Annalise du Buisson I visited dr Jozef Kriek at the Somerset Eye Centre during 2025. He was very kind and took his time to went over the diagnosis and the treatment options. He explained everything in a way that was easy to understand and was clear in his advice and the risks. He is very knowledgeable. I was also very impressed by the people at the front desk. They treated me with so much love and respect and kindness. I will definitely recommend dr Kriek and his staff - look no further. You will not be disappointed with him and his wonderful staff.

On 22 January Dr Falletisch referred me to Dr Kriek when a regular scan for my problematic macula revealed a detached retina. Dr Kriek advised immediate surgery and I had an operation the same afternoon. He explained in detail what the surgery and aftercare would entail. As a result I had full confidence and complete trust going into the operation. With his timeous and excellent intervention he saved my eye. I always found both Dr Kriek and his staff professional, sympathetic and friendly. Whenever I had an appointment it felt like I was visiting friends, thanks to their genuine interest and concern. I am actually sorry that my visits have now come to an end. May the Lord bless him richly. Christa van Rensburg

I had retinal detachment in my right eye and some tears in my left eye at the beginning of Feb 2025. Dr Kriek's personnel assisted on an urgent basis to get me assessed and Dr Kriek came in on a Friday afternoon to do emergency retinal surgery. I have full sight in my right eye and despite having to undergo further laser treatment in my left eye (Luckily in the Somerset Eye Centre and not in theatre!), have recovered extremely well thanks to him. All my thanks to Dr Kriek and all his staff for their wonderful professional service - with a personal touch!

During my vacation in South Africa from the U.K., I had the misfortune, over the weekend, to suffer a detached retina. I was recommended to the Somerset Eye Centre and in particular Dr Jozef Kriek. From the moment I arrived in reception, on the Monday morning, the reception staff were very welcoming, helpful and professional. Dr Kriek, ably assisted by Kerry, assessed me and confirmed it was indeed a detached retina and explained very calmly, yet thoroughly what the problem was and how he would operate the following day to begin to restore my vision. I was scheduled for the operation on Tuesday and whilst a little anxious, who wouldn’t be? Was re-assured by all the support from the whole team. Very glad to say that the operation was successful and in the post operative review the next day. Dr Kriek said he was pleased with the outcome of the surgery, which was great news for me to hear. After running through a number of do’s and dont’s on my road to recovery, I am now set to return to the U.K. next week. For anyone else in my predicament, if I was asked to recommend a Retina Specialist to anyone needing treatment, I would have no hesitation in recommending Dr Jozef Kriek and his exceptional 5 star team.

If you're looking for an EXCELLENT ophthalmologist ,look no further. You're at the right place! I can honestly and comfortably recommend Dr Kriek. I was diagnosed with AS as a young man and I've had my fair share of medical challenges over the past 40 plus years .Problems with my vision unfortunately are part and parcel of what I've had to deal with for many years and being comfortable and at ease with your ophthalmologist and his team,is of utmost importance to me! At this practice ,treatment is really worth a 5-star rating . Friendly staff and everyone of them extremely helpful. I am writing this review on behalf of my mother in law, Mrs Helmine Claassen. After a serious fall, she was forced to had an eye operation done as she could have lost eye sight in her right eye. We were referred to Dr Kriek by Dr Colin Van Wyk (Optometrist). The operation was a huge success. The services offered by Dr Kriek and his personnel, from the beginning to the end, was just awesome. It’s very clear that Dr Kriek is simply a brilliant Opthalmologist and comes highly recommended !!!!!!

Wow! what an amazing experience. From blurry vision to perfect spectacle-free vision at the age of 76. From the first meeting I had total confidence in Dr Jozef Kriek who performed cataract operations on both my eyes. My lenses were very hard as I had postponed the op for too long. Also, during the op Dr Kriek found that I had a floppy iris. He managed these complications with superb skill and I was blissfully unaware until he told me afterwards. I also had 2 stitches which I would have been totally unaware of if he had not told me. I cannot praise Dr Jozef Kriek and his kind and patient assistant Kerry, and the extremely friendly, obliging and helpful receptionists Sonia and Cheryl, enough. Warm, friendly and caring Nurse Stacey while administering pre-op eyedrops put me at ease. Dr Jozef Kriek is an excellent opthamologist with a great team. Many thanks to you all. Heather Pilcher

What an absolutely amazing experience. My normal optician informed me that I had severe cataracts in both eyes and consequently referred me to Dr Jozef Kriek, a ophthalmologist based in Somerset West. Well right from my very first appointment and after an extensive eye examination, Dr Kriek explained in detail exactly what needed to be done and how the cataracts would be replaced by imported lenses. The procedure took place a few weeks later as special lenses were ordered from abroad. One eye was done and followed a week later with the other eye. The procedure was painless and the whole experience was smooth and the nurses and the anaesthetist were very professional. When the eye patch was removed my vision was truly incredible. I could see both far and mid rage with fantastic clarity. Colours and shapes were suddenly in focus. Best of all was that although Dr Kriek had advised me before the procedure that I might still need glasses for reading, this was not the case. My close vision was now as good as the distance and mid range. I cannot praise Dr Kriek and his backup staff enough. the entire team were world class.. My only regret was that did not have the procedure years ago, however, the wait was absolutely worth it. Ian Schietekat

Friendly, World class treatment I had my eyes tested in the Netherlands for Lasik surgery but was put off by lack of friendliness or personal attention, given inherent risks of the surgery. After exchanging emails from abroad I booked an appointment during my holiday and was greeted with amazing care and attitude. After two appointments of measuring they had the same surgery recommendation, and it was 2/3 of the price. I can't recommend this Eye clinic enough if you are considering Lasik surgery. I am still in the recovery stage but on day 2 I could already see as well if not better than I did with glasses. Thank you Dr Beatty, Monique and the rest of the lovely staff.

I found Dr. Josef Kriek lll highly professional including all his staff that are employed by him. He, including his assistant were extremely thorough in their assessments prior and post surgery and I always felt relaxed and well informed. My cataract surgery ( left and right eye done one week apart from each other ) was done at Cure Day Hospital which is very conveniently situated close to Dr. Kriek's rooms, in the same building and all the staff there were extremely professional and very friendly and I would not hesitate to recommend them to all my friends and relatives. Overall, if I was to give my experience a rating I would definately give it a 5 star. Thank you to Dr. Kriek for choosing ophthalmogy as his career which has for me, personally, resulted in much improved eye sight.

My experience from the consultation to cataract removals and insertions of new lenses was phenomenal! His Assistant Kerry, explained in great detail using a model of an eye for me to understand exactly what a cataract operation entailed. It was a revelation to me of how perfectly and wonderfully God had created us! She was extremely kind and gentle and patient and answered all my questions. After she examined and put drops in my eyes I had a scan and then Dr Jozef Kriek also did a more in-depth view of the inside of my eyes similar to what an optometrist would do when one went to him. I found Dr Kriek also informative and kind and did not rush things but explained in detail all I questioned him on. The frontline office staff too were top division Cheryl and Sonia I commend them too for the fine way they helped with all my queries and helped me when I .phoned or queried accounts or anything and reassured me that they would always be available if I needed to know anything! He staff at Cure Day Hospital too was outstanding from the beginning. I could sense that I was in good hands and could relax. They put in drops to numb my eye (Stacey -bless her Soul) and everyone else specially on the op days were so friendly and happy, I felt like I was some famous person getting 5-Star treatment! I did not have any pain after the operations which take between 15-30 minutes. Then to cap it off I was given a cappucino and a toasted cheese and tomato sandwich ! I highly recommend Dr Kriek at Somerset Eye Clinic and Cure Hospital and his amazing team of God given staff!

I had my eye-laser Op done on October the 1st, 2024 after 2 thorough check-ups and discussions. I was quite anxious that morning of the Op, but when I saw the Ophthalmologist, Dr Beatty, I was greeted with the biggest smile ever. I am sure if he didn't have ears, that smile would have gone right around his head. His greeting alone, immediately put me at ease and I knew I would receive the best care. The Optometrist who assisted during my check-up, is such a lovely human being. Thank you to each and every one who helped making this experience a super fantastic one. Much Love. Elise Titus
