Update 2026: The advanced program took me to a different level of confidence and implementation. Both courses are worth every penny. IF only more districts would start from Kinder using such a program, schools would truly be able to see which students will most likely need to more intensive supports through special education before 3rd grade.
This program and training are the skills and content teacher preparation programs should be including!

SLANT is a very thorough approach to teaching decoding, encoding, word study, writing, comprehension and more! Students respond well to the lessons. My trainer and coach were both fabulous and supportive!

My district provided professional development from Slant and it was one of the best PD's I've taken. It gives a whole new perspective of structured literacy that I was able to use with my resource (special education) students. Their growth throughout the year of Slant implementation has been incredible. Slant can appear to be a lot of work, but it is all worth it!

Being a special education teacher, it is incredibly rewarding to witness the amount of growth that students with identified disabilities can achieve when they are given the right instruction and support. In the past, our school—and many of our students—were often seen as making very little or even no measurable progress, which could be discouraging for both educators and learners. However, with the introduction of the Slant System, that perception has completely shifted.
Instead of uncertainty and inconsistency, students now experience a clear and structured learning path. They understand the steps of the process, which removes a great deal of the anxiety that often comes with reading and writing tasks. Because the expectations are predictable and the instruction is systematic, students are able to focus on learning rather than trying to figure out what to do next.
One of the most powerful changes we have seen is in student confidence. As they become more successful, they begin to believe in their own abilities. Many students who previously avoided reading or writing tasks are now more willing to participate and even take pride in their work. They enjoy the structure, they appreciate knowing what comes next, and they feel a sense of accomplishment as they progress through each stage.
Overall, the Slant System has transformed the learning environment. What was once an area of frustration has become one of growth, excitement, and achievement. Students are not only making academic gains, but they are also developing confidence and a more positive attitude toward learning, which is just as important as the skills themselves.

I can’t recommend the SLANT System enough! It’s been so helpful seeing my students thrive this school year thanks to their systematic approach to reading. The Slant System is great! I love how clearly the instructions are written and how the system works with me, the instructor, to produce sharing results. I needed help downloading at the beginning, because I am not very tech savvy, and the customer service was outstanding. So very happy I chose this program. My students are very happy as well!
Some of my students come in significantly below grade level and often lack confidence in their reading abilities. SLANT has provided the structure, repetition, and explicit instruction they truly need to build foundational skills.
What I appreciate most is how systematic and accessible the program is. The focus on phonics and morphology gives students the tools to actually figure out words instead of guessing. I’ve watched students who used to shut down when faced with reading begin to take risks, apply strategies, and experience success.
SLANT is helping my students rebuild their confidence. They are starting to see themselves as capable readers, which is something that goes far beyond the classroom.

I highly recommend this program to anyone who teaches struggling readers, especially students with dyslexia.
