The flavors and the food were delicious. You can tell they use fresh and unique ingredients. The chefs story was intriguing and it was interesting to hear their story. The pasta was fresh and tasty. Their wood fire grill is the only of its kind on Long Island and gives the meat a distinctive flavor. Our waitress took great care of us and was very attentive. Although it was slightly pricey, we would definitely come back!
What a amazing experience for my birthday. The restaurant ambiance was inviting, cozy and relaxing.. The vibe was really live on Saturday. We booked a reservation early that day. Our waiter John was attentive and helpful on specials and drinks. The owner/manager greeted all the tables and was sincere and always smiling. I love looking at reviews before trying a restaurant. I have to say this restaurant was "Perfection". Our Wegyu, black truffle Spaghetti, old fashioned cocktail, pistachio gelato was simply delicious. Please support our local restaurants.
Thank You,
Osteria Umbra for making my birthday special.
We recently made a reservation at Osteria Umbra for a group of 15 people to celebrate a friend’s birthday, and unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing.
At no point during the reservation process were we informed that there would be a strict two-hour time limit for large groups. Once we arrived, we felt constantly rushed by the staff and were repeatedly reminded to finish quickly and leave. This created a very uncomfortable atmosphere and made it impossible for us to relax and enjoy our meal or celebrate properly.
Because of the constant pressure, we couldn’t enjoy the food, and we didn’t even get the chance to have coffee or dessert. Despite this, we received a very high bill, which made the whole situation even more frustrating.
Overall, what was supposed to be a special birthday celebration turned into a stressful and unpleasant experience. We left feeling very disappointed. Clear communication and better treatment of guests—especially large parties—would make a big difference.
Excellent experience, for any occasion. The food is identical italian, very good delicious. The menu and the specials are amazing, i had the Gamberoni Rossi tarta from sicily delicious. The pappardelle with cream of truffel very good......the staff is very helpful and professional. I racommend it 100%.
Just visited Osteria Umbra yesterday evening for the 2nd time. This place has quickly become my favorite Italian restaurant on Long Island. The quality of the food is extraordinary, and the service/wait staff is second-to-none. Both times I visited, everyone in my group had a truly exceptional evening. From the moment you walk in the front door through the completion of dessert, this place provides first class service. The Black Truffle Taglierini in the Parmesan cheese wheel is a must try and delightful experience. The Australian Wagyu Tomahawk was absolutely delicious and well worth the order. The Italian Cheesecake is homemade, and is the best I have ever had. If you have the opportunity, make a visit and give this place a try. You won't regret it!
Food:
Osteria Umbra was exceptional. The house-made taglierini was the standout. Having it worked in the Parmigiano Reggiano wheel first and then finished with black truffle from Umbria made it feel special without turning it into all presentation. The pasta itself was excellent, with the right bite, and the cheese and truffle gave it richness and depth without making it too heavy. The dry-aged steak was just as impressive. It had the kind of flavor and tenderness that immediately tells you the kitchen takes that side of the menu seriously too. What I liked most is that both dishes felt fully thought through. Nothing felt like it was leaning on gimmick or hype. It was just very high-level Italian food made with real care.
Everything here is exceptional.
Service:
The staff was incredible, especially Charles. Warm, attentive, and genuinely good at making the whole meal feel smooth without hovering. That kind of service adds a lot, and here it absolutely did.
Summary:
Easy 5/5. This felt like a full restaurant experience, not just one great dish, and it is some of the best Italian food I’ve had.
I literally only came here for the Giant cheese wheel and the pasta :-D That was delicious! The Chianti Glass of wine was also great. I had the veal chop. My son had the New York Strip. Then I had the pistachio Gelato. My son tried the cannoli's. Everything was so good to eat. There’s just one thing that was a bit off. The woman that took us and sat us at our table. Her vibe was off. Is hard to explain. But other than that everything else was amazing!
We just celebrated my brother’s 30th birthday at Osteria Umbra, and it was truly an unforgettable experience from start to finish. It was a surprise party for 15 people (his absolute favorite restaurant), and the entire night exceeded every expectation we had.
The level of service we received was nothing short of incredible. Our main server, John, was absolutely out of this world. Not only was he attentive and on top of everything all night long, but he also took the time to share background and knowledge about the restaurant and each dish we were enjoying. That combination of service, passion, and education made the entire experience feel so elevated and special. Anything we needed, he was there immediately—he truly made us feel taken care of the entire evening.
His assistant, Charles, was just as amazing—so attentive, kind, and dedicated to making sure we had the best possible time.
And the food… absolutely phenomenal. Huge credit to Chef Marco—there are honestly no words. We opted for a family-style setup with multiple appetizers, salads, entrées, and desserts. I was a little skeptical at first, but it ended up being the BEST decision. We got to try so many different dishes—way more than you normally would—and there was not a single thing I didn’t love. Every bite was incredible.
Between the outstanding service, the amazing food, and the overall experience, I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. If you go, definitely request John—you will not regret it!
Honestly was not impressed for the price. $200 for a small rib eye. We got the pasta in the cheese wheel and it tasted good. Overall it was over $800 after tip and underwhelming. The food was okay the price was over inflated. We have no problem paying $200+ for a steak clearly but it was tiny. Not worth it and this was my second time there. Only one person was drinking so we did were shocked at the bill. Again we eat out regularly at some of the top restaurants as a family of 5 this was insanely overrated & overpriced. To top it off I was walking out with a stroller two staff members were watching me struggle with the door because it’s so tiny. You would think that after what we spent, they would hold the door open.
I chose to celebrate my birthday here on February 8 and had the pleasure of having Victoria as our server. She couldn’t have been more patience and kind with my very energetic toddler as well as give us great customer service. The food was great as well. I highly suggest visiting this location. It was not my first time and I will definitely be back
