I’m sitting looking across the Thames at Greenwich and I can see every amazing, glorious detail. After 66 years of severe myopia and astigmatism deteriorating further to -15 and -12.50 plus cataracts, I arrived at Mr Maurino’s clinic with little vision and feeling confused. I had already seen three other ophthalmologists who had all suggested different lense replacements, none of which sat comfortably within the reading and research I had undertaken as a journalist/writer. I knew choosing the right lense replacement and the right surgeon was my one chance of achieving clear vision for the first time in my life. Mr Maurino is personable and charming with no trace of arrogance. He listened, thought and decided on J&J Eyhance Monofocal Plus Toric with a monovision plan which made immediate sense to me given the status of my eyes. He also kindly and patiently answered further questions I sent over and was happy to discuss the strength of the reading IOL. With the right eye set for distance first and a week later the left eye for reading, five weeks on I have perfect vision. I can see distance 20/20 in my right eye and easily read both at arm’s length and close up with my left eye. I haven’t once felt the need to reach for additional glasses which is life changing. His whole team is kind and gentle and the operations themselves are nothing to worry about. Throughout I felt my eyes were in perfectly safe hands. Having only been able to see clearly at three inches in front of my eyes, I now wake up every morning and marvel at the clarity and colours of my new world. Thank you Mr Vincenzo Maurino. I would highly recommend Mr Maurino, who I came to see for a second opinion regarding my eye with stage 3 keratoconus, a contentious toric IOL and a visually obstructive (post cataract) PCO. I sought a treatment plan that evaluated all three issues - not just my keratoconus (which tends to dominate consultations to the exclusion of everything else). I especially wanted my visual experience to be listened to (not just relying on vision tests and what is seen from scans and through slit-lamps and assumptions made).
Mr Maurino provided a professional and considered review. While his initial report was less comprehensive and representative of our discussion than hoped, he was prompt, considered and generous in his follow-up to my post-appointment questions . I value his extensive experience and trust his professional advice.
This was a positive, individualised and wholly different experience from my consultations with another eminent consultant at Moorfields Private Hospital, who exhibited unprofessional behaviour, in addition to providing largely canned responses - including medically questionable recommendations for unnecessary laser PRK surgery on my other eye that now achieves (post cataract) 20/20 vision without such treatment.

We are thinking of suing or taking this surgeon to the General Medical Council. Is there anyone out there who has had a similar experience with this surgeon? My close friend had phaco surgery to replace cataract lenses in both eyes at the same time a few months ago by Dr Vincenzo Maurino. She had problems with one eye straight after the operation and she was told to be patient and that her eyesight would improve over time but she is nearly blind in that eye now and the other eye seems to be going the same way. The surgeon was very dismissive and has now stopped responding. Is there no accountability? Is there anyone out there who wants to join forces and hold this surgeon to account?
Mr Maurino undertook cataract surgery in both my eyes and the results are excellent. The procedure itself was not at all unpleasant and I had no discomfort in my eyes afterwards. From start to finish, I was delighted with my care and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Mr Maurino to anyone contemplating similar surgery.
My father recently had cataract surgery with Mr Maurino, he had severe and moderate cataract in each eye which prevents him from doing most daily activities. He also has high myopia -16 in one eye and -12 in the other. He could hardly read or see far distance even with glasses. After surgery his eye has now recovered to reading perfectly well arm distance without glasses, and he has 20:20 vision in both eyes with glasses when looking long distance. This is absolutely a miracle and my father’s life quality increased so much because of the surgery. Mr Maurino was very patient and calm, the experience has been amazing.

I had laser eye surgery under the care of Mr. Maurino in May, and I couldn’t be happier with the entire experience. From the very first consultation, I felt completely informed. I had a consultation with Mr. Maurino beforehand to assess my suitability and he explained everything clearly, which really put me at ease. I had delayed making an initial appointment for over a year due to my fear of eye surgery. In the event, I really needn’t have worried. I chose this consultant due to his excellent reputation, and I’m so glad I did. He inspired confidence and trust as soon as I met him due to his knowledge, professionalism and approachable manner. The operation itself was completely painless, thanks to Mr Maurino’s skill, assisted by the anaesthetising eye drops and slight sedation. I couldn’t feel what was happening at all, which had been my biggest fear! It was all over in about 35 minutes.
