I recently dropped my MacBook into iBits due to an issue with the trackpad. During the process, I discovered that the MacBook was actually still covered under Apple warranty, so I decided to collect it and take it directly to Apple instead. iBits had already ordered parts for the repair, but they were able to cancel these and return the laptop to me. Unfortunately, when I later took the MacBook to Apple, after already experiencing around one to two weeks of delay which affected my work and resulted in loss of earnings, Apple informed me that components from inside the laptop were missing. Naturally, I contacted iBits immediately to raise my concerns and ask how components could have gone missing while the laptop had been in their possession. The response I received was extremely disappointing. The conversation became argumentative and aggressive, and I was told words to the effect that “these things happen” and that components can go missing. The phone call ultimately ended with the phone being put down on me. For a repair company to acknowledge that components can simply go missing is, in my opinion, completely unacceptable. Regardless of how the components came to be missing, I expected the matter to be handled professionally and investigated properly rather than being met with aggression. I will now be returning the MacBook to iBits so that the missing component can hopefully be replaced and the issue resolved. Based on my experience so far, I would personally be very cautious about leaving a device with iBits. The combination of missing internal components and the way my concerns were handled over the phone has left me extremely disappointed with the service. I also have a recording of the telephone conversation, should there ever be any dispute regarding how the matter was handled.

We’re sorry that you were unhappy with your experience and with how the telephone conversation ended.

The MacBook was originally brought to us with liquid damage, with both the keyboard and trackpad reported as not working. Following our diagnosis, we found that the trackpad was faulty and was also preventing the keyboard from functioning. We explained that the keyboard itself did not need replacing and that replacing the faulty trackpad should restore the keyboard as well.

As you had asked whether the repair cost could be reduced, we first attempted a component-level repair of the existing trackpad rather than replacing it, in an effort to provide a more economical repair.

During that repair attempt, a faulty electronic component on the liquid-damaged trackpad circuit board, approximately the size of a grain of rice, was found to be causing a short and was removed. This is not a separate valuable or reusable MacBook part, it is one of the many small electronic components used in board-level repair work. Leaving a shorting component in place could potentially cause further problems or damage elsewhere in the MacBook.

Unfortunately, the trackpad could not ultimately be repaired, so we advised that it would need replacing. You authorised this and we ordered the replacement for you.

You later contacted us to say that the MacBook might still be covered by Apple warranty and asked to collect it instead. We therefore cancelled the repair and returned the MacBook to you as requested.

When you subsequently contacted us to say that Apple had identified a component missing from the trackpad assembly, we explained that this was related to the component-level repair attempt on the already liquid-damaged and faulty trackpad. We immediately offered to refit the component while you waited.

There was never any intention to dismiss your concern, and we offered an immediate solution when you contacted us.

I was messed around by Pocket Geek Tech Repair in Bournemouth. Brought my console here instead and they did a same day repair for me. Great job. Many thanks.

Wow, superb super fast service. This morning I knocked a mug of tea over my laptop. I didn't really know where to go, i just needed to find a computer repair place as close as possible that was open on Saturdays. The 1st place I found was no longer there and I searched again while running up the road with my laptop and found I was very close to BITS. And they were open. As all of us our lives are on our laptops, mine certainly is. The guys calmed me down, checked the harddrive while I was there. It was OK thank goodness. As long as knew all my files were OK I relaxed. I left the left the laptop with the BITS team for them to check it over, and a few hours later they let me know that it was OK but a few things had been corroded and needed replacing. Thankfully they had it all in house and were confident they could sort it all before they closed today. And happy days, all good and I collected the laptop up before 5pm. Superbly repaired, very quick service, and at a very good price too - I would have been happy to pay more, it was much cheaper than I had expected. I want to say thank you to all the BITS team. your number is saved in my phone now. And to anyone needing good, honest, fast, no nonsense support you will get great service from BITS. Thanks to you all for saving my laptop and 'my life'.

I took my laptop in with a battery I had already purchased and simply asked for it to be fitted. The laptop had no other issues beforehand. After the battery replacement, the computer would no longer turn on. I was then told the motherboard had failed, that it had nothing to do with their work, and that the laptop was effectively a write-off. Wanting a second opinion, I took it to another repair shop who advised it was not a motherboard issue at all and that the problem was related to the battery. It later turned out the battery supplied was the wrong one, which was not their fault or mine. However, as IT professionals, I would have expected that to be identified and explained before fitting it. There should be a duty of care to check compatibility and properly advise customers before carrying out the work. What was most frustrating was how little support was offered afterwards. Once the issue arose, they seemed to want nothing further to do with me or the laptop. I did not find the attitude rude, but it felt dismissive, uninterested, and completely unhelpful when I was trying to resolve the situation. That was disappointing and did not feel like good customer care or professionalism. To be fair, they did not charge me in the end and they reinstalled the original battery free of charge, which I appreciated. The receptionist was lovely, but aside from that I did not find the rest of the experience particularly friendly or helpful overall.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We always welcome feedback, and we believe it's important to provide an honest and transparent account of events for anyone who may be reading.

The battery supplied was the correct model for the device. Although it was a third-party unit provided by the customer rather than an OEM part, we fitted it, confirmed the system powered on correctly, and returned the laptop in full working order.

Within minutes of collection, the customer returned reporting screen distortion and system freezing.

We took this seriously and investigated immediately. During that inspection, we were able to consistently reproduce the fault by applying light pressure to the CPU heatsink area - at which point the system froze and the display showed graphical artefacts.

This is an unambiguous symptom of degraded or cracked solder joints beneath the CPU/processor, a fault that develops gradually over years of thermal stress and repeated heat cycling. It does not appear spontaneously, and it has no mechanical or electrical relationship to a battery replacement whatsoever.

To draw an analogy: it would be like having your brakes serviced and then attributing an unrelated engine fault to the work carried out. The two parts carry out fundamentally different purposes on a car and they are not connected. For this laptop, it's the same case. The processor is the brain of the laptop. All the battery does is provide power.

We understand that receiving a second opinion suggesting otherwise may feel reassuring, but we would respectfully note that correctly diagnosing BGA solder failures requires years of experience in board-level engineering. Most shops do not. A misdiagnosis of this kind, while unfortunately not uncommon in the industry, does not change the technical reality of the fault.

It is also worth noting that any second opinion formed after hearing the customer's account of events is not an independent diagnosis. It is a conclusion reached in the context of a story they were already told. Any reputable shop, free of contextual bias, would see this symptom and immediately be able to tell you that it isn't possible to cause simply by replacing the battery.

We are not in a position to accept responsibility for a hardware fault that was present before the device came to us, and we stand fully behind both the quality of our work and the integrity of our diagnosis. We do genuinely wish the customer the very best in getting the issue resolved.

I recently had my 2017 iMac fail. I put quote requests out none replied, only bits. I was told the price for repairs up front. They fitted a new power supply which got it working but found another fault on the motherboard which they fixed. I was kept informed and had explanation of my repairs. I would recommend them for a first class price and service. Well done to all.

I went to go and get my 12 year old ps3 repaired and wanted it to be repaired as this is the closest place to get it repaired. It’s been over 6 months and no one here has gotten back to us an didn’t say if it couldn’t be repaired etc Hours ago today we went there to ask about it and the place inside is completely deserted. Not very happy about this.

We’re really sorry about this and we understand your frustration.
We’ve relocated to 612 Wimborne Road, Winton, BH9 2EN. The old premises is now closed, which is why it appeared deserted.

Your PS3 was assessed and unfortunately found to be beyond economical repair due to age. We attempted to contact you at the time, but clearly that wasn’t received – and we apologise for the lack of update.
Please send us a message here (or call the shop) with the details/name on the job so we can resolve this immediately and arrange collection/return.
