We chose Van Fit Solutions because of their strong social media presence and the quality of the work they showcase online. We wanted a fully custom van racking build with pull-out drawers, black lockable handles and a layout designed specifically around how we work. Based on everything we saw online and the initial conversations, they seemed like the ideal choice.
The communication before the build was excellent. Everything was handled over WhatsApp, which was convenient, and responses were quick. We paid the £500 deposit to secure the booking and later received the final invoice. One thing I'd mention is that the deposit isn't deducted from the final invoice, so you'll make two separate payments. We were initially expecting the remaining balance to be around £2,600, but this later increased to £2,800.
We travelled up the night before and dropped the van off as arranged. The following morning we went through the layout with the fitter. The design process was done by sketching everything out in pencil on a piece of paper. Looking back, I think this is where some misunderstandings started. My advice would be to make sure every measurement, feature and requirement is documented in detail before work begins.
Unfortunately, when we collected the van later that evening, the build wasn't what we had expected. Because it wasn't finished until around 8pm, it was difficult to properly inspect everything before leaving. It wasn't until the following day, in daylight while loading the van, that we realised how many issues there were.
Some of the problems included bubbling floor matting, steps in the rear despite requesting a false floor, shelving at different heights for our Euro crates, missing bulkhead boarding, missing boxing around the bench, wood that we'd requested to be blacked out not being finished, the custom removable bike rack not being made, and the black lockable drawer handles we'd specified still not being fitted. Overall, several of the features we'd discussed simply hadn't been completed.
To their credit, after I sent a video explaining the issues, I received a phone call within minutes from the person many people will recognise from their social media. They were apologetic and arranged for us to return so they could rectify the problems. They did fix a number of the issues, but there were others that we chose not to have altered because we'd lost confidence and didn't want additional work carried out on a brand-new van.
We also asked about reimbursement for the extra travel and hotel costs we'd incurred returning to Middlesbrough, along with the possibility of a partial refund for the work as i lersonally qasnt happy with it. We were told this would be looked into, but we never received any further update. We had also understood from their social media that accommodation was available for customers spending over £1,500, but this wasn't offered during either of our visits.
In the end, we spent around £3,500 in total, not including travel and accommodation, and unfortunately we don't feel we received the bespoke, custom build we were expecting. In fact, we'll be removing much of the racking and rebuilding it ourselves.
I can only comment on my own experience, but my advice to anyone considering a custom build is to have every detail, measurement and requirement clearly documented in writing before work starts. Don't rely solely on a hand-drawn sketch, and if possible, inspect the finished van thoroughly before making the final payment.
The team were friendly and communication was ok, and they did make an effort to resolve some of the problems. Unfortunately, for us, the final product simply didn't justify the cost, and we left disappointed. Probably the last time we ever get a company to do racking on a van.
When I say disappointed I mean I had a break down the morning after.

We are sorry you remain unhappy, but several points require clarification.
The main point in your review is that dimensions, positioning and requirements should be properly documented and checked. That is exactly why we use a sign-on sheet before work begins and a separate sign-off sheet when the installation is completed.
• The layout, dimensions, positioning and requested features are discussed around the vehicle before manufacturing begins.
• At collection, every customer is specifically asked to inspect the full system thoroughly, including the drawers, shelving, flooring, handles, positioning and overall suitability.
• The customer then signs the sign-off sheet confirming the installation has been inspected and accepted.
This process exists for the exact issues you are now raising. You were given the opportunity to inspect the installation but briefly looked around it and signed to confirm acceptance. Our CCTV footage records the handover process.
If concerns had been raised during handover, our team could have addressed them immediately. Despite the signed acceptance, when you contacted us the following day, we responded within minutes and arranged for the vehicle to return. A number of points were then rectified.
We must also correct the following:
• Your £500 deposit was not added to the quoted price. Customers receive a deposit invoice and a separate balance invoice. Together, they equal the agreed total. You were not charged twice.
• The remaining balance increased because additional black HEX door panels were requested. Our pricing only changes when a customer adds or removes items.
• The bubbling floor covering occurred because the rubber bonding to the HEX plywood had not set correctly. This was an unfortunate workmanship issue that we were prepared to rectify and did.
• You requested one-tab runners. It later became clear that when you referred to “tabs”, you meant handles. Our team built from the instructions and terminology provided.
• With a fully bespoke installation, clear communication is essential. We can only manufacture from the requirements explained and confirmed by the customer.
• The complimentary hotel is available to qualifying customers but is not automatically booked. It must be requested and arranged. You had also referred to cycling to your hotel, indicating accommodation had already been organised by yourself.
We retain the relevant WhatsApp conversations, emails, recorded calls, signed paperwork and CCTV footage.
We agree that the more detail provided for a bespoke fitment, the better. That is precisely why we have the consultation, sign-on sheet, final inspection and signed acceptance process.
Our team responded immediately and made every reasonable effort to assist. However, we do not accept that you were charged twice, that the price increased without explanation, or that you were not given the opportunity to inspect the system.
You were specifically asked to check the completed installation thoroughly and signed to confirm acceptance. Responsibility for choosing not to carry out that inspection properly cannot now be placed entirely on our team.

You’ve contacted us several times over a period of time asking for quotations, you haven’t proceeded with an order, and you’re now upset because the prices you were given weren’t frozen forever in time.
Unfortunately, we don’t operate a museum of historic quotations. Prices can change with material costs, labour, inflation and specification changes. If you add items, remove items or change what you want, the total changes too. Revolutionary stuff, we know.
Our pricing is also published openly on our website, so there’s no secret formula, no roulette wheel in the office and no member of staff making numbers up depending on what mood they’re in.
You also mention our 20% promotion. A discount applies to the current price at the time of the promotion. It doesn’t mean finding the lowest quotation you were ever given, dusting it off months later and then knocking another 20% off for good measure. Sadly, that isn’t how pricing works.
And just to clear up one final point: we are not forcing you to keep contacting us.
If you didn’t like the first quote, you were free to go elsewhere. If you didn’t like the second quote, you were still free to go elsewhere. Yet you continued to contact us for more quotations, and each time we did the apparently outrageous thing of answering your enquiry and giving you a price.
So, to summarise:
You contacted us. We quoted you. You didn’t buy. You contacted us again. We quoted you again. You still didn’t buy.
Then you left a one-star review because the prices weren’t identical.
We’re struggling to locate the “scam” part.

I honestly don’t know what was more disappointing — the van fit itself or the complete lack of organisation.
We were told to arrive at 8am and that our van build would be finished by 5pm. We arrived on time, only to stand around for almost an hour while staff ran around dealing with four other vans that were already there before us. As we left around 9am, someone casually mentioned they were “a little busy” and it might run a couple of hours over.
No problem, we thought.
We went for lunch, walked around and killed the entire day. Then at 5pm we tried calling a few times with absolutely no answer. Finally, at around 5:45pm we got a voice note saying they were “on the final hurdles” and maybe had a couple of hours left.
At 7:30pm we drove back to the factory expecting to collect the van, only to discover virtually nothing had been done apart from fitting the floor after nine hours. Again, we were told, “just a couple more hours.”
We had a 300-mile drive back to Scotland and thought okay, maybe we’ll leave around 9–10pm. Instead, by 11pm we watched every other customer’s van leave while one staff member turned around and said, “Right, all three lads are now going to work on your van.”
At 11pm.
These guys had already been there since 7am and looked exhausted, running around like zombies after completing three other vans before ours. They were only just starting our main fit-out at that point.
We finally received our van at 4am.
Every other van that day had been cleaned, blown out and properly presented to customers. Ours was filthy — covered in sawdust, wood chips and marks everywhere. There was missing black beading around shelving, equipment hadn’t even been fitted, and they’d installed a board where our rails should have gone… except the board wasn’t even the right size for the rails.
To make matters worse, I was promised a 10% discount (£300) when I originally paid my £1,000 deposit two months ago. Then at 4am, while half asleep, I was suddenly told no discount existed. After another 20 minutes of back and forth with the manager to the owner, they finally admitted that yes — the discount was real.
5pm somehow became 4am.
My business partner and I sat in the car from 7pm until 4am waiting while watching chaos unfold.
The fit itself: 5/10.
The organisation: 1/10.
Oh yes, and one thing I forgot to add — it’s not even the fact that our van was done last. That wasn’t the real issue.
The worrying part was that every customer there that day seemed to be in the exact same situation.
One customer had been promised his van for 5pm and had a six-and-a-half-hour drive ahead of him. By around 10pm he was absolutely furious, pacing around the place. I had a chat with him and he said he’d never seen a complete mess like it in his life. He told me his wife was on the phone stressed out, he had work the next morning, and he was still standing there at around 1am waiting for his van.
So trust me when I say this wasn’t just us being unlucky or impatient. Every customer there that day seemed frustrated and asking the same questions — where their van was and why the times they had been promised meant absolutely nothing.
That says more than I ever could.
Oh and after 18 hours waiting we weren’t even offered a drink….nothing!
Would make sure they only have 2/3 vans booked that day, otherwise prepare yourself for one hell of let down
I am so upset today seeing this van in day light it’s truly unacceptable.
Firstly, we want to apologise again for the delays you experienced on the day of your booking. Unfortunately, that particular day was impacted by an extremely unusual situation involving members of our team being threatened by another unprofessional company, which caused disruption and delays across the workshop. Whilst this is not an excuse, it is important context, and thankfully it is not something that has ever happened before or will ever be repeated.
We do also need to respectfully clarify a number of points for accuracy. Throughout the evening, customers on site were offered drinks, water, Starbucks, McDonald’s and overnight hotel accommodation due to the delays. You were personally offered a hotel room by our team, which you declined.
Regarding the fitment itself, you signed your satisfaction sheet on collection confirming you were happy with the completed work. The payment matter was also resolved on the night — although understandably not in the exact way you had originally expected, it was resolved in line with the agreement offered.
We are naturally disappointed to now see comments suggesting the workmanship was poor, as the finished build was thoroughly checked by our team before departure and, at the time of collection, you expressed that you were happy with the outcome. Thankfully, we also have CCTV footage from the collection process confirming this interaction.
We have attempted to contact you since your review was posted to discuss everything professionally and resolve any remaining concerns directly, but unfortunately we’ve had no response so far.
At Van Fit Solutions we take pride in the fact we have hundreds of verified 5-star reviews and customers travelling from all over the UK for our truly bespoke builds. The delays on this particular day fell below the operational standards we set ourselves, and for that we are genuinely sorry. However, we do stand by the quality of the finished build and the efforts our team made under very difficult circumstances that day.
