The club itself is nice, it is a cozy jazz-bar vibe. We were charged $25 per person for the musicians, which is fine and totally understandable for live jazz. What wasn’t okay is that no one told us the performance was ending in about 9 minutes when we arrived. By the time we managed to find a sit and settled in, the show was over. When I asked the staff why this wasn’t mentioned upfront, she answered "you gotta make the most of it,” which felt dismissive and unprofessional. Transparency would have gone a long way. We felt taken advantage of and the experience was just frustrating.
if you have any sense you HAVE to stop by Smalls. Ask for Theo, he is the best bartender I ever had the privilege to meet, excellent at what he does and the kindest soul I have ever met. The music ia brilliant, if you want to hear jazz done beautifully come here but really also come for a wonderful experience with the best bartenders in New York, thank you Theo x x
