Southern Turf Company installed a 15x20 putting green in our backyard. The were the contractors for both Costco and Home Depot. We went with Costco. Estimates and project were handled by Aaron H.
Installation was relatively done well with the exception of undulation and breaks. I had to make sure the installers did not end up putting a flat surface.
Billing was problematic. After the initial deposit with a Costco payment, a stripe payment was requested for the final payment. I objected but it took a few days to find out that Costco only warranties and sells materials. Issue was resolved with escalation to Jason D.
About 3 weeks after installation a big roll of carpet had not been picked up. I followed up with 3 emails (once a week), a text and a call with Jason D. As of this posting the roll is still sitting at our house.
Additionally one of the 4 holes has been retaining water after rains. I have requested a warranty request (only option was to leave a voicemail). This is new and they will need some time to (hopefully) fix it.
Southern Turf Company does a decent job with installing artificial turf. Our putting green looks decent and I struggled to give them a low rating.
My rationale for a 1-star:
- Huge difference in response from pre-sales to installation
- Project Manager not briefing installers on what was agreed upon
- When requesting Costco invoice for final payment, very unpleasant interaction and need for escalation
- While waiting for Costco to confirm the mode for final payment multiple invoice indicating payment was due (invoice sent Saturday, due Monday)
- Unresponsive to request to pickup their turf (see attached picture)
There are several contractors who install artificial turf in the Austin area. The primary reason we went with Southern Turf Co. was that we would fall within the customer support of the Costco umbrella.
I do NOT believe this is a systemic issue and I am not surprised that Southern Turf Co. has good reviews. But my experience have been less than ideal.
