I brought a group of divers to dive with Scuba Coiba over the course of 6 days & we had a great time! Communication with Herbie was fast & easy, and he set up a great plan for us to dive locally from Santa Catalina as well as spend a few days diving from Simca, a private island.
Diving was lovely! Lots of schools of fish, and our guides (Louis & Cory, who were awesome!) pointed out tons of octopus, giant frogfish, etc. We got lucky to see some mantas one day, along with a very sharky dive with bull sharks & oceanic blacktips.
The crew did an awesome job, too! Special shout-out to Will who noticed that my bcd's dump valve's string had broken and replaced it - that's amazing attention to details.
In a nutshell, dive with these folks - they are excellent! Would absolutely recommend & hope to come back someday soon!

We did a Tour with Cynthia and enjoyed the dives a lot. We did three dives and saw a lot of different underwater animals. All in all a really good experience

Cynthia did a great job! We have seen soooo many different fishes during our three dives around Coiba, including sharks, turtles, lobster and giant fish schools. We felt safe and the equipment was in good condition

Minds blown and hearts full! My husband & I had an incredible experience, nothing short of magical, getting our PADI Open Water Dive certifications with Scuba Coiba in Santa Catalina, Panamá. Cynthia was our guide/instructor, and she was truly the best! Super knowledgeable, gave great instructions that were easy to follow, and always made us feel comfortable in the water. We saw so many varieties of fish, eels, sharks, turtles, rays, coral, the list goes on and on. Each site was so beautiful and fun to explore. Will and our boat captains did a wonderful job making sure we were in the right spots and geared up efficiently. Herbie helped us book the nicest accommodations at Bambuda, which we thoroughly enjoyed as well. Overall, we feel so lucky and grateful for this intro to diving, and now we’re hooked! Everything was seamless and we highly recommend Scuba Coiba!

I Dove with Herbie’s team led by Cory and Cynthia at Scuba Coiba for three days and they were excellent. I’ve got 15 years of dive experience, and these guys stood out. On-time, small/personal boat and group size, dialed-in operations, had a keen eye for spotting wildlife, and really impressive at handling mixed-experience groups—they keep advanced divers engaged and also responded well to some more stressful situations that we had come up in our group. Solid crew, well run, and absolutely worth diving with. Whether you are newly certified, or have a hundred dive or more of dives under your belt, you’re in good hands with these guys.

Scuba Coiba
My husband and I received our advanced open water and nitrox certifications from Scuba Coiba in Santa Catalina. In advance of our trip, the communications were good between me and Herbie the owner. Cory was our very capable and experienced Divemaster who did a great job for us. She explained the dive sites in advance, where we were going, what to expect, etc. Cory was very attuned to the people under her supervision, a couple of whom hadn't dived for years and had a few minutes of struggling.
I also want to give a special shout out to WILL, who was a workhorse on the boat doing most of the hard work with lots of heavy tanks and helping us get into and out of our gear. Captain Kenny also did a good job and was helpful.
The dive shop was the most conveniently located of any in Santa Catalina... just a few steps from the beach. We were also very happy with all of the gear provided.
We enjoyed some of the best scuba diving in Coiba National Park. During our first dive of six, we saw more than two dozen sharks (mostly white tipped reef sharks but also a huge nurse shark and a bull shark in the distance). We also saw lots of beautiful schools of fish, eels, a sea snake, a seahorse, rays, barracudas, sea turtles and even a bottlenose dolphin that swam underneath me! What a thrill!
The boat that we used doesn't belong to the dive shop… I believe it is contracted out. With that in mind, my only constructive criticism is that the boat was just too small for the number of people onboard and it was difficult to be able to maneuver in and out of our gear comfortably. Even though there was a smallish tarp overhead, it was inadequate to stop the rain from pelting some of our faces for 40 minutes each afternoon while we were returning to the dive shop. The good news is that a larger boat can be hired to solve this problem.
Finally I would like to remind people that they should TIP their diving guide, the captain and the assistant… all who work very hard to make sure you have a safe and pleasant diving experience. If you can afford to go scuba diving, then you can afford to properly tip someone. Frankly I was shocked and disgusted to see that NO tips given to the staff by anyone but my husband and me (yes Americans are the most generous)...but these other divers didn't dish out a dime before they left.
We would recommend school of Coiba and will use them again in the future.

Regarding the boat: Coiba has a very unique logistical setup. Since there are no piers or docks, all vessels must land directly on the beach to load divers and equipment. Because of this, the only functional option here are local panga-style boats. There are only two slightly longer and wider boats in town fully outfitted for scuba diving (tank racks, safety gear, dive-site-knowledgeable captains, shade roofs, etc.), and we normally operate with them. Unfortunately, they were not available during your dates, and we appreciate your understanding. Your feedback is valuable, and we always do our best to secure the most comfortable boat possible within the limitations of the national park and local infrastructure.
We also appreciate your reminder about tipping. Our team works hard behind the scenes to make every day safe, memorable, and well-organized, and recognition from guests makes a real difference.

My friends and I had a great experience diving for 10 days, the owner Hermi was very friendly and helpful, the guides Luis, Ivan and Laura were fun and knowledgeable about the area and wildlife, they were attentive and chose great locations for breaks and lunch. The assistant Will and the captain made sure we were comfortable. I highly recommend it.

We had an amazing time diving with Scuba Coiba, everyone in the dive shop was friendly and welcoming, especially their lovely dog! Herbie was great to communicate with and responded very quickly to any questions we had, he made the booking process very easy as well. Luis was an incredible guide during our 2 days of diving and made it an unforgettable experience for us. The Captain’s and crew were also great, being very accommodating and even treated us to fresh coconuts on the beach, one of the days during our surface interval. They also made the effort to chase down a pod of dolphins for us since, we’d never seen any which was incredible. We truly appreciate the care and effort from everyone involved. I would highly recommend diving with Scuba Coiba for an unforgettable experience! We will definitely be back :)
