I had a wonderful experience at Awa Braiding Salon! Manise, Roseline, and Misseline did an excellent job, and I couldn’t be happier with the service I received. Their professionalism, attention to detail, and friendly personalities made the entire experience enjoyable. The customer service was outstanding, and everyone was so polite and welcoming. If you’re looking for neat, professional braiding with excellent customer service, I highly recommend Awa Braiding Salon. You won’t be disappointed! I will definitely be returning. ⭐️
The service is amazing!! I got smedium knotless braids. They are lightweight and it only took two hours! Thank you Awa!
I came into the San Diego location on Saturday and I was told $300 any length for the knotless boho.
I told the lady it was my first time and she ended up charging me $460. To top things off, I ALSO paid a $30 deposit. So in total, I paid $490.
I do feel like I was taken advantage of and I won’t be coming back. Doesn’t matter how beautiful my hair came out, it’s the fact of me getting taken advantage of and getting charged $160 more than what was advertised. If it’s not actually $300 any length for the knotless boho, then it shouldn’t be advertised.
This was supposed to be my birthday gift to myself and it was just sad.
I don’t recommend going here.
My daughter got her hair braided at Awa today and I got mine braided 3 weeks ago and when I tell you it was the absolute best experience ever. I will truly never get my hair braided anywhere else! All the girls are so professional, so talented as FAST! I made an appointment but ir isn't necessary as I saw numerous girls walk in and sit straight down. My braids still look beautiful as fresh and im sure I can get at least another 3 weeks out of these box braids. The girls are all really nice and I can't wait for my next style. Prices are fair and they provided the hair. Wonderful experience overall! I highly recommend! The only thing is I wish they always played music! It definitely adds to the vibe.
Got small knotless braids done today and I couldn’t be happier. They are neat and exactly what I wanted. I would definitely recommend this shop to anyone who is looking for fast and neat braided styles.
I have been here on 2 occasions May 2026 & August 2026 for the kid braid specials. They have some of the NASTIEST & RUDE lady’s working here. The shop is gorgeous & location is large & convenient but they need some assistance with proper protocol, customer service & professionalism.
May 2026 - we arrived at 8pm - I asked for large box braids for my daughter & showed a reference photo. Two lady’s started on her shortly after arriving - one lady was polite the other didn’t say a word IN ENGLISH. The lady who did not speak made the first 1-2 rows in the back WAY larger than the other lady & as pictured. Thr lady told her in her language it needed to be fixed I’m assuming & the lady became annoyed. The conversation amongst them & other stylists went silent & they just stared. The lady who did not speak decided to start eating as she was doing my daughter’s hair. Absolutely RIDICULOUS. We were there less than 2.5hrs. Zelle would not go through so I paid with their card reader $180 (KEEP THIS IN MIND). I did try to reach out via Instagram message to advise about the lady eating while doing my daughter hair but it kept giving automated responses & I unfortunately never receive a response. They also deleted my comment on TikTok.
August 2026: We arrived & was just started at - no hello. I walked to the counter & let the older lady know we had another appointment. Medium braid box $180 back to school special. The two ladies that worked on my daughter did a EXCELLENT job. I asked one lady who was working on my daughter about a style for myself & she seemed nervous to answer & directed me to another woman. The same lady who provided the price later started having conversations with the others braids in their language but kept saying “black women” in between their commentary while laughing. It was time to check out but the lady was fine from the front desk. I requested the phone number to use Zelle from the lady who provided the price for the style I inquired about. Zelle due to too many transactions to the phone number (per navy federal). The lady kept insisting I pay cash or cashapp - I said I don’t have either. I was moving too slow for her I guess she started being very nasty saying “just pay cash” and standing near me as if I was going to runoff. I requested to just pay be card - she told me that’s not an option. I told her I paid by card the last time no issue. She keep saying “well cashapp pay cashapp” - I said no I would like to pay how I paid before since your Zelle us not working. She then told me it was a $10 fee ON TOP of the service for using their credit card machine. I said absolutely not that’s illegal & I did not have this issue the last time. This prompted me even more to pay via card to have a paper trail. This whole ordeal took about 20-30 mins going back & forth until they sent another lady to attempt to intimidate me. She said they don’t take Zelle it costs money, they don’t have navy federal & I could pay cashapp for $5 PLUS the service. I told them what their doing is ILLEGAL, crazy & i would not be paying another addition fee of $5 or $180 to pay the balance. That did not work so they called what I’m assuming to be the owner - a woman. The lady kept saying something in her language & the word “crazy”. Then handed the phone for me to speak with the owner I’m assuming. I told her this experience was terrible, the customer service was terrible & Her business could be at risk for trying to charge merchants a processing fee of $10. She seemed to be scared once I brought up that being illegal and advised that I would be able to pay with their card reader machine just the $180 and no additional fees.
The terrible customer service The second time around has definitely outweigh the convenience and decent pricing.

I wrote a much longer review that I deleted because I should have just done a better job of looking up previous reviews before booking with them...
Bring your own bundles otherwise they will use very cheap synthetic hair. My skin is having a reaction to the brand of synthetic hair, this is not my 1st time having braids, and I am going somewhere else to fix them. Also they do not take Apple Pay. Overall they seem somewhat disorganized. I feel I was overcharged also. I am happy to pay for great work, but what I walked out, and woke up with the next day, was not as good as I was hoping for.
I wish them well but I will never book with them again. Too stressful.
( also to the owner: some people understand multiple languages and your braiders should be warned about speaking poorly of clientele who can hear them. They should not assume that the people sitting in the chair only speak one language....)
I love my style but the pricing is inconsistent. I booked my small boho knotless braids for $340 online with a deposit, and they charged me $450 after finishing as the “special was no longer active”. It’s still listed at $340 as I’m writing this.
I did 2 stars only because My daughters hair turned out beautiful, HOWEVER the experience was not the best, if my daughter wasn’t so excited to get her hair done there’s no way I would have stayed and continued with the service. From the second I walked through the door nobody greeted me, nobody communicated with me about anything and made it impossible to ask questions. There was only ONE lady in the entire establishment that was kind and came and spoke. Unfortunately I will never come back
My first-time patronizing Awa's Hair Braiding and it was an awesome experience. Will debe back and recommended this place to anyone looking for an array of braided styles.
I bought my two daughters here for braids. They were fast and when I had a problem they corrected it with no hesitation. I gave them an inspo pic and they executed it with ease. I drove from Menifee to knock both of them out at the same time. I'll be doing this again.
This place is a scam, believe all the bad reviews. They also don’t speak English (I think it’s cool to speak another language but if we can’t communicate at all then how can we discuss details about the session?). They won’t style your hair the way you want them to even if you’ve shown them inspiration pics clearly displaying how you want your hair to be done before the session (even if you remind them of the style you want to avoid any confusion while they give you fake reassurance throughout the process). They won’t tell you they don’t know how to do edges & they’ll make you pay in cash. Take your business elsewhere to avoid any miscommunication & disappointment (& heartache from feeling humiliated/ scammed). Also this is not the place to go to for your very first braiding experience, they WILL disappoint you & play in your face. Very unprofessional & rude, do better.
