Well kept historic church, set within a peaceful churchyard. The oldest parts of the building date back to Saxon times. Substantial alterations were made to the building in the 17th century.
A 19th century restoration introduced a number of notable features, including a fine stone pulpit, font, stained glass and reredos. The organ pipes are attractively decorated.
The church is open to visitors daily, and services are held regularly. The locals we met while passing by on the London Loop were friendly and happy to talk about the history of the church.

Beautiful old church. We attend most weeks and the community is very welcoming, particularly to young families with a toddlers group “little fishes” the first Sunday of each month. Would highly recommend.
St John the Baptist Church in Old Malden is a truly special place at the heart of the community. With roots going back to Saxon times, it carries centuries of history while remaining welcoming, inclusive, and very much alive today.
The church has a wonderful atmosphere where everyone is made to feel valued and welcome, including people with disabilities. It is reassuring to see clear safeguarding and safety policies in place, creating a safe environment for children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
There is a strong focus on families and children, with engaging activities and events that help young people feel involved and supported. The sense of community across all generations is genuinely uplifting.
The music at St John’s is another highlight. The choir is excellent, and the organ music adds beauty and depth to the services, making worship especially moving and memorable.
A beautiful historic church that honours its ancient heritage while serving today’s community with care, inclusivity, and warmth.
Holy and prayerful place where worship has been offered for many hundreds of years.

So glad you enjoyed your visit. Please do come again soon.
Beautiful churchyard. Very old graves. This building dates back to Saxton times. The only downside is that the older graves at the back are very overgrown and unkempt. Though, this could be partly down to such uneven ground and stones so close together. I don't think that the church meeting folk were expecting me to be walking around the graveyard at 9pm 😂

Thank you for your feedback. We do try to maintain the graves, but you are right, the ground is very uneven. On remembrance Sunday we place crosses and flowers on all the war graves.

Thank you Shirley for your feedback. We are so lucky to be set in such a beautiful location.
We hear the bells of the church every Sunday morning loud and clear from our bedrooms. The church has a nice space for children to play in. The cemetery around it makes it somewhat spooky, but also reminds us of the ancestors who lived in this area. Around the church are some really nice areas for walk.
