What a special day Matt had planned for you and I'm very happy to hear you enjoyed yourselves on tour with Small Batch. While our shared tours can have up to six passengers onboard, you were especially lucky to be the only two on tour that day. Where other operators would normally cancel on you at the last minute, we give our guests a surprise private experience. Thanks so much for taking the time to write a fab review.

Thank you for your kind comments about what my knowledge and passion brought to the day, and I’m pleased that you enjoyed the winery experiences.

The experience in question was a premium shared-group tour in McLaren Vale, not a bespoke private tour.

Your day started at Yangarra Estate, one of Australia's most highly regarded wineries, with an exclusive back of house tour before opening. This is not something that is offered to the general public, and only via special arrangement by Small Batch Wine Tours. Your host poured for you the entire suite of seven Single Block wines, which range in price from $65 to $300, along with a freshly bottled 2026 Picpoul that is yet to be released.

Your lunch menu on the day consisted of House Made Focaccia with local olive oil and house made balsamic vinegar; Cured Kingfish with Horseradish Mayonnaise and Tarragon Pickled Ginger; Pork Belly Bites with Kohlrabi Remoulade, Capers, and Dill; 18-hour Slow-Cooked Wagyu Brisket with Corn and Blackbean Salsa, Onion Jam, and Meredith Goats Cheese; and Beef Tallow Roasted Kipfler Potatoes with Sumac Salt.

I’m sorry that the lunch did not meet your expectations. This was our premium shared-group tour, limited to a maximum of six guests, and the included seasonal chef’s-selection lunch is served sharing-style to the table rather than as individually selected main courses.

Sharing-style menus are common across many of South Australia’s premium dining experiences, including some of the most exclusive private experiences we offer. The menu is designed to provide a generous selection of seasonal dishes while maintaining a comfortable balance for an afternoon of premium wine tasting. However, I appreciate that preferred dining styles and perceptions of quality and portion size are personal, and clearly the meal did not feel sufficiently generous to you.

It was my understanding during the day that your group had enjoyed the lunch, so I contacted you privately after reading your review to better understand whether your concern was the quantity, the shared dining format or the way the experience had been described before booking.

Your feedback has prompted us to review our wording to ensure the sharing-style lunch format is especially clear to future guests. We always aim to under-promise and over-deliver, and I’m sorry that the dining component did not meet the expectations you had for the day.
