Just last week (five years later) I needed a hot water heater replaced that had been broken during a freeze, and couldn’t find a plumber to help. With no responsibility for doing so, Tyler at zbranek didn’t hesitate to jump in, find a plumber, and oversee the repair. Their service (and Tyler in particular) was incredible!

I'm pleased to share my most recent (4-Mar-2025) experience with Zbranek & Holt Custom Homes.
Austin encountered the crazy gust wind of ~50 miles/hour on the ground, in most area on 4-Mar-2025. Our lot being on top of the hill facing Lake Travis ending up with close to 100 miles/hour, due to both speed-up and Venturi effects. One exterior patio 60" ceiling fan caught the crazy wind and was blown out of its socket with only one bolt left holding it, dangling and spinning & blades hitting ceiling due to wind...possibly falling anytime which can cause more damage to window, tile, and fan itself...
House was delivered end 2021, so the warranty period has long passed. Reached out to Z&H bossman Tony Holt at 5PM for help...Tony and his VP Tyler Dart scrambled for electricians that can stop by to fix, but all were gone for the day...
The phone rang again...Tyler sacrificed his family time with the new-born baby, drove 40 minutes across the town, arrived 6:20PM and completely fixed it at 7PM... then drove another 40 minutes back home... totally beyond the expired warranty and his call of duty. I call it as far and beyond a 5-star customer service!

The short version: Out of the handful of close friends that have built a custom home in the last 2-3 years, I’m not simply the only one still speaking with their builder, I’m writing them a 5 star review.
The longer version: The opportunity to build your dream, custom home can be an amazing experience. Most of the world never gets this chance. And your hopes and dreams and excitement are all wrapped up in a vision you have for your future home. At the same time building a custom home is hard. It just is. Every custom home is only built once - and the first time you build anything, you make mistakes and learn along the way. When you multiply that by the literally 1000’s of small and large choices, the chance for something to go wrong is nearly 100%. So it’s not a matter of everything being perfect - it’s a matter of how you work together when everything isn’t perfect and doesn’t go well. And in a time of high inflation, contractor variations, and occasional materials shortages, it can even be harder. When choosing a builder, this may be just one of a hundred or thousand homes they’ve built - but for you, it’s likely the only one. We’ve been in our Z&H home for about one year now - and we’ve been able to see the entire process from a wish list of features to a full warranty period. Tony, Tyler, Brandie, and Johnny have been there for our whole journey. The home exceeds our expectations in both form and function. Special thanks to Brandie for working with us through all the small choices we needed to make; we had a standing meeting each Thursday and I always looked forward to those discussions. And special thanks to Johnny for being there with us every day - the good days and the harder days - never wavering in his desire to make things right for us. There were several “unplanned challenges” along the way - some needing small adjustments and others needing a fairly major re-thinking of approach. In each of these moments, I felt like we were able to each be honest with the other on our perspectives, to get the facts and the options on the table, and to come to an agreement on the best way to move forward. None of my friends that have built custom homes can say the same. If you’re thinking of building a custom home in the area, you should definitely consider Zbranek & Holt.
I've had a handful of custom homes built over the years and Zbranek & Holt is by far the best custom home builder I've used. The house design was very modern with a few challenging design elements, but everything turned out perfectly. Their project manager was very meticulous and was on site every day to make sure everything was done properly. He said at the start he was going to build the home as if it was his own, and he was true to his word, and that goes for the entire staff at Z&H. Their accounting is very transparent, and unlike many other home builders, they won't underbid the job and then try to hit you with hidden costs later. You can log into your personalized client portal online to always keep up with every detail, and every change order is well documented. It has been a real pleasure working with these guys and I would highly recommend them for any house construction project in the Austin area.
Zbranek & Holt built our custom lake house and completed it in July 2019. The build process was seamless. Steve was incredibly responsive at all times to our every need. The quality of the build was as promised. The project remained on budget which was completely amazing. His architect drew a beautiful design exactly to match our dreams and thoughts. Promises delivered. Steve Zbranek and his professionals led us through the entire process and delivered on everything we agreed on. On time and on budget. Can’t say enough about their office and admin staff. No guesswork on costs vs bids and where everything was in real time. Our onsite project manager was top notch and always very responsive to questions, changes, or any small detail that came up. Not only that, but we have been in the home for almost six months and they continue to follow up and make sure everything is perfect.

Tony and Steve made the clients a lot of promises - and delivered on every one of them. The house was smaller in both size and budget, yet I was extremely impressed with their ability to maintain the clients budget, and completed the home in a timely manner.

I've visited 1000's homes in the Texas hill country and this was by far the nicest! And it's on the river! The house is elevated high enough to ensure safety during flooding and has a solid foundation. Tony and his team built an amazing deck to take in the views as well as a one of a kind stairway to get down to the river and take a dip. There are a ton of windows to let in light and also enjoy the scenery from inside. The metal roof is a nice touch that looks great and is built to last. I highly recommend Zbranek & Holt Custom Homes for anyone concerned about craftsmanship and quality!
Best business decision ever.
Less than a year ago my wife and I purchased a beautiful piece of property on the Blanco river to build our retirement home. We started looking at builders and finally narrowed our choice to two firms, both with excellent reviews. One typically builds homes about the size we were looking for and was known as a reputable green builder. The other was Zbranek and Holt. In full disclosure, we were concerned with their amazing reputation for building large spectacular homes. I was afraid that at 2275 sq/ft and while very but nice by no means extravagant, our ‘little’ home might not get focus the attention to detail from them that we might get from the ‘little guy’. After several discussions with Steve Zbranek he resolved our concerns and we decided to go with Z&H.
As I previously said; Best decision ever.
Building a home requires a close relationship for an extended time with lots of trust in your builder. In retrospect, I’ve never had a professional relationship with a business that was more focused on making sure every detail was done right and consistently exceeding my expectations. In addition, working with Tony Holt and the staff at Z&H during the last year has been a real pleasure. They are truly nice people.
In the next few weeks we will be moving into our river house and we will always be thankful to Tony, Steve and the rest at Zbranek and Holt for building what truly is our dream home. Thank You!
