Don’t be fooled by the dark unassuming exterior! This was the most lovely pub - all the staff were so friendly and helpful, the food was amazing (best burger I’ve had in ages) and the garden is stunning.

This was our first time trying the place and it didn’t disappoint. Even though it was busy, the staff were genuinely lovely and made us feel welcome straight away. The Sunday roast was excellent, and don’t forget to try the dessert, it’s absolutely worth saving room for. With cosy fires inside and a lovely garden outside, it’s a great spot to relax. Loads of parking space is a real bonus too.

Absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. The food was outstanding - proper “lick the plate clean” level. The duck salad starter was incredible, and the prawn linguine deserves a special shoutout too - genuinely one of the best I’ve had. The service was just as impressive: easy, friendly, and genuinely went above and beyond without ever feeling forced. On top of that, it has such warm, neighbourhood pub vibes, but still made us feel completely welcome as out-of-towners. A real gem - we’ll definitely be back.

What a fabulous find. Joined 4 good friends for Sunday lunch today. Beautiful drive to get there, wonderful setting, good menu choices, melt-in-the-mouth beef and outstanding service by a young, smiley, attentive and well-trained staff. Only problem is finding an excuse to go back soon.

This was our first time visiting, and it won’t be the last. From the time of booking until our departure we were welcomed and served by friendly and efficient staff. As you can see the building is beautiful and dates from 1460 (with a little sympathetic TLC in 1972), but with 2 vast fires and comforting wooden beams you are kept comfortable and cosey. And then there’s the food. Wow wow wow. We thoroughly enjoyed our delicious starters of French Onion Soup with cheese croutons, Asian Duck Salad and Chicken Liver Parfait. My one tiny moan was that I had to patiently wait whilst my Onion Soup cooled a little … all good things come to those that wait. Onto the mains. My Dad scoffed the day’s special of Hake with Potato Rostie and Samphire, which he didnt offer to me to taste! My husband heartedly ploughed his way through the oozy Posh Ox Cheek Cottage Pie, and because I had a hankering for muchrooms , I chose the Vegan Wild Mushroom Gnocci. Im not a vegan, not even a vegetarian but It was bursting with flavour so I would happily choose this again. After all that Im afraid I cannot report on puddings, so a very good reason to come back. All of this washed down with a very crisp and fruity Pinot Grigio, Brixton IPA and the local Langhams Bitter. Because we are inquisitive (nosey) we were shown upstairs to more comfortable tables in cosey rooms that would be great for a private function… Im told that Champagne is available 🥂

We visited to sample the sunday roast as a birthday treat and what a joy the food was. The portion was generous and exceptionally tasty so we didn't mind paying what felt like a high price. It was without a doubt one of the finest roasts we have had. Service was polite but inattentive (I had to go to the bar to eventually order some more drinks), however I didn't mind because the dining area was quiet; what a pleasure it was to not have unnecessary music blasting throughout the venue which is all too common these days. It was nice to rub shoulders with what felt like an upper middle class set of regulars and whilst my battered old car did let the car park down I don't feel anyone judged me for it. Will definitely return for another roast once my bank balance recovers.

Visit fairly regularly and the food has always been good, standard fare, nothing pretentious and just done well. The service is pleasant and meets the expectations of the type of pub/restaurant. The inglenook fires provide a cosy atmosphere and we were not rushed out the door and had plenty of time for a good chat with family and friends.

Not only is this a beautiful pub that thinks about all the fine details down to a very beautiful loo roll holder and roaring fire. The staff are very friendly, warm and welcoming 😌 the food was also absolutely delicious, probably by far the best meal I've had out in a long time! I can't wait to go back!! I would highly recommend! I would also like to add that they can make a very impressive espresso martini ! What a lovely post valentine's Day treat

Lovely pub been here various times over the past 5 years. I’ve never felt like an unreasonable customer but I almost did today. Being Christmas (and in addition to their regular menu) they’re offering a festive menu - 2 or 3 courses. I only wanted the main course of turkey ballottine, so I suggested paying the highest amount of any individual main, or whatever they suggested. This was a problem - they wanted to sell 2 courses or nothing. I could not understand the lack of foresight ‘computer says no…’ mentality. Even a high street chain is more flexible than this. But I pushed it and the manager eventually checked with the chef who of course said it was fine. I think mangers need to remember than reasonable flexibility is important the hospitality trade. Anyway, the food was delicious, fantastic seats by the fire and the staff were actually very nice. This is a great countryside pub and I’d have given 5 stars aside from the issue mentioned. Good with dogs too! 🐕
