Joe Czarnecki and his crew at Birchwood Basement Waterproofing did an excellent job in installing a French drain and sump pump in 2018. After years having an exceptionally dry basement, the sudden, heavy rains that caused flooding for many area residents in 2023 caused our drain to block and our sump pump to malfunction.
Joe promptly arrived at our residence, replaced the sump pump, and offered valuable recommendations and personally aided in the removal of water from our basement. He supplied affordable options to address the issue.

Great experience with Birchwood. Joe is very knowledgeable and spends time explaining to you. They did a French drain and revamped two awful simp pits. His crew is absolutely fantastic. Austin, Jim and Bill were amazing. Worked hard, explained everything and clearly take pride in their craft. Couldn’t be happier with the outcome. I highly recommend these guys, they are true pros.
I had a great installation experience with Joe and his team. Joe did a great job of explaining the process, the quote was very fair compared to other quotes I received and the install was done efficiently and cleanly. All around it was a great experience. Now the real test will come the next time we get a large rainfall!

The owner of Birchwood Waterproofing, Joe Czarnecki completed unnecessary work, ruined my floors and left a huge mess. We went to court and he lost. He still hasn’t paid as the Judge order him to. Afterwards I looked up his name and company name and found they have been to court many times since in Luzerne and surrounding counties. Buyer beware… do your research on this company before hiring.
Joe and his team did a great job installing the dump pump s free months ago. Today, because of all the rain, I came home to several inches of water in the basement. Joe did offer to come take a look, but was able to help me trouble shoot the sump pump over the phone. Turns out a breaker had tripped and we didn't realize it. Thankful for his prompt and professional response!
I contacted Birchwood Basement Waterproofing a few months ago. I told them about a problem with water in our laundry room after heavier storms. I was tired of using the Shop vac every time we had a storm like that. The gentleman showed up the next day and gave me a very reasonable price estimate and time frame to start the project. Our problem was with 1 wall. A few days later, the crew of 2 showed up in the morning and were done around lunch time. They cleaned up the mess and left a smooth concrete floor along the wall where they had constructed a channel beneath the floor. GREAT JOB! I no longer have any water issues and highly recommend this company for the personal professional caring touch. Do not hesitate to call them 1st. They are the only call you will need to make. I wrote this review about 3 months after the work and am very pleased.
Sued him in court for the damage and unnecessary work he did to my basement. I won my case and he refuses to pay. Apparently he keeps everything in his wife’s name so that the constable cannot collect. Go to the Lucerne County courthouse website and you will see that Joseph Czarnecki, and Birchwood Waterproofing have MANY cases against them. Unscrupulous contractor… DO NOT HIRE HIM. Judge for yourself by checking Lucerne County court website and yelp. He will damage your property and refuse to correct it or pay. He actually had the audacity to sue me for non payment after he did serious damage to my basement and foundation… but I counter sued and won… now he refuses to pay the court judgement against him. Just hired an attorney and plan to continue to fight. BEWARE of Czarnecki and his company Birchwood… he is a crook.
Had a sump pump dry up and water was coming into basement instead of sump pump. Joe came in and explained what needed to be done and gave price. Then had one of the Big Companies that do the same type of work come in for estimate. They explained basically the same correction with a price 80% higher. Then Joe gave a date when his workers would be here and would give a days notice, everything was just like he said. Now the day of work Bill came to house to complete the job in one day. Did a amazing job explaining the process as it went since I was interested. Was so professional and quality of work was excellent. Clean up was great. Would highly recommend this business to anyone having a basement water problem.
I can’t recommend this company enough! Their price was much less than other heavily advertised basement waterproofing companies. The crew was on-time, maintained a clean area, and performed high-quality work. We can confidently move forward with finishing our basement knowing we will not have water issues.
Joe Czernicki is a very responsible company owner who goes above and beyond for his customers. Had 3 French drains and sump pump installed with excellent, affordable pricing. The workers did a great job with a manager/ supervisor on the job; timely, neat and professional. Joe Czernicki is always available for any ? or needs. My system works great! Dry floors, walls, etc.
The trench and pump work was quite good; however, it didn't fix my problem. When I had both B-Dry and Birchwood in, neither of them tried to help me diagnose the actual problem with a goal of waterproofing, Instead they both pushed the trench and pump. All I really needed was to Dry Lok the cinderblocks, fix my gutters and seal the cracks in the floor. When I called Birchwood back, they finally reccommended doing those other things as well but that should have been the first thing done before the trench and pump.
Great craftmanship though, so IF YOU NEED TO HAVE A TRENCH AND PUMP put in your basement, I highly reccommend them.
