Had a great 2 days with Chris this week learning to become a Lowland Leader. Loved the hands on learning approach and story telling style which really made the days memorable. Chris is very encouraging, extremely knowledgeable but also patient. No hesitation in recommending Beyond The Edge.

Chris was engaging and very experienced which resulted in the candidates being open and active in their learning. I have just completed my HML training, and it was spot on. I learned so much in a short space of time, the pace and content was varied and worked well with the varied backgrounds that our group came with. A good balance of practical and classroom learning. I felt really supported throughout, even when the night navigation felt a bit challenging! Thank you for a great course.

BTE, an amazing company and group of people - thank you Completed my Hill & Moorland Leader training, First Aid, NNAS and HML assessment in the first 11 months of this year with Alex, Hati, Oli and Chris. What an amazing experience, lovely people so very knowledgeable and open to sharing their personal experiences and wisdom. I was nervous the whole time, befuddled and sometimes frustrated but they helped settle my nerves and patiently guided me through the syllabus and courses so when it came to the assessment, although very nervous they gave unambiguous feedback, provided the environment and opportunity to relax and demonstrate my learned skills and confidence. What an amazing company and group of people, thank you for an absolutely amazing year. Hmmm - what shall I do next year? Jonathan

Just completed BTE's 2 Day Outdoor First Aid Course in Derbyshire which was run by Chris. I can't recommend this more highly (and have been recommending it to colleagues and contacts). The training, incident scenarios and advice was spot on. Chris delivers a no-nonsense programme very relevant to working and guiding in the outdoors, totally enhanced by his background and experience. 👍

Finally a first aid course which reflects the environments we work in. I work a lot with volunteers and young people in the countryside where accidents are more likely to happen under a hedge or at a farm than in an office, so this was perfect. Chris's knowledge drew on first hand experience as a Mountain Rescuer and Mountaineer. It was great to be on a 1st aid course with other outdoor professionals who contributed their own experiences. Chris even employed fake blood to demonstrate catastrophic bleeding which was a fist for me on a first aid course. There was a lot to take in but all very relevant.

Having previously used BtE for my Climbing Wall Instructor Award, I returned last week for the 16hr Outdoor First Aid and Hill and Moorland Leader Training. Chris, Alex and Oli were all excellent course tutors and created a really welcoming, friendly and informative space. The venue was perfect and nothing was too much for the BtE team or the Sir William hotel team. I would definitely recommend and will definitely be returning for future courses!

Update Sept 2025: After having such a great experience with Hill Skills earlier in the year, I was hooked and booked onto the HML training. It was a wonderful 3 days. Oli and Alex were incredible. Both are highly experienced experts who are personable and excellent teachers. I was part of Oli's group in the hills and the whole group left the weekend very happy, full of new knowledge and excited about the next steps. May 2025: I've just completed an excellent and fun 2 days of Hill Skills. Claire was a fantastic instructor! She was friendly, knowledgable and looked after us well. We all arrived pretty much brand new to navigation and she gently pushed us and ensured we all came away feeling much more confident. Would highly recommend!

I had a great two days doing the Navigation/Hill skills course last week. Would recommend it to anyone ! Hati was the brilliant leader of the course, she was very knowledgeable and taught us well. I recently attended the 2 day Hill Skills course with Beyond The Edge lead by our fantastic trainer Hati. The course was perfect for both those new to navigation and those who want to brush up their skills in map reading, natural navigation, compass use and distance mapping and timing. The course covered the skills which we then put into action by planning a walking route on our second day. Hati made the course fun and engaging and the content was perfect for giving me the confidence to plan walks in my local area and I say this as someone with no internal GPS! Thank you Hati and team for a fantastic couple of days.
