Not a great tour
We recently took this tour in Portugal, and while the destinations themselves were absolutely beautiful, the overall experience was disappointing due to poor organization and communication. The route made several stops, but it seemed that we missed on and had to double back which wasted quite a bit of time. At the palace, we were told there was a bus to take up to the top but we were given any instructions on where to find it or how to pay for it. After standing in line for a while the bus arrived but the driver wouldn't let us on because we didn't have tickets - he pointed to a kiosk with a long time and said we needed to wait there to purchase tickets. We were short on time so we just walked to the top instead. Our guide explained that guides weren't allowed stop and give commentary inside the palace - yet there were several other guides doing just that which caused congestion and delays, but of course this was not his fault, Because of this, our group had to rush through the palace just to make it back to the bus on time. When we reached the meeting point, the bus wasn't there and the guide was nowhere to be found. He eventually showed up late and causally said, "Oh yeah, I've been watching you, I knew you were all here.". Not exactly reassuring. Throughout the ride back, he kept mentioning that if we all gave him 5-star reviews he'd take us on a "special route back" - but that route turned out to be part of the regular itinerary, which felt dishonest. That said, the free time in Sintra and Cascais was wonderful. Both charming, picturesque towns with friendly people, and we really enjoyed exploring on our own.Overall, the tour could have been great with better organization, clearer communication, and a more professional approach from the guide.
Excellent day visit.
Excellent trip. Central pick up point was great for our hotel and the places visited were beautiful. Our tour guide, Mario was really interesting with just the right amount of information provided along the way. Cascais is a lovely town as is Sintra and the Pena Palace should not be missed. Many thanks to Mario and our very skilled coach driver. Ten out of ten for both of them!
Dream Trip for Art, History and Nature Lovers
Catarina was such an amazing guide! Even while still driving out of Lisbon she was sharing stories and historical facts that helped me appreciate more everything we'd see. The destinations were beautiful and we had a good amount of time to explore around. She made the trip feel so fun!
Fabulous way to see these towns
This was a fabulous way to see Sintra and Cascais in one day, without arranging your own transportation or paying hundreds of dollars per person. Our guide Catarina was excellent - knowledgeable about history, the sites, and interesting information. It turned out to be a much bigger group that anticipated - about 30 of us - so not as intimate as some other tours.
Great day out with Ivo!
Ivo our tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly, with great commentary along the way. We stopped at great locations and had ample time at each attraction. The early start is worth it to avoid large crowds and Ivo gave us tips to avoid the crowds and take great photos. Mauro the driver was equally great with safe driving and dropping us off near each attraction. Would definitely recommend.
Book the tour - don’t try and go your own way or you will miss out!
Decided not to try and attempt Sintra by myself at the last minute and so glad I did. The day was well organised and our guide Alberto was really friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely book the option of the Pena Palace ticket as you won’t be able to get in otherwise - you can buy a ticket from the guide but this is for the gardens only and not inside the Palace which is small but lovely. The weather was interesting as Sintra is its own microclimate but it didn’t spoil things at all. We saw people trying to get back to Sintra village after the Pena Palace visit and I was so glad I didn’t try and it do it myself as it was a long walk down in not great weather. Cascais was a real gem and the sun was out there - I wouldn’t have made it there if I’d tried to do the trip myself so a bonus.
