The space inside is beautiful and the service was really caring! I had their carbonara (and they were kind enough to throw in some mushrooms to satisfy my craving :)) which was delicious. Finished with a pistachio ice cream and a cappuccino looking at the city skyline view for a couple of hrs because of how cozy it was.
Amazing experience at Osteria. The food was incredible, authentic, and full of flavor from start to finish. The pasta was fresh, the ambiance felt elegant but still cozy, and the service made the whole night even better. Perfect place for a date night, girls dinner, or just treating yourself to a beautiful meal in the city. Definitely a spot Iâll be coming back to!
Nice space. The owner has to be from Sardinia, given that so many wines are imported from this island.
We had Mandrolisai '100 Kent Annos' red wine from the region in Sardinia called Mandrolisai. The grape variety is cannonau, it is an indigenous grape from Sardinia. Plenty of smoke, cedar, and dried fruits with a burnt orange undertone. Full body, chewy tannins, and a medium finish. A little drying at the end of the palate. A little bit too acidic for my taste, this wine is hard to find in New York City restaurants.
For our appetizer, we shared a freshly made crisp and juicy apple/tomato/cucumber/arugula and feta cheese salad.
For our main course, we had oven-baked pizza with prosciutto and tomatoes, and chicken parmigiana. I didn't like it when they brought me roasted potatoes instead of spaghetti (I had asked for a substitution), because the potatoes were cold, chewy, and pre-made.
Apple pudding for our dessert wasn't to our taste.
If you visit this restaurant, ask for their Sardinian artesian bottled still or sparkling water, imported from Italy, called Smeraldina.
The bar itself could use a cleaning, and the restrooms are ok.
The service was decent, no more than that. Although I have to say that the guy with the hat recommended a good wine.
Quality in food, service, overall experience past few years since they opened has gone WAY DOWN. Ingredients are expertly sourced, but thatâs it. Owner Rafaelle needs to seriously step up his staff training. Staff is messy, SLOW, barely speaks English. Space is messy & disorganized; poor attn to detail. Food used to be authentic. Now, one can tell, chef is not Italian; lots of mistakes. Skip it!
Extremely disappointing experience and horrible service.
After moving just down the block about 6 months ago, my girlfriend and I have been really excited to try this restaurant given its beautiful location. If i could rate it on just the location, vibes, and honestly the food / drink taste, this would be a 4 or 5 star. However, the pace of service and the attitude i received brings this down a 1 star or 0 if i could give a zero. Essentially we waited 2 hours for our food and was asked to tip 20% while getting attitude from the waiters for asking them to check on our order (had to ask to check on each item we ordered).
The place was about 60% full when we arrive Sunday evening at 6:15pm and we ordered promptly. We ordered 1 drink, 1 pizza, and 1 pasta. By 6:40, I went to go ask if our drink was going to come around. They said they would check and the drink finally came at 6:50pm. We then waiting another 20 minutes for our food but nothing. I went up to the waiter to ask if he could help check on our food and he never looked at me and waited about 5 seconds before saying that heâll check. It felt like he was annoyed by the fact that i was asking but maybe Iâm just guessing here. I was very uncomfortable. Finally our pizza comes out about 5 minutes later at 7:15pm. We finish our pizza and was waiting for our pasta but at this point, we thought it was better to just leave to go somewhere else but i thought we should check one last time. I go in to ask about our pasta this time and they said itâs going o come out in 2 minutes. It actually does come out and by this time itâs 7:40pm (i am checking my photo time stamps). We finish it quickly by 7:55 and I just go up to the cashier to ask for the check. They canât find my check for about 3 minutes and finally when they give it to me, they automatically applied 20% tip on the receipt. This was extremely upsetting to me since they never wrote that anywhere and itâs especially odd for a group of 2 and for, candidly, bad service. They ended up giving me a receipt where i can put in my own tip and i gave 15%, which i think is fair given our experience. I appreciated that. The oddest thing was that there were more people coming in at 8pm asking for a table they kept telling people that theyâre full even though you can clearly see that there are some tables empty.
At the end of the day, this was truly disappointing because this place has a lot of potential to become a great restaurant. I am really hoping i can find a reason to come back again but I donât think i will.
With the location and scenery, youâd think this place would have impeccable Italian food. Well, you thought wrong. The ambience was nice and definitely fit the vibe, but unfortunately the food and service did not compare.
I unfortunately didnât get my waitressâs name, but she had braces and was constantly sucking her teeth whenever we asked a question about the menu. Every simple question was met with attitude and disrespect. If you work in hospitality, customers shouldnât feel like asking for help is a punishment.
But okay, we thought at least the food would make up for it. Wrong again. The pizza was honestly disgusting. It tasted overly processed and nowhere near fresh. Definitely not what youâd expect from a place trying to present itself as good Italian food.
To put the service into perspective, Iâve genuinely been treated better in fast food restaurants. Everything took forever, and the service moved at a glacial pace. We only stayed because we were starving, but I noticed multiple people leaving because of how ridiculously glacial paced the service was and how unpleasant the experience was.
Tonight I visited Osteria Brooklyn in Long Island City with my 13-year-old goddaughter, and overall we had a nice experience. From the moment we walked in, the service was excellent. The staff greeted us warmly, checked on us throughout dinner, and made us feel welcomed.
Now for the food reviewâŠ
Iâm a huge beet salad person, and unfortunately the beet salad was disappointing for me. The combination of tomatoes with the beets just didnât work, and the flavors felt off compared to other beet salads Iâve had.
We also ordered the octopus and requested it grilled, but it arrived with a sauce underneath that we personally didnât enjoy. The dish just wasnât what we expected.
If youâve been there before, youâll probably notice the food has changed a lot since the name change. The menu and flavors feel different now, and not necessarily in the best way.
âïž Overall rating: 3 out of 5 stars
Would we come back? Yes â mainly because the service was truly great, the atmosphere was nice, and the location in LIC near the waterfront is beautiful
The absolute worst experience Iâve had in more than 15 years of living in NYC.
We had a 7:45 p.m. reservation, arrived on time, and asked to be seated outside. The owner pointed to a dirty table and said, âThatâs yours. Wait while we clean it.â There was another table right next to it that was already clean and set up, but apparently, since we arenât friends with the owner, we werenât privileged enough to sit there. We were left in limbo for about 10 minutes until someone finally came to clean the table. We sat down and tried to chalk up the bumpy start to a busy night and the restaurant maybe not having enough staff on hand.
Our server, Claudio, took our drink order â iced tea, a beer, and an Aperol spritz â and then disappeared for a good 20 minutes. He came back without our drinks and barked at us, asking if we wanted to put in our food order. We reminded him that we were still waiting for our drinks, but in the spirit of amicability and efficiency, we put in our food order while he was there. Claudio then came back TWICE, saying he couldnât read his own handwriting and needed to confirm our items. Still NO drinks. Our appetizers arrived. Still NO drinks. The water that was there when we first sat down was finished by then, and it would remain empty for the rest of the night, since our server apparently had no interest in refilling it.
Our first pizza arrived at the table. It was more of a margherita flatbread than something that should ever be called pizza in NYC, but at least it was edible, and we were all starving. Our second pizza arrived, and it was completely wrong. It didnât match the description at all, and it had meat on it, even though we had clarified multiple times that it needed to be vegetarian. We sent it back to be fixed, and five minutes later it returned with the prosciutto simply picked off the top instead of being refired. And it STILL wasnât the pizza we had actually ordered.
I had to find a menu and show Claudio the actual pizza we ordered before he finally agreed it was a mistake. He claimed it was because there are two pizzas with the same name on the menu. WHAT?? I didnât see this supposed second same-named pizza, but given what I observed about the management here, I can completely believe they would name different menu items the same thing as part of some weird torture experiment on their customers.
At this point, our friend, who has severe food allergies, was getting very nervous. We had asked whether there was egg in the pasta dish she ordered, but given Claudioâs lack of command and knowledge of his own menu, we were worried he simply had no real idea. When the pasta arrived, we asked him to please go to the chef and confirm that there was no egg in the dish. I very clearly saw Claudio walk inside to the host stand, then come back out and claim he had asked the chef. By then, we were two hours into this ordeal and just wanted the check so we could leave with our health, our sanity, and the last shred of grace we had managed to preserve
What really takes the cake is that while all of this was going on, the owner was standing directly behind our table flirting with a woman seated nearby. He had no desire to try to rectify the mess his server had made. No inclination to speak with us or address our very real allergy concerns. Just giggling away with some girl 30 years his junior. At some point, very much AFTER we had paid the check, he finally walked over with a token apology about a âsmall mix-up.â Then he started bragging about the many restaurants heâs opened in his life. Buddy, you probably keep having to open new ones because they keep going out of business with the way you manage things.
Bottom line: If you have dietary restrictions, allergy concerns, want a pleasant experience, or expect more than one glass of water â STAY AWAY.
Amazing experience from start to finish. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was beautiful, and the service truly made the difference.
A special thank you to Eugenia, who was incredibly attentive, professional, and welcoming throughout the entire evening. She made us feel genuinely taken care of and added such a warm touch to the experience. Itâs rare to find service that feels both polished and authentic at the same time.
Highly recommend this restaurant, and if you have Eugenia as your server, youâre in great hands!
