I had a pretty uncomfortable incident this last Saturday and I feel like I have to share.
Saturday my oldest daughter was having her First Holy Communion. This is a day to celebrate. A step up for my daughter in her childhood and faith that should have been happy. I wanted her hair to be perfect and as I'm all thumbs with hair styles I decided to take her to Love Salon on Street Rd in Southampton. I've been there many times. Through 2 pregnancies, First hair cuts with my girls and many services myself, I had confidence in every stylist they hire and didn’t bat an eye asking for anyone available. BOY, WAS I WRONG. When we entered we had the usual nice smiles and warm greetings. Our Stylist was Liora and seemed nice enough, asking what we wanted and taking us upstairs. I let her know, as a courtesy, that my daughter had ADHD and some sensory sensitivity when it came to her hair. The stylist was pulled away for another client, which I felt a little off about as we had limited time built into the appointment, but let it go. Places get busy, I'm pretty flexible. When she came back another woman followed her up and immediately everything felt off. This woman didn't introduce herself but started asking me about my daughter's " sensitivity " stating my stylist 'had another appointment right behind ours and wouldn't be able to run late' I was so confused. Who had delayed the appointment so far besides the stylist herself by walking downstairs and then this woman I didn't know grilling me about time? I said I didn’t think it would be a problem since we just wanted a simple up do. I didnt ask for a wash or blow dry. I didn’t ask for an intricate design, just something up that wouldn't move too much. All of this, mind you, was in front of my daughter. She's 8, she hears everything and the way she was being presented as a problem right off the bat set the rest of the appointment. This woman suggested I brush my daughter's hair right then instead of Liora even trying. When I finally asked her to leave because she was arguing with me she leaned close to the stylist and said loud enough for me to hear, " I'll just come get you if it gets close" then gave me a dirty look and left. After that every time my daughter flinched even a little Liora gave me a look in the mirror as if it were such an ordeal. Having a child special needs, even as mild as my daughter's, is a challenge every day. These two women turned what should have been a special experience into something mortifying and for that I got to pay $70.
We ended 15 minutes early, by the way. Not overtime at all.
Never again.
6 years of history and I will never set foot in this salon again.
Do better
