This hidden gem is a coffee lovers gold mine! The owner is so personable and knowledgeable about coffee beans , their origins, the roasting process and gives exceptional samples . We didn't know what to expect having never visited a roaster before. But I had made a resolution to stop being a Starbucks cattle call victim . Berks Beans didn't disappoint. Jesse is the most incredible barista , bean affionado , conisseur of quality beans , incredible pour over coffee Nd conversation. So much fun, we didn't want to leave . Can't wait to go back. We picked up Italian Stallion, Breakfast in Paris, and Bali . Gregg the owner gave me a sample bag of Espresso blend and I made the first perfect latte since buying my Breville during black Friday . Wow! This coffee is the best ! Jesse poured us Honduran coffee which was outstanding and I felt elevated and energetic without the edge that can come with higher caffeinated coffees. Highest recommendation ever! Thanks Gregg! Thank you Jesse .

John, thank you so much for this! It made our whole day. It was a blast having you in, and I love that your first roaster visit ended up with a perfect latte on the new Breville. That's exactly what the Espresso blend is made for. I'll make sure Jesse sees this too, since he'll be thrilled you enjoyed the Honduran. Enjoy the Italian Stallion, Breakfast in Paris and Bali, and come back and tell us which one wins. Welcome to life after the Starbucks line! See you soon. Roger, welcome to the coffee side. We are glad the staff, the pastries, and the drinks all landed on your first visit. Making the switch off energy drinks easy is a fun challenge, and with 50 to 70 coffees on hand at any given time there is plenty to keep it interesting. Next time tell us what you liked about that first cup and we will roast you something fresh to brew at home. See you soon.

Thank you, Lin! You are not the first person to be surprised that a gourmet coffee roaster is hiding in an industrial park on Solano Way. That is half the fun of finding us. We keep 50 to 70 single origin coffees on hand and roast every order fresh in small batches, so there is always something new to try by the cup or to take home as custom roasted whole bean. Thanks for making the trip to Concord, and come back anytime.

Thanks, Carolyn! Glad you had a good time with us. Being Concord's neighborhood coffee roastery is the best job there is, and we try to keep it fun. Next time ask us to roast a single origin fresh for you to take home, or catch one of our weekend pop-ups at the roastery on Solano Way. See you soon.

Berks Beans Coffee is amazing! So many unique coffee options to choose from, all incredibly smooth and delicious. The owner is friendly and helpful, let us smell everything and gave great recommendations. They also carry a fun selection of coffee equipment and gear for sale.
I love that they carry breads and pastries from Wild Yeast Wonders too. They host events with other local organizations, and I'm already looking forward to checking some of those out. Highly recommend!

Jess, thank you! This made our day. Smelling your way through the single origins is the right way to shop for coffee, so we’re glad you took your time with it. Wild Yeast Wonders is a great partner and we love having their breads and pastries in the case. We do keep the brew gear stocked too, so if you ever want help dialing in a pour over or a grinder at home, come find us. Keep an eye on our events calendar because we have more pop-ups and tastings coming up at the Concord roastery. Hope to see you at one!

Stopped in and had a great experience from start to finish. The owner was incredibly friendly and took real time walking me through the options, and there are a lot of options. But the main thing: the coffee was amazing. Genuinely one of the best cups I've had in a while. He's also opening a tasting room soon, which I'm already looking forward to. Worth the trip, and I'll be back.

Thanks so much, Jas! We love walking people through the beans and roast levels it is honestly the best part of the day, so I'm glad you got the full rundown. Everything here is small batch and roasted to order at our Concord roastery, which is a big part of why that cup tasted the way it did. The tasting room is coming along and I'll be posting updates as we get closer, so keep an eye out and we will have tea as well.... Thanks again for making the trip out to Solano Way, and we'll see you next time. Cheers! - Greg & The Bean Team

Thanks so much, Johnathan! Selection is kind of our whole thing. We keep a deep lineup of single origins and blends on hand at the Concord roastery and roast every order fresh, so what you took home was green coffee just a few days earlier. Really glad the team could help you land on something you'll actually enjoy drinking. Come see us again soon at the Roastery at 1717 Solano Way and next time ask us to pull something you'd never normally pick. That's how most of our regulars found their favorite. See you soon. - The Bean Team at Berk's Beans Coffee

If you enjoy coffee, you have to visit Berk's Beans! Whether you want to learn more about coffee beans, or are already a coffee nerd, this is the place for you.
Their default coffee is a pour over (and you get a free one with each bag of beans you purchase). It's in a business park, so there is lots of parking but not a lot of signage from the street. They have a lot of information on different coffees and coffee tasting in the shop and online. Their online roasted coffee catalog online is truly overwhelming - because you can order any and they will roast it fresh for you, within 1-2 days - but the available beans in the shop are more limited and rotate each day. If you order beans online, you can even specify what roast level/temperature you want! If you stop by in person, the staff is happy to chat and answer any questions you have. My one suggestion would be to offer more light roasts (if you look at the catalog, many are light-medium) for the truly funky-fruity aficionados.

Ria, this made our day. Thanks for the write up.
You called out the tricky part: we're tucked in a Concord business park, so look for 1717 Solano Way, Unit 12, and you'll see the roaster through the rollup door. Easy parking once you find us. The shelf beans rotate daily, but the full catalog is online where you pick the bean and the roast level and we roast it fresh to order.
Good call on the light roasts. We'll work on keeping more of the fruity naturals on the shelf. Next pour over is on us - just come by an let we got ya, just remind us when you are in next - Cheers, The Bean Team

That's exactly why we do this. Every batch gets roasted to order in small amounts right here on Solano Way in Concord, we never really know it lands until someone tells us. I'll pass this along to the crew too. We love talking coffee, so ask us anything next time you're in.
Hope to see you back again soon. Thanks for supporting our small family business. - Cheers, Greg & The Bean Team

Berks has got to be the top spot in the Bay Area. Greg and his team roast in house right in front of you. They share all their knowledge about good coffee and how to make it. A hidden gem you could pass by everyday and not know it’s tucked away back there. 10/10.

Ryan, thank you! That means a lot coming from someone who clearly knows good coffee. You are right that we are easy to miss, so thanks for helping other Bay Area coffee lovers find our little roastery at 1717 Solano Way in Concord. Come see us anytime and we will roast a fresh small batch to order for you. Cheers! - Cheers! Greg & The Bean Team
Berks Beans is such a fun local coffee subscription! We love getting a new variety of interesting, delicious coffees each month, and their customer service is just as great. They’re incredibly responsive and give such personal attention to their customers. Our most recent roast had an incredible essence of green apple—it was unlike anything we’ve ever had before and absolutely delicious. We always look forward to seeing what they send next!

Francesca, thank you so much! We built the coffee subscription so people could explore something new each month instead of drinking the same bag on repeat, so hearing that it's a fun part of your routine really makes our day. That green apple note was a standout for us too. Every batch is roasted to order here in Concord, and finding a coffee that surprises people like that is the best part of the job. Thank you also for the kind words about our team. Personal attention is something we work hard at as a small, family-owned roastery. We already have some interesting ones lined up for you! - Cheers, Greg & The Bean Team

Frankie, thank you so much! Hearing that the coffee subscription is a fun part of your month is exactly what we hoped for when we put it together. Rotating in new and interesting single origins every month is the whole point, so we're glad it's landing. Thank you also for the kind words about our team.
