This is hands down the best Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gym I have ever trained at. I have wrestled my entire life and I am currently a brown belt in BJJ, so I have been around a lot of rooms, coaches, and different styles of training. This gym is on another level. Professor Gibson is a black belt and the best coach I have ever had. He holds your feet to the fire, pushes you past your comfort zone, and makes sure you are getting better every single day. He does not let you cut corners, and that is exactly what makes his coaching so valuable. The gym itself is modern, clean, well-designed, and very well kept. You can tell there is pride in the facility, the training, and the culture. The people here are great too. Everyone pushes each other, encourages each other, and helps bring the best out of you. I have trained and been around BJJ gyms in Columbia and the Midlands, and in my opinion, none of them even come close to this gym. The coaching, the atmosphere, the facility, and the people are unmatched. Whether you are brand new, a wrestler looking to transition into Jiu-Jitsu, or an experienced grappler, this is the place to train. The best gym I have ever been a part of.

This place changed my life. I can't exaggerate how much Jiu Jitsu improves you as a person, and this is the place to experience that. Professor Guybson Sa is a 3 time world champion from Brazil. He is the real deal. His father is one of the rare people on earth who earned their red belt in BJJ so he was born and raised in this world. There is no one more qualified to teach BJJ in Columbia, SC.

My daughter is brand new to jujitsu and she was excited and nervous. She has been training at Spartan Academy for a little over a month, twice a week and she loves it and she’s learning so much in a short amount of time. Guybson and Chris really know what they’re doing when it comes to teaching these kids the techniques and keeping them engaged in the class. If there is any time my daughter doesn’t understand something immediately, they are quick to spot it and help her one on one and be sure she gets it before the end of class. I would 10/10 recommend training with SA for your kids.

Spartan Academy Jiu Jitsu is hands-down one of the best BJJ gyms. From the moment you walk in, it is welcoming but serious — perfect mix of friendly and focused. The mats are always clean, the facility is spacious, and they actually have decent air conditioning (a rarity in some gyms!). Professor Guybson and the other coaches are incredibly knowledgeable, patient with beginners, and still push the advanced guys hard. They break down techniques clearly and always emphasize the details that actually make them work. Rolling is competitive but respectful. They have morning, noon, and evening classes pretty much every day, plus open mats on weekends, which makes it easy to fit training into a busy schedule. The community here is legitimately great. The kids programs are solid too if you have little ones. The coaches make it fun but still teach great technique and core values (respect, discipline, never quit). If you live in the area and you’re even mildly curious about jiu jitsu (beginner or experienced), do yourself a favor and drop in. 100% recommend Spartan Academy. SAS! Edit: two years later and I'm still loving this place!
