One of the better outfitter experiences I’ve had. We go bear hunting with wilderness mule every year. The quality of lodging, the food, the bears, and Caleb himself all shine when hunting with wilderness mule. Caleb, chef Andrew, and Zack make this an unforgettable experience and I recommend it to anyone who’s interested in bear hunting.
Cannot recommend Caleb more highly as an outfitter to entrust your adventure to! I have hunted with Caleb three times, returning for a fourth. He is personally inexhaustible, deep in his knowledge and meticulous in his planning to ensure a tight ship and well-run operation. His vision of a backcountry experience that is a “cut above” is delivered every time with in-camp chefs Andrew or Pete, a romantic tent setting and excellent horse and mule stock. He will work tirelessly to get the job done, and no detail is overlooked. My most recent trip was as a result of drawing a once in a lifetime Bighorn tag, and Caleb stepped up to make it a success; mobilized a great team of guides, led the way throughout, and we got a great ram as a result of his efforts and organization! I would give Caleb and Wilderness Mule Outfitting 10 stars if the review platform would allow. "Superb in every way imaginable" could be this outfitter's tag line, and it would fit. I've hunted spring bear three times now with Caleb. Twice I've filled tags with beautiful color-phase boars -- big ones -- and the third time I had my chance and passed up on the shot. Caleb works extremely hard to find the intersection of baits, bears, and hunter opportunities. He's patient to answer questions, he's personable with hunters from all walks of life, and he knows how to set up a camp with comforts you simply don't find elsewhere in the wild. No detail is spared, including white linen tablecloths. Caleb is also savvy about the relationship between hungry hunters and food and provides a legit chef in camp for scrumptious fine dining experiences. He knows how to hunt big game, but above even that, I've learned he is trustworthy and dependable. If you want spring bear in Idaho, you will never regret hunting with Caleb. My next goal is to hunt mule deer someday with him!

Hunted a drop camp with Wilderness Mule about 3 years ago. Their camp gear, camp set up, and food was second to none. A true back county experience is what you are going to get. Would recommend to anyone looking to test their physical limits while still having a luxury experience back at camp.

Wilderness mule is the outfitter to hunt with when looking into a back country horseback hunt. Caleb is a very particular guy and the way the camp is ran shows - tents are always set up nice with stove and firewood - food is always 5 star - i think this is the only hunting trip i go on and come back weighing more! The frank church is an unforgiving place - steep country and hard hunting - Caleb makes it the best experience - allowing you to work your butt off all day then come back to a nice camp with a hot meal makes it a very nice experience. spring or fall hunts its always a great time and i will continue to hunt with Caleb for years to come!

If you’ve considered hunting for trophy class black (and color phase black) bears- there’s no better choice than Wilderness Mule Outfitting. From start to finish this outfit is first class. The accommodations are terrific, the food is literally five star, the guiding is an education, the team is so fun to hang out with, and the terrain is some of the most beautiful in all of the west. I promise you, Caleb (owner) is an absolute professional and has thought of everything to insure your experience is the best in the industry. I hunted in June of 2024 with my brother and buddy. We had the time of our lives! Hands down the best spring bear outfit around. Numbers of quality bear on every sit. Caleb works year round to keep the bear around. He only takes a select number of hunters each year which is pivotal to success. If that wasn't enough, the food was out of this world. 5-Star dinning for every meal right on the Salmon river!!! A forest fire wiped out my chance at an elk hunt with them but Wilderness Mule let me change over to a mountain lion hunt. Everything was great. Caleb had to overcome several weather obstacles to get me to camp but did it with ease. Everything at the camp was great, wall tents were snug and warm and the food was great. These guys worked their butts of to make my hunt a great one. There is not one thing I would have changed.
