney. The first 2 techs that came to our house were also knowledgeable and courteous. Everything was going well. Cons - when the job was over, there were 2 issues. One of which, I've still not resolved. We were concerned after the creosote was "removed", we could still hear chunks falling from the flu. Trying to reach someone at Chim Chimney about this was frustrating. I ended up talking to Kirsten, who was VERY difficult to understand on her speaker phone (and she refused to pick up the phone😡) The 2nd issue was the smell of creosote. It's still bad! We were told what WE could do to help eliminate it, but I'm thinking, "didn't we just pay $14,500 to fix this?" So, all this to say, I'm not sure how I feel about my experience with chim chimney. I'd say that I'm very frustrated. They have good people, but dealing with the office itself was extremely frustrating. There was a man that was the "project manager" who knew all the answers to many of my questions. But, for whatever reason, I was NEVER allowed to speak to him. That would have made a huge difference. So, know what you're getting into before you deal with this company. It's a mixed bag at best Here's the list of what we paid to have done... 1. Slab removed off chimney 2. PCR chemical applied to remove creosote 3. After 2 days of PCR eating though creosote, flu was cleaned of both 4. Insulated stainless steel flu was installed 5. New wood burning stove insert was installed 6. New chimney cap was placed on top of chimney. Along with new flashing and crown repair
