We have been with this pet insurer for many years; however, our recent experience has been quite disappointing. Our premiums have increased significantly over time, with the most recent being an increase of 23% in one year. This level of increase is difficult to justify, particularly for long standing customers, and the premium will only continue to rise even further. We attempted to adjust our excess to reduce the premium, but were advised that due to our dog being over 9 years of age, no changes can be made to our existing Gold cover. The only alternative offered was to downgrade to a lower level of cover, which would exclude a number of illnesses, many of which are more likely to occur in senior dogs. This leaves us either to continue paying a substantially high premium or accept reduced coverage at a time when comprehensive protection is most important. For comparison, we had another dog insured with Medibank Pet Insurance up until 14 years of age and did not experience premium increases of this magnitude, despite making two claims for spinal surgery due to IVDD, nor did we experience the same level of inflexibility in adjusting the policy! Overall, we had expected greater flexibility and support after years of loyalty. Unfortunately, our experience has not met those expectations. We should have insured this dog with Medibank instead!

Our 2 year old mini bull terrier was diagnosed with arthritis in both front elbows at a routine vet appointment. A week later he had a CT and the following week surgery. We can't thank Pet Insurance Australia enough for making the process so easy during a stressful time. Now we can focus on his recovery and long term maintenance of his condition.

Amazing, Amazing, Amazing. I have been with PIA for almost 8 years and I can not recommend them enough! Customer service is so helpful, especially during stressful situations, their Customer Portal is easy to use and now their No Gap at my local Vet makes it even easier. Their prices are super affordable and discounts are included with multiple pets. I no longer worry about emergency or necessary care costs for my two pooches. I wasn’t sure at first whether I needed pet insurance for my Burmese girl, Kiki. For a long time, I wondered whether I needed to be spending the money on insurance as I never used it or made a claim. In October last year, Kiki was diagnosed with an aggressive form of gastric lymphoma which came as a big shock. In partnership with my vet, Pet Insurance Australia made the decision to proceed with ultrasound, endoscopy, pathology, and subsequently, chemotherapy, an easy one. PIA covered 80% of nearly all of my vet and hospital expenses and I couldn’t be more grateful to have this burden taken care of. It made decisions for her treatment and welfare easy. Initially, Kiki responded extremely well to treatment, however we recently hit a couple of bumps, and with some complications, it means that she is unfortunately no longer with us. Thank you PIA for helping us do all we could do for our beautiful girl, whilst always putting her happiness and wellbeing first. The professionality of their caring customer service, and speedy management of claims, helped exponentially. A special mention to Rod for being so helpful and considerate in finalising the policy during difficult times of sadness. Thank you again for your kindness. If you are considering pet insurance for your loved one, PIA is an excellent and reliable choice.

At Christmas time my beloved Vizsla became very ill and had to undergo CT Scan and Chest surgery. My specialist Vet team would contact PIA direct for pre approval with these costs (approx $22000). I would then receive an email showing the Vets estimated cost, estimated benefit from PIA then estimated Gap amount which I had to pay. It is an excellent experience and the process was stress free. After the operations and fees paid I would then receive a complete statement displaying the amounts that were charged by the Vet and the amount paid by PIA. I would highly recommend the 80% Cover. I have had the insurance since my Vizsla was 6 months old (now 10) and it clearly is the best decision I have made.

have been with pia for a number of years and very happy with them and i highly recommend them- when submitting a claim it is processed very quickly the only downside is as my dogs are getting older the premiums are getting very expensive

Great pet insurance company. Easy to submit claims either by sending vet consultation notes and invoice or by the vet doing this for you. Get regular notification of the claims as they are ongoing. Get clear and concise information about the claim once it has been approved. They pay out what you are insured for, ie I am insured for 80% and received back 80% almost exactly of the vet bill. Would not hesitate to recommend them.
