Kit Campers are great - Cherine and the team provided prompt and detailed information throughout booking and pick-up/drop-off processes. Excellent customer service. The vans themselves are expertly fitted and the instructions provided were easy to navigate. The solar PV and battery combination worked really well for remote camping. Great value for money in comparison to other campervans I have used in NZ. Highly recommended.
We booked the wrong date, but Kit Campers kindly refunded us even though it was our mistake — such great customer service! The campervan layout was super practical and well thought out, making it easy to keep everything organized throughout our South Island adventure. Cherine was amazing, always quick to respond to our questions no matter the time of day. Honestly, the best bang-for-buck campervan we found in NZ. They even have a great option to pick up the van after hours. Highly recommend!
I recently rented a campervan (Little Kit) from Kit Campers and the experience absolutely exceeded my expectations!
From handling my booking to giving me a full tour of the van at pickup, Cherine was incredibly friendly, caring, and went out of her way to make sure I had everything I needed before hitting the road. She even reached out during my trip to check that everything was going smoothly, which really showed her care and attention. Truly A+ customer service! The pickup and drop-off process was also super easy, which made the whole experience stress-free.
The van itself was perfect – super clean, beautifully finished, and very well equipped. The layout was neat, organised, and thoughtfully designed, making it feel like a home on wheels.
If you’re looking for a campervan in New Zealand, specifically in Christchurch, I can’t recommend Kit Campers enough.

The camper van (Toyota Hiace) was the perfect fit for two people or less — cozy, well-designed, and reliable. While it’s not the most powerful vehicle on steep uphills, it handled everything we needed without any real issues.
Pricing was very competitive compared to other options we looked at, and we felt it offered great value.
A special mention to Cherine, who went above and beyond in communication and support:
• She proactively reached out when our original booking wasn’t available due to a battery issue, and fairly offered us the original kit along with a refund option.
• When the van showed an engine light for a couple of days, she immediately arranged a quick diagnosis within about an hour. It didn’t cause any significant delay to our plans, which we really appreciated.
• The check-in and check-out process was smooth and hassle-free. Cherine gave us a thorough tour of the van at the start and made sure we had more than enough time to prepare and organize ourselves.
Additional Recommendation for Kit Campers
If another version is developed, I would suggest offering a model without the kitchen. During my trip, I always stayed at powered sites and found that I really didn’t use the built-in kitchen in the van. Removing it could free up generous space for a larger bed and additional storage, which I believe many travelers would appreciate.
All in all, Kit Campers delivered exactly what we were hoping for: a reliable, well-priced van, and fantastic service. Highly recommended!

We hired a little kit for our 12 days trip around the South Island. The service Cherine and the team provided was fantastic. Very easy to contact and very helpful with everything, answered all questions with no problems, even if the answers were already on the website.
We picked up and dropped off after hours - which was really easy and easy to follow their instructions.
We cut our hire sort as we decided to changed our plans, which was not a problem.
However, if you are tall. Hire the big kit. We will be next time! We were probably a bit tall for the bed. The van was clean and easy to use, instructions were clear and concise, they were emailed through and also in the van in a book.
We had a great time in this van.

The Big Kit Original has the same size bed as the Little Kit Original but our Little Kit 2.0 has a 2m long bed & we are in the middle of converting a Big Kit 2.0 which will have a 1.9m extension bed. Hopefully one of those options might suit you for your next hire 😃

Simply fantastic customer service from Cherine, which made our trip so hassle free. We were in the big kit 2 weeks in April, travelling the South Island. Mayor pros renting from Kit Campers:
- Cherine is wonderful and answers all emails quickly. She was super forthcoming to any issues we had and provided generous solutions
- Company does not require credit card, payment was easy
- Quick pickup, literally no wait time and we could pick up out of hours as well
- No issues with the car + it drives well. I love driving a Ford, so I'm a little biased, but we had zero hick-ups or issues along the way.
- A lot of details are thought out; there is trash bags, dish-washing and cleaning liquids, fairy lights, camping chair and table, thermos cups, knives are sharp, etc., etc.
- interior was nice and clean, we also liked all the light wood inside.
Some things to consider when choosing between little vs. big kit;
The Big kit has a smaller bed. Cherine advised us of this specifically, so that's on us. I'm about 162cm and would not recommend people taller than me going for a 180cm bed, unless you know you feel fine about that. There is also no window in the back area. This is fully visible in the pics, we just hadn't really noticed/thought about it. Consider if you have a tendency to feel claustrophobic, I personally had to swap my partner for the outermost spot to be comfy enough, and found it a bit box-like.
All in all, it's so nice to feel like you're dealing with a firm that cares about its customers. Fair prices as well. We can only recommend!

Cherine was fantastic to deal with, the van was clean, comfortable and easy to drive.
We really appreciated the all the little extras that were included in the van to make life easier, like hand-wash, dishwashing liquid, tea towel, and even a speaker; they thought of everything!
We did have an accident with a bollard and Cherine was very understanding and went out of her way to source a reasonable priced replacement.

Cannot recommend KitCampers enough!
Celebrated our honeymoon by hiring a van to travel around the south island of New Zealand and Cherine and the team at KitCampers made the whole experience so incredibly friendly and easy!
The van was perfect for what we wanted to do, nice and easy to drive and very well set up. Everything we needed for our trip was included in the van, cutlery, blankets, even towels!
The included manual makes it so easy to know how everything works in the van too!
Overall a wonderful experience!

We booked the Little Kit 2.0 camper from Kit Campers in March over the Easter holiday period for 2.5 weeks. They were by far the best value for money option we could find. The Camper is quite small and at first it worries you, but I can assure you it is the perfect size for 2 people to share. They have everything you need within the campers and the blankets/pillow etc were a dream. We didn't have any issues the entire 2.5 weeks and we loved Little Kit 2.0 so much, it was sad to leave her back in the carpark on check out. In addition to this, Cherine has been amazing to deal with. The check in process was so simple and quick, communications between myself and Cherine were quick and easy. On check out, there was a timezone change and we had to rush quickly to the airport meaning that we couldn't drop the rubbish off or give the camper a proper decent clean out, but Cherine was very understanding and told us that they would handle it. The bond was given back to us and all communications since have been great. We can't recommend Kit Campers enough - we will certainly be using them again in the future and thank you so much to Little Kit 2.0 for looking after us the whole trip!! It was definitely one to remember.
