Yos — A Heart for Care Yos was a disability support worker, but to the people she cared for, she was much more. Every day, she treated people with respect, listened to their needs, encouraged independence, and celebrated their achievements. One person she supported, Daniel, had become withdrawn and reluctant to join community activities. Yos listened and discovered his love of music. They started by listening at home, then visited a café, and eventually attended a small community music event. As Daniel listened to the music, he smiled. “Thank you, Yos,” he said. “I didn’t think I’d ever do something like this again.” “You did it,” Yos replied. “I was just there to support you.” Yos measured success not by what she did for people, but by helping them believe in what they could do for themselves. She knew support work could be challenging, but she never forgot that behind every task and support plan was a person with hopes, feelings and dreams. For Yos, making a difference could be as simple as a smile, a new skill, a moment of independence, or helping someone feel safe. She didn’t just provide care. She helped people find confidence, independence and possibility.
