☺Great host - We had fresh home baked bread, jams, cereals, milk and orange juice and good coffee.

Beautiful flat in a great location.
☺The flat is beautifully presented, very comfortable and located within 5 mins walk to the main street in Kirby Stephen which has some great shops, pubs and eateries. There are loads of leaflets with information about the surrounding area and the flat info is very comprehensive.

The best stay we’ve had in airbnb family travels! We stayed at Middy Boots for 2 nights during our 14day Coast to Coast walk, and it was exactly the kind of place we needed after long days on the trail.
Everything was incredibly well thought out. The parking area is spacious and convenient, and moving our luggage in and out was effortless. Check in was completely smooth. And Kirkby Stephen itself is such a lovely little town, with charming streets, independent shops and a beautiful historic church, making it a wonderful base for the Coast to Coast.
But what really made our stay special were the hosts, Fei and Chris. They had already provided so much useful information through their blog and Airbnb, and whenever I had questions about the area, they took the time to write us detailed and thoughtful replies. And house itself, i had no question at all as the moment we walked through the door, it felt like coming home.
The house was spotlessly clean. you can immediately tell how much care they put into maintaining it, even from the impressive collection of cleaning supplies available. The shower had hot water instantly, the toiletries smelled wonderful, and the house could be warmed up to exactly the temperature we wanted. The kitchen was exceptionally well equipped, and the fruit, breakfast items and snacks were such a lovely touch. These little details made us genuinely feel the warmth and generosity of the hosts.
And after walking for hours each day, having a really comfortable bed where we could sleep for as long as we needed was absolutely priceless.
Muddy Boots-Scarpa wasn’t simply a place to stay for us. It was a place where we could truly rest, recharge and feel looked after during a demanding walking journey.
Fei and Chris have clearly put so much thought, care and love into creating this home, and it shows in every detail. If you’re walking the Coast to Coast, I honestly cannot recommend this place highly enough. We would happily stay here again even if we weren’t walking the route.

The owners have a lovely property but need to point out it is over 3 floors, it’s a shame about the outside space but th
☺Could not fault the attention to detail of everything you would need for a short stay. Also the decoration is fabulous.
☹Did not like the stairs, too many over 3 floors. Also the outside space was really spoiled by the dustbins in close proximity to the seated area, the bakery window next door was also giving off strong smells of greasy food.

The stairs are designated in the Booking profile and as such assumed since Booking specifically asks us to state how many floors in the property, which is 3 floors. That would obviously translate to 2 flights of stairs. So it’s curious that you would state it “too many stairs” to cater for 3 floors. Additionally, there are pictures of the stairwells, both of them, in our picture gallery. I’d have to guess you did not take note.
The “dustbins” are in fact recycling bins and are a fact of life for residential properties in close proximity to the main business district/street, as we are. If you are affronted by that, perhaps you should not choose a property that is located so close to commercial premises who must put their recycling and bins somewhere. Our location is not a hidden secret and can be easily discerned from the description and by looking at Google Maps.
The “bakery window next door was giving off strong smells” is in fact the Mulberry Bush Café, one of the favoured cafés in town, which again, you’d be able to see by taking 5 seconds to view our location. A hint for you in future when choosing a holiday stay… when you read a description like ours that says:
“Centrally located nestled behind the main street of Kirkby Stephen in a quiet back street. Just a second’s stroll from the bustling Market Square and main commercial heart of the town along Market Street”
Just DON’T choose it !!
It would be like choosing a place beside a refuse tip because it had great views and seclusion, then complaining about the smell and machinery noise.
Scoring us 7.5 for LOCATION is simply a reflection of your lack of research when choosing a stay.
You’ve also scored guys 7.5 on Cleanliness but did not include any reasons why. Since we’ve been a perfect 10 until your review on Booking and 5 Stars on Airbnb, we find this rather odd and are unable to discern what the problem was and are therefore unable to offer any explanation or amend our cleaning routine. Our only outcome given the peculiarity of your review was that this was something very particular to you.
Would strongly recommend you brush up on your research skills, it will aid your choices going forward.
