Short story.. took our 2008 Sienna in for a check engine light pointing at the transmission vehicle speed sensor (I scanned it, I am an ex Ford technician). Also scheduled an oil change. I hate working on my own cars.
About an hour later I get a phone call that they thought I should do a coolant flush, trans flush, brake fluid flush, cabin air filter and engine air filter. I asked what the diagnosis on the transmission was. They hadnt got to it yet. This is where I started to feel like things were going to go sideways. You would NEVER FLUSH A TRANS when there is a CEL on pointing at the TRANS. The trans guy is gonna want to see the fluid. So I told him please diag the trans first.
Next phone call, tech drove it, drove fine (yes, that is correct. It only stumbles a bit then sets the CEL). Said the next step would be a reman transaxle since Toyota no longer makes new ones. $8600, which is well over the value of the Sienna. Ok, whatever. I called their parts dept and had them order me a VSS for it. Took it home and installed it the next day. That was just under 1000 miles ago. No codes. No hiccups. A $200 sensor.
Now this is the part that irritates me. If I was not previously a tech and knew better, we would have been shopping for a new vehicle. How many others have they done this to? A simple $200 fix, and the code it was showing P0793 literally points right at that VSS sensor. The checks are for scoping it and checking the resistance, guess what- the tech never even removed the air filter they say was dirty let alone the lower part of the airbox to access the sensor to test it. What process was your tech following? I printed it out and sent it to you Sergio, and since you asked what my problem was and its been a month and a half with no reply, I have to assume to are too chicken to reply to me. Your tech failed you, but you covering it up is even worse. This is NOT the way to run a service dept.
I hope someone above Sergio reads this and takes some action. I also hope you backflagged your tech and id like my diag money back please since no actual diag was done. Keep the oil change money, but you will never see another dime from me.

Ryan and crew are amazing, we are from out of town. Had a bit of a fender bender and wanted to make sure all was good for our multiple day trip.
