Your response actually makes this worse for you.
You’re publicly accusing me of being dishonest about the engine hours while apparently not realizing that you just confirmed the entire point of my review: YOU were the broker, YOU controlled the closing, and YOU allowed the boat to leave before verifying the hours.
If you truly believed the hours were wrong, then congratulations—you just admitted that Southport Marine closed a six-figure transaction without verifying something you now claim was materially important.
That’s not the defense you think it is.
A competent broker would have verified the hours BEFORE closing and BEFORE releasing the boat. Had you done the most basic part of your job, there would have been no argument afterward about whether those hours existed before or after the buyer took possession.
But sure, blame the client three months later on Google. That’s certainly easier than admitting you completely botched the closing.
Thanks for replying, though. I genuinely couldn't have written a better response to prove my point.
If you are looking to sell your boat, stay far away from Southport Marine. Their complete failure to follow standard brokerage protocols directly cost me $5,000.
After listing my boat with them, they found a buyer. However, they held back $10,000 in escrow, supposedly until the buyer completed a routine sea trial and engine check. In an incredibly unprofessional move, the broker had us officially close the sale and allowed the buyer to tow the boat away to his house—hours away—before the sea trial or engine hours were ever verified.
By closing the deal and letting the asset leave the property without finalizing the inspection, the broker stripped away all my leverage and left me completely unprotected. Predictably, days later, the buyer claimed the engine hours were higher than stated and threatened to sue unless I gave up $5,000 of the escrow money.
Because Southport Marine was sloppy enough to close the deal and let the boat leave before verifying the hours on-site, I had no way to prove the buyer hadn't put those hours on the engine himself after taking it. Their amateur management and negligence cost me thousands. Take your business to professionals who actually know how to handle a closing and protect your money.

What cost you additional money is the fact that you were not truthful about the hours of n you engine. Which the buyer discovered.
We rented the Sea Pro 222 for a day on Casco Bay. It's a nicely set up center-console. Plenty of space for 3 adults and 2 kids. It's well equipped and perfect for getting around. Tyler and team were excellent - friendly, easy to deal with. Would happily rent from them again. Highly recommend!

We are glad you had a great time! Come back again soon. - Tyler
Tyler and Tyson were awesome. They even helped is get our large provisions order back to the marina with their boatyard truck.
Diesel fuel was also easy at the separate fuel dock. This marina gets a thumbs up

Unfortunately this marina is run by unskilled and unprofessional staff. They make errors and don’t acknowledge them, they don’t communicate with customers about their vessels, and they try and charge additional fees for any and every little thing they can without prior explanation to the charges. Customer beware.
Brought an old Mercury marine outboard here after I exhausted my own repair abilities. They did an outstanding job and I later noticed they fixed a few other issues with the engine I didn’t even ask about. Larry is the man. Great Mercury parts availability and prices too.

We needed a dock early in the season and the marina team was able to get us in at the end of March. Nice facilities. Great fish tank!

Hi Rob, thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear your experience didn’t meet expectations and would appreciate the opportunity to learn more about what went wrong. Please feel free to give us a call at 207-799-8191 at your convenience so we can address your concerns.
Do not bring your boat here. Just had a 100 hour service on a Suzuki 200 and they charged $1,902. When asked why it was so much they needed two people working on the boat at the same time doubling there $165/hour rates. I called around to other local marinas after the fact and they all charges half that price. Total rip off. Go elsewhere.

We appreciate your feedback and the opportunity to clarify. This service was much more involved than a standard 100-hour, which is why other marinas may have quoted less. The motor’s last service was at 20 hours, five years ago, and it had not received an oil change since. Because of this, the engine required a substantial amount of additional work due to lack of regular maintenance.
All work performed is detailed on the invoice, and nothing was completed without your approval. To clarify, there were never two technicians working on this job, as mentioned in your review.

My experience buying a boat and the service from Mike Samoisette at South Port Marine was bar none one of the best experiences I could have hoped for. Mike (and all at the marina) went above and beyond to help educate me about boat buying/ownership/maintenance etc. Mike and his team pulled off a very tight timeline for delivery of the boat and made sure it was done in the most professional manner. Many thanks to Mike and South Port Marine for a wonderful experience around this big occasion for me.

Thank you so much for your kind words, Brent! It's our goal to provide the best care and support for all our customers, and we're glad we could meet your expectations.
Gus did a great job moving our sailboat, and we look forward to having him move our boat in the spring. He is professional and talented.
I only write reviews when it’s 5 stars , I don’t enjoy writing negative reviews, however I feel the need to inform others, a very long story short I purchased a brand new boat from SP marine , I will keep it civil and simple , if you have options to purchase a boat they have , look elsewhere!! Maybe I was just unlucky, or maybe I just got them on an off day , I’d love to think that’s possible but afraid it is not , they simply don’t care about customers who spend 100,000$ plus , no communication terrible service dept ,sales team are wrapped up in the next big sale , zero accountability, the days of workmanship do not exist to the place all in all it is what it is and there is nothing I can do about the experience I had with Southport marine in ME and Danvers
