I had a fantastic experience with the guys at Universal Design. I wanted a tailored, patch pocket sports jacket, half lined suitable for spring and summer. They helped me choose a perfect wool fabric and tailored it precisely as I wanted. They are not the cheapest yet very competitively priced compared to comparable Bangkok tailors. Will visit again when I am in Bangkok.

(Edit: one of the 4 suits i bought was too tight right by the arm pit. I found that strange because all the other suits where fine. They told me they made them all the same because they have my measurements. But clearly they didn't. They told me the suit was fine and that the material will stretch. I have worn the suit 3 times now and it is still pretty uncomfortable. Also there is no label in the material to see what material they used. They only told me "it's the best".
When i came in they started recommending me colors right away in stead of listening to my needs and use cases of the suit. I told them i already had a blue suit 2 times before they started getting other colors. I needed to tell them like "hey this is what i want" before they would listen to me.
Also the pants where to loose on one suit, and on the other they where fine. I found that strange. It isn't a problem ofcourse because they can fix it. That is why you do fitting sessions. But one of the sales people kept telling me they where all the same. But it clearly felt different. He told me it was because of the light color and that i don't have to worry. Then the owner came and he told me and the other sales man "yes this is too loose". So i wasn't dreaming.
It all felt rushed and not very professional. It is fine when you pay a cheap price for a suit but when you are one of the better tailors in Bangkok, and according to GQ the best tailor, i expect the best service. And it felt strange, rushed and they never asked me why i wanted a suit and what i am going to use it for. I needed to tell them that myself.
Also when i was going to leave they asked me for a review and around 4 people from the store where standing around me to see what i was typing. Felt a bit intimidating.
I will wear the tight suit a couple of times more. Maybe they where right and it will stretch. But i don't think so because the other suits are just fine. So strange... i will keep you guys updated!)
Sehr guter Anzug, Ronnie und Raj sind auf alle meine Wünsche in mehreren Fittings eingegangen. Man merkt, dass hier nicht einfach „ein Programm“ durchgezogen wird. Auch wenn man vom allgemeinen Stil abweichen möchte - etwa in Form einer etwas weiteren Hose oder einer bestimmten Reversbreite, wird das problemlos möglich gemacht. Hier gibt es echtes Handwerk zum guten Preis!
I was in Thailand for a month and planned to buy a couple suits. I bought a blazer, pants, custom shirt, and a 3-piece suit. The experience was professional, the results were fantastic, and the fit was perfect. Highly recommend Universal Tailors. The process was quite easy and the costs were very affordable.
