It took some time before I was brave enough to write this but after looking back on my experience I thought Dr. Ray truly deserves the kind words. This type of thing isn't something anyone wants to have to write but then again our pets don't live forever. And if after a full and happy life you're confronted with the decision to let your pet go then I hope it's as cautiously, gently, and respectfully handled as Dr. Ray had been. I did a lot of research beforehand and needed this to be as painless for me as humanly possible, if there could ever be such a thing. Zen Dog and Dr. Ray made it so all the way through. I am so thankful to have found them and I'm sure you will too.
Dr.Ray came through at the last minute, contacted two other services before reaching out to him,one no longer was serving Westchester County (they had taken care of my dog in 2023) and the other set an appointment for Sunday. My male cat (18 year old)had declined badly early Friday morning and I couldn't think of waiting almost 72 hours for him to rest peacefully.
Dr.Ray reached out to me by 5pm on Friday afternoon and set a 10:00am appointment the next morning (less than 24 hours) to help my cat transition to the next phase.
Dr.Ray prices are very reasonable and no extra charge if the appointment falls on a weekend,he was very courteous, compassionate and professional through this difficult time for me with my cat.
I would highly recommend Dr.Ray when it comes time for your cat or dog.
Thank you 🙏🏾

Lori, thank you for this. Eighteen years, what a life he lived. I'm really glad you found me when the other options fell through, and that we could get things sorted quickly so he didn't have to wait and suffer through the weekend. That kind of timing matters so much. It was an honor to be there for him and for you. Wishing you comfort.

Excellent communication, so calm and compassionate and empathetic. I couldn’t have asked for a better guide through this difficult and heartbreaking end of life process. So much care was given to me and to my beloved dog, I will never forget it. Even though my dog was 17, her decline was swift and unexpected. I shared all the Vet reports with Zen Dog to get their opinion and they were honest, open, and caring. Every dog parent has to face this at some point, I’ve had to face it twice, trust me when I tell you that you want a compassionate and patient doctor with you through it and give Zendog a call.

Thank you so much for this. Seventeen years is such a full life, and I know how disorienting it is when a decline happens that fast and unexpectedly. I'm glad I could be honest with you about her reports and give you something solid to stand on while making such a hard call. Having gone through this twice yourself, your words mean even more. I'm honored I could guide you through it.

On June 2nd the time had come to say goodbye to my Lexie. This heartbreaking decision is never easy under any circumstance let alone that my girl was never one for car travel and would always panic on her way to the vet. I was so fortunate to have found Zen Dog and Dr. Ray. This service is a blessing in so many ways. Dr. Ray was able to get to us quickly enough that my girl wasn’t suffering for long. He was incredibly kind, patient and walked us through each step of the process. There was no rush, she went to sleep peacefully surrounded by everyone and everything that made her feel safe. Dr. Ray even allowed our other dog, her best friend time to sniff and begin to process the change. He took Lexie with him carefully and respectfully. We chose to have her cremated and she will be coming home tomorrow. Through the entire process it felt like Dr. Ray had been our family vet for years, not someone we had just met. Thank you for everything Dr. Ray and for this deeply personal service you provide. Our family is beyond grateful. I highly recommend ZenDog without hesitation.

Jennifer, thank you for sharing this. Lexie deserved to go peacefully at home instead of panicking on a car ride to the vet, and I'm so glad I could make that happen for her. Letting her best friend say goodbye too was important. Dogs feel that loss in their own way. I'm honored your family trusted me with something so personal. Sending you all comfort as you welcome her home.

Dr. Ray Spragley of Zen Dog was an incredible source of compassion and professionalism during one of the hardest days of our lives.
When our beloved dog Chaz took a sudden turn for the worse, I made a last-minute panicked call for help. Dr. Spragley went out of his way to accommodate us and traveled from Westchester to Brooklyn within just a couple of hours so Chaz could pass peacefully at home surrounded by love.
Throughout the entire process, he was calm, caring, compassionate, and incredibly respectful. He explained everything gently, gave us time, and handled such an emotional moment with tremendous dignity and kindness.
We will always be grateful to him for helping spare Chaz any further suffering and for giving him such a peaceful goodbye.
Thank you, Dr. Ray Spragley.

Love, Compassion, and Dignity for my Beautiful girl, Jewel
There are no words to fully express how grateful I am to ZenDog Veterinary Care and Dr. Ray for helping me say goodbye to my sweet 19-year-old cat, Jewel. She was so much more than a pet, she was my constant companion, my comfort, and the love that helped carry me through some of the hardest times in my life. Having to let her go was one of the most painful things I’ve had to face.
From the moment Dr. Ray arrived, his compassion and kindness immediately brought a sense of calm into an unbearable situation. He explained everything gently and clearly, never making me feel rushed, and treated Jewel with such tenderness and dignity. Because of him, Jewel was able to pass peacefully at home on her blanket, the place where she felt safe and loved.
What also meant so much to me was how thoughtfully every detail was handled. When Jewel was returned to me, she was placed in a beautiful memorial box where I could display her photo, such a small but deeply meaningful touch that showed the level of care and respect they have for pets and those that love them.
Dr. Ray helped make an incredibly heartbreaking experience feel less frightening and less overwhelming. I will always be grateful for the peace, compassion, and dignity he gave my beautiful girl in her final moments. I will miss her forever. 🌈🐾

We cannot say enough about Dr Ray and how he showed up for us when we needed him, even though he was not our regular vet. A lovely, caring and compassionate Dr that we highly recommend.

A beautiful goodbye with compassion
Was supported with the upmost respect and professionalism by Dr. Ray. Just lost my husband a month ago, so making the decision to put our dog to sleep was hard. It was the right thing to do in this difficult time and I felt a sense of ease and relief. Dr. Ray was caring and I appreciated that so much. Thank you for making this experience, though hard, a beautiful one.

Dr. Ray supported us through one of the most difficult things we’ve ever had to do — saying goodbye to our beloved 12YO labrador. We knew we wanted our sweet boy to go peacefully at home on his favorite blanket instead of in a sterile veterinary office, and we are so thankful to Dr. Ray for helping make that happen. He was incredibly kind, compassionate, knowledgeable and professional, and the time he spent in our home helped so much to process the loss we were about to face and, maybe just as importantly, gave us the reassurance we needed that our decision was the right one for our gentle giant. We highly recommend him.

Jenny, thank you so much for this review and for trusting me with such an important moment. Twelve years is a lifetime of love, and your boy deserved to go peacefully at home on his favorite blanket, not in a clinic. That's exactly what in-home pet euthanasia is for. I'm really glad I could be there for your family and give you that reassurance. He was clearly so loved.

We reached out to Dr. Ray during one of the hardest times of our lives — saying goodbye to our beloved family cat of 15 years through an at-home euthanasia service. From the moment he arrived, he was everything we could have hoped for: professional, kind, and compassionate.
Dr. Ray never once made us feel rushed. He gave us all the time we needed and approached the entire process with such gentleness and compassion. It was clear that he genuinely cares — not just about his patients, but about the families going through this grief alongside them.
Having him come to our home made an unbearable situation more peaceful and dignified. This is not an easy calling — very few people have the strength and heart to do this work — and the world is truly a better place because people like Dr. Ray choose to. We are so grateful for the care he showed our family. If you are facing this difficult decision, I cannot recommend Dr. Ray enough. He is truly exceptional at what he does.

Skye, thank you for taking the time to write this and for sharing that beautiful photo. Fifteen years is a long, full life, and it was an honor to be welcomed into your home to help your family give her such a peaceful, dignified goodbye. That's exactly what in-home pet euthanasia should feel like. I'm so sorry for your loss, and I'm grateful I could be there for all of you.

Dr. Ray was so calming and reassuring at a most difficult time. I hesitated to make the decision to schedule a day to put our girl to sleep and when we finally did Dr. Ray answered my call in the very early morning hours to move our time up because she was struggling. Those few hours meant less pain for our dog and I am so grateful to Dr. Ray for rushing over to our home.
I cannot recommend him enough.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Zen Dog Veterinary Care. From beginning to end, their care, professionalism, and compassion made an incredibly difficult experience a little more bearable.
From the very first phone call with Dr. Ray, I felt supported. He took the time to walk us through every step of the process with such kindness and clarity, making sure we knew what to expect and what would come next. When he came to our home, he treated my dog, Mya our senior mini Dachshund, with dignity and gave us the space and guidance we needed during such an emotional moment.
True to their word, the follow-up was seamless. The team stayed in touch exactly as promised. Tammy was so kind, understanding, and easy to talk to—she truly made me feel heard and cared for.
When Mya’s ashes were ready, everything continued to exceed my expectations. Sean called ahead just as they said he would, arrived on time, and personally delivered her ashes to my door with such respect and compassion.
This was an experience I will never forget, and I am deeply grateful to Zen Dog Venterinary Care for the care they provided every step of the way. I would wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone facing this difficult time. They are truly exceptional.

He is so kind, compassionate and patient. Zen Dog made a painful duty as comfortable, gentle and meaningful as possible. So, so much better to do this in the familiar, quiet space of my own home, completely different than previous experiences I’ve had in cold, clinical vet offices. I’m so grateful that we got to say goodbye so gracefully, that my poor elderly dog’s last moments were peaceful instead of frightening.
I was introduced to Dr Ray at Zen Dog on the worst day of my life. Letting Jagger go was nothing I expected to happen at his age. I knew that morning it was the right thing to do for Jagger but I was brokenhearted to say the least .
Dr Ray was there within hours of my call. He was kind, patient and brought an energy to my home that softened the heartache we were all feeling. I don’t know how to describe it other than ZEN dog is a very appropriate name. In such a sad time Dr Ray made it slightly less devastating.
My cat, Illy was 20 years old and was on her last day… every vet I contacted didn’t have same day service for euthanization. I discovered Dr. Ray & I hired him for same day service. He got to my house in less than 2 hours to euthanize my cat. He also provided cremation. He wrapped her and placed her into a basket and took her. I received the tracking number within 2 weeks to received her ashes. I should be receiving her urn within the next couple of days. I had a pleasant experience with Dr. Ray. He’s very professional and understanding. I’ll definitely contact him again in the future.
TLDR: Game changing. Dr. Ray was perfect and my heavy heart is the slightest bit lighter because of this experience.
Several years ago, I made a promise to do at-home euthanasia for my pet. Seeing him scared at each annual vet exam broke my heart that his last moments could be accompanied by fear.
His time came suddenly, but a cancellation allowed Dr. Ray to come on the same day. Over the phone, he was calm, patient, and compassionate while I explained the situation. He agreed that euthanasia was the right decision (since I could not yet get ahold of my regular vet). He explained how the process would go and was open to any and all questions I had. When he arrived, he went over it again. He was reassuring and respectful in our grief and patient while we said goodbye.
In the end, I was so fortunate to make good on my promise. My pet's last moments were full of security and contentment, surrounded by the home he knew and the family he loved. There was no fear, just rest. I would recommend at-home euthanasia to any pet owner, and Dr. Ray as your first choice. It can be challenging to schedule in an emergency, but just try to be as prepared as possible and have as much lead time as you can. If your first choice is booked, ask for others. It might be more expensive than going to a clinic, but if your pet is fearful of vet offices, there is no greater "Thank You" you can give them than this final gift.
