I recently purchased 19 plantation shutters from Shutters by Rae and am offering this review in the hope that it will benefit others considering a similar purchase. Prior to contacting Donna Rae Capito, I had seen her ad in the local 908 magazine and had also seen her “Shutters by Rae” SUV parked in her driveway while walking my dog to a nearby park. Since I’ve always been a proponent of supporting local home-grown businesses, I decided to contact Donna so I texted her on a Sunday afternoon and was not expecting a reply until the next business day; however, she responded within an hour and was at my house the next day to do some reconnaissance prior to preparing an estimate.
Initially, I was only planning on purchasing a dozen shutters; however, upon receiving Donna’s quote, I found the cost to be much lower than anticipated (in comparison with per square foot shutter cost information readily available on the internet). So, I decided to add another six shutters and a bi-fold closet door to the order. I opted to purchase domestically produced shutters so they were ready to install in two weeks, with the exception of a custom-made octagonal window shutter, which took an extra couple weeks to produce and install.
Prior to placing my order, I asked Donna for references. She provided four references. I contacted all four and was able to reach three of them, each of whom provided glowing references for Donna’s company.
Eighteen of the 19 shutters were installed in a single day with the octagonal shutter being installed a couple of weeks later. The installation process went smoothly although there was a bit of a hiccup with the clean-up (while all my prior window coverings including drapes and mini-blinds were removed from my house and disposed of per my directions, several pieces of small hardware were left behind for me to dispose). When I brought this to Donna’s attention, she immediately offered to send her installer back to remove the hardware left behind or issue a credit to my account. I chose the latter.
Throughout the whole process, from my initial contact on a Sunday afternoon until project completion, Donna was in constant contact with me via text and/or phone, always keeping me up-to-date on the status of my order and the pending installation (even when she was on a brief vacation). As a small businessperson myself, I truly appreciate Donna’s responsiveness. Good communication is the most important aspect of any business, and Donna excels at it.
I have been very happy with the high quality shutters Donna provided and highly recommend you give Donna a chance to meet your needs if you’re in the market for some new shutters. You won’t be disappointed.

I had three vendors come out to my home to provide me with estimates for shutters & installation. It was easy to choose which vendor I wanted to do business with. Donna from Shutters by Rae by far had the best customer service & knowledge of shutters & the installation. She didn't pressure me for a sale or give me any deadlines. She explained to me how to get the best price with options that she provided. She kept me updated with my order. Her installation team were outstanding! They were on time, professional and kind. I had more than 20 shutters installed: including a sliding glass door window shutter and an extra large window shutter. The installation was complete in less than 7 hours.
