Clean resort. Could use some additional amenities. 1. We made note of a gluten allergy at every meal. But weren't shown gluten free items until the last day. 2. The rooms could use a microwave and some more plush items. 3. The staff was hit or miss somewhere extremely warm and welcoming and some seemed bothered by our presence. Gate staff + F&B staff - Housekeeping + Spa staff + 4. The spa was phenomenal. 5. The patio was a little dated and could use a detailed eye on a few things like weeding and adding some plants. 6. We realized that this is the off season but you had a full staff working and everyone focused on their specific job while were apparent things that needed to be done.

The Buccaneer was fantastic from beginning to end! We stayed for four to five days and loved the beautiful, expansive property, peaceful atmosphere, and convenient location—approximately 15 minutes from many of St. Croix’s major attractions. A special shout-out to Mr. Clinton, who was always prompt, polite, and dependable with transportation. The staff at The Terrace restaurant were equally exceptional—always smiling, welcoming, and providing great recommendations for food, drinks, and things to do around the island. Mermaid Beach was our favorite—pristine, crystal-clear water, plenty of space to relax, and convenient access to food and drinks. We genuinely have nothing negative to say. Great hospitality, beautiful beaches, peace and quiet, and plenty of Caribbean sunshine to get extra chocolatey! 😂☀️🌴 We would absolutely return to The Buccaneer!

Over price for what you get, very poor experience. Furniture is out dated, the rooms are in great need of updating. They have a mandatory 20% tip on all meals and bar drinks even thou the service is below par and food not that great They have the nerve to expect a tip on breakfast buffet, for what they don't get your food. The two pools are a joke. Not near anything so you need to rent a car or take a taxi. No real entertainment, every shut down around 9:00 pm. Will not return to this resort, if you want to call it that.

It's difficult for me to separate my memories of The Buccaneer from my memories of St. Croix itself. This was my first trip to the island, and I came down for a very special reason: two friends were getting married, and I had been asked to play the bagpipes for their wedding. The Buccaneer became our home base for the weekend and the location of their reception, but it also became the place I returned to after long days and nights exploring St. Croix with my camera. From the moment I arrived, there was a sense that I wasn't simply checking into another hotel. The property is beautiful, but what stood out to me just as much was the atmosphere. The staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful, and that went a long way toward making someone visiting St. Croix for the first time feel comfortable almost immediately. Then there's the setting. The Buccaneer sits on an incredible piece of property overlooking the Caribbean, with rolling green terrain, palms, beaches and historic architecture creating views that almost don't look real at times. As a photographer, I probably spent more time studying the light around the property than a normal guest should. Early morning was particularly beautiful. There is something about stepping outside with a camera while much of the resort is still quiet, watching the first light move across the landscape and Caribbean, that makes you appreciate exactly where you are. The resort also gave me the best of both worlds. I could spend hours driving my Jeep across St. Croix — photographing Point Udall, exploring Christiansted and Frederiksted, hiking toward Ham's Bluff Lighthouse, chasing photographs along the coast or staying out after dark working on astrophotography — and then return to a comfortable resort where I could clean up, grab something to eat and recharge before doing it all again. For this trip, that was perfect. The wedding reception at The Buccaneer made the property even more memorable. Traveling from Tennessee to St. Croix with bagpipes and Highland dress already made this one of the more unusual trips I've taken, but standing at this beautiful Caribbean resort celebrating two friends after having played for their wedding earlier that day is something I'm going to remember for a very long time. One thing I'd recommend to future guests is to actually explore the property. Don't simply walk from your room to the beach and back. Take some time to wander. Look at the views from different parts of the resort. Walk the beach early in the morning. Explore some of the historic character of the property. Watch how dramatically the scenery changes throughout the day as the Caribbean light shifts. And while The Buccaneer is certainly the kind of place where you could spend an entire vacation without going very far, I'd also strongly recommend renting a vehicle and exploring St. Croix. Use the resort as your home base, not your boundary. There is an incredible island waiting beyond the entrance. My days in St. Croix were spent photographing historic buildings, beaches, old ruins, radio astronomy equipment, rugged coastline and some of the most beautiful landscapes I've seen. I stood beneath the stars at Point Udall photographing the night sky and climbed toward an old lighthouse on the opposite end of the island. Then, at the end of those adventures, I came back here. That's probably the best compliment I can give The Buccaneer. It gave me a beautiful place to stay, but it never felt disconnected from the St. Croix experience I had come looking for. When I eventually return to the island — and after this trip, I certainly hope I do — The Buccaneer will be one of the first places I consider staying again.

The Buccaneer is a beautiful property, but unfortunately the service fell well below expectations. More than half of the staff we encountered were inattentive and often made us feel like we were inconveniencing them just by asking a question. Several interactions were dismissive, curt, and unwelcoming, which is especially disappointing when a mandatory 20% gratuity is added to nearly every service. There was also a lack of consistency. We were told men had to wear collared shirts to dinner, yet many guests weren’t. Our dinner reservation was changed, then we were told it was the time we had selected, despite that not being true. We were told the restaurant was fully booked, yet more than half the tables sat empty while we dined. Housekeeping was another letdown. One housekeeper was extremely rude to my wife and daughter, our room wasn’t cleaned despite requests, and we had to ask three times before it was finally done. Breakfast started with our bill being placed on the table before our egg order was even taken, which set the tone for the experience. Food prices were also significantly higher (30-35%) than elsewhere on St. Croix, and after adding a 17% energy surcharge plus a 20% gratuity, the value simply wasn’t there. To the resort’s credit, management did offer us a 10% discount after we shared our concerns, and we appreciate the gesture. However, we never wanted money, we simply wanted the level of hospitality and service that should come with staying at a resort of this caliber. The owners should know that the property is incredible, but many staff members are letting it down. Hospitality should never make guests feel like they’re a burden. We left disappointed, not because of the resort itself, but because of how we were treated.

Premium price tag without premium service or amenities. Unaccommodating is the taste the buccaneer leaves in my mouth. There’s so much natural beauty here that most of the time, you can look past the absolute nonsense of the stay. Upon a very late arrival, we were warmly welcomed by kamal. He was fantastic and made sure we were good to go. After that, I’m just not sure what exactly happened. For us, it felt like road block after road block. It seemed that the staff was more highly regarded than the guest, maybe that’s due to the built in gratuity, they lose the drive to put in much effort. They close restaurants, bars, and rentals when it’s most convenient for the guest to enjoy. They expect the guest to work around their timing on everything including room cleanings (who rush you to be on their timing without informing) and waiting for simple things to be fixed in their room after 3 requests. The kids club, while sounds amazing didn’t work for us because it’s all based on paying their employee, rather than working around the guest schedule. My kids didn’t want to go all day, but that was the only option. Many employees would drive past picking up other employees on the grounds while we trekked our way around trying to find where we were allowed to go at that time. For such a laxed vibe they want to portray, they’re are a lot of rules it feels like you have to follow as a guest. Wear a collared shirt for the men, but it’s not enforced, make a reservation for fire dancing, because they are so busy they bump your time without letting you know, to show up and you & two other tables are the only ones there. This resort is very employee-first focused, but there should be a better balance. We felt like we were usually inconveniencing someone by asking for very basic, normal things. It would be very helpful if someone informed people upon arrival of all the ins and outs of their structure and expectations of the guest.

Perfect honeymoon because of the Buccaneer! A perfect honeymoon! Fine dining, a variety of beautiful beaches, free excellent breakfast buffet, free ocean activity rentals, staff that treats you like family, the Buccaneer has it ALL! My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon in July 2026. When we arrived, they upgraded our room to an ocean view suite because it was our honeymoon! We stayed here for 5 days and enjoyed the restaurants on the property for dinner every night. The food was exquisite. We ate at the Terrace and the Mermaid, and both were some of the best meals we’ve ever had. The service at each place was outstanding. Drinks, appetizers, entrees, and desserts were all balanced and delicious. Both restaurants are walkable from your room, or you can order a complimentary shuttle. The free breakfast buffet at the Terrace was also delightful. It is not your average continental breakfast at a hotel. It is fresh-cooked food kept in warmers with lids. Everything is very clean and cross-contamination was rare. My husband is allergic to seafood, and we had no issues while on the island, despite seafood being served everywhere. The potatoes at breakfast were delicious, and free coffee served promptly with a smile made us feel welcomed. We ate breakfast there every day we stayed and tried something new each day. The beaches! They really have a beach for it all. The Mermaid beach is perfect for relaxing in the sand or swimming out or just drinking and wading. Rent paddle boards or kayaks for free and go crazy in this little protected cove. The Grotto beach is perfect for snorkeling (rented for free from the beach shacks) since there’s some reef right outside the entrance points. We saw lots of cool fish. The Whistle beach was nice and secluded. No one was out there any of the days we went. We found some really cool washed up coral and shells on the beach, but didn’t go into the water much there since it’s mostly rocky at the shoreline. The room was perfect. I cannot begin to express how wonderful our ocean view suite was. The balcony is breezy and perfect for enjoying morning coffee while listening to the waves. The bed was comfortable and made freshly daily for us. The room was swept of sand daily and towels replenished. Staff was discreet and only came in when we weren’t there. We left valuables in the room and everything was untouched. Getting around the resort is easy. There are some hills to trek if you’re into that, but if not, shuttles. There is a nice easy trail around the golf course that leads to the Whistle beach and has a beautiful view if you like to hike. We truly had the best vacation ever because we chose to stay at the Buccaneer. We will be returning soon!

I got a bad sunburn and forgot to bring after sun lotion from home so we asked the front desk if they have any…and they went out and picked leaves off of an aloe plant and brought it up to our room!! The service is amazing, we got offered a complementary drink upon arrival and got an escort to our room. The air conditioning in the bedroom was amazing, but the restaurants are open air so make sure to bring cool clothes. The bar and restaurant were pricey: $20 per alcoholic drink ~$40 an entree but the food was DELICIOUS. Loved the food but had to substitute some meals with some local restaurants (no complaints highly recommend rum runners). Beautiful patio and view and the lobby and room were in pristine condition. I’d love to come back here

A Five-Star Experience A Five-Star Experience I had the pleasure of staying at The Buccaneer for two nights after being relocated from another property, and it completely turned my trip around. From the moment I stepped out of the taxi, I was welcomed with genuine warmth and exceptional hospitality. The property is beautiful, impeccably maintained, and the service was outstanding from beginning to end. It truly exemplifies the level of service and attention to detail you hope for when staying at a luxury resort. (Buccaneer Resort) A special thank you to Fitzgerald for his warm welcome and friendly transportation around the resort, Elisa in Front Office Operations for making my arrival seamless, and Peter, my taxi driver, whose kindness and local knowledge made getting around St. Croix easy and enjoyable. The Buccaneer exceeded my expectations in every way. It was the perfect ending to my vacation, and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. Highly recommended!
