We were so lucky to work with Haleigh from K9aholics, and I truly appreciate all the support and training she gave us. Our story started with a tough situation—we had a puppy that, no matter how hard we tried, just wasn’t the right fit for our family.
From the very beginning, Haleigh showed incredible dedication and understanding. She went out of her way to make a house call, which was an hour each way, just to help us when we were worried about our pup’s behavior. Her willingness to spend her time and energy showed how much she cared about both our dog and our family.
Since we knew our first puppy wasn’t the right match for us, Haleigh helped us by connecting us with a friend who breeds amazing Labradors. This connection was a game-changer for us, and we met a new puppy who instantly became part of our lives.
The new puppy joined K9aholics’ “Puppy University,” where Haleigh and her team worked their magic. They kept us in the loop with regular updates and reports every couple of days, so we always knew how our puppy was doing. It was so reassuring to see how well they were taking care of her.
When it was time to pick up our puppy after she graduated, the team sat us down for a lesson on the training techniques they used. They patiently showed us everything, making sure we felt ready to continue training at home. Our puppy’s manners are now wonderful, and we owe it all to K9aholics.
The trainers at K9aholics became so attached to our dog and were really sad to see her go, but they were also incredibly proud of how much she had improved. Their affection and pride were clear, and it warmed our hearts to know our puppy was in such loving hands.
I can’t recommend K9aholics enough. If we ever need boarding or training again, I’ll definitely come back. Five stars just don’t seem enough to describe the amazing work and dedication we experienced with Haleigh and her team.
K9Aholics are good at what they do. They helped me understand what to do and what not do to. They also trained my dog for 2 weeks with the board program. They taught me what to do so he can keep up with his trainings. They are really nice and considerate. I got frequent updated during those 2 weeks on how my dog was doing. So communication and the training was a 10/10. Would recommend. ❤️
The staff at K9Aholics is amazing. They truly care about doing whatever it takes working with your dog to set them up for success. We have a rescue that was abused and nervous around new people and they did everything to establish trust and a relationship with him. Throughout the 4 week training program they worked at his pace and comfortability level and once he loved them they worked their magic. They expected greatness out of him and made him do stuff because they knew he was capable of it. Every week they went over what they worked with him on for us to carry into our daily routine. They will answer any questions you have, any time. They even added two weeks on free of charge to work with him more because they wanted him become the dog they knew he was capable of. Their passion and love for training dogs truly shows and if you're going to take your dog somewhere for training there's no other place that can compete.
I highly recommend K9Acholics. We have had both of our dogs go through their Day Training Program and had amazing results. Our dog Luna had been through 3 trainers prior to K9Acholics for her boundary and dog reactivity and none of the previous trainers were able to help her/us with her reactivity. Within 5 weeks, the trainers at K9Acholics have made it possible where we can take Luna out for walks and out in public without her reacting and starting to feel more confident in herself around other dogs. Our other dog Rueger also did the Day Training Program, where he was taught obedience, walking, recall, and was helped with his “Monkey see, Monkey do” reactivity that he learned from his “sister, Luna. We were first brought to K9Aholics by having a thorough, honest, and educational phone consultation with the owner, Cam. We were then able to view the facility ahead of time and meet some of the trainers. Kat, Acacia, and Mikayla were always so nice at pick up and drop off and were amazing with our dogs. Haleigh was the main trainer in regards to our dogs reactivities, and she is so thorough, personable, honest, and knows what she is doing. She, along with everyone else there, always took the time to talk to us and explain everything and make sure that we knew what to do at home. Our dogs are so much more confident in themselves, and so much better behaved and we as their owners are more educated and confident in our abilities with working with our dogs. I cannot recommend K9Aholics and their trainers enough. It is well worth the money. They kept our dogs safe, were always open and honest with everything, and did such an amazing job. If you have been looking for a good dog trainer, these are your people. Thank you to everyone at K9Aholics, y’all have made such a difference in our lives and our dogs lives💜
Great staff and communication. From our first over the phone consultation with Cam and our first visit to the facility everybody has been super friendly and upfront. These guys seem to genuinely enjoy their job (which seems to be hard to find these days) and they were always happy to spend time with our pets. We had 2 dogs go in for reactivity and are happy to report they have made leaps and bounds in improvement especially with a few offsite visits with Haleigh, who has been super easy to work with and very personable. We have gone through several trainers in the past but these guys are the real deal and we could not be happier. Having 2 dogs who could not see another dog or person through a window without reacting harshly to now having 2 dogs we can comfortably walk in public spaces without issue is a huge improvement to quality of life for us and our pets! Cannot recommend them enough!
All the trainers at K9aholics were so informative and there was great communication! My Jax is only 4 months old, the skills he learned will allow us to take him everywhere with us!! They truly care about the relationship they build not just with the dog but with the owners. They worked with me for over an hour when I picked Jax up to ensure I was confident for continuing the training at home!! I will work with them again.
Brought my puppies in for training on manners and had a great experience with Haleigh and the rest of the staff. She kept me informed on how my dogs were doing on the regular. I was referred by a friend who’s dog was excellent and I would 10/10 refer them to anyone that needs dog training at any age!!
Puppy Program - Results
I put my Puppy - Rocket (Texas Heeler), through the two-week puppy program that this K9Aholics runs. Rocket came back with all of the foundational skills expected from the program.
Puppy Program - Curriculum
- Commands -
"*Name*, Come" - A Verbal recall, followed by an implied sit.
"Sit" - Command to sit, with implied stay.
"Down" - Command to lay down, with implied stay.
"Place" - Command to go to a designated spot, with implied stay.
"Okay" - Releases puppy from any command. (They can go about their business, or your agenda)
- Other Words -
"Yes" - Reward word for doing the right thing (on the first attempt), accompanied by some form of payment (treat or affectionate touch.
"Good" - Strictly verbal reward word for staying in a position over a duration.
"Nu-uh" - Verbal negative, discourages actions that were not commanded or allowed.
- Other Learning -
They taught my puppy to automatically sit whenever we stop walking.
They will pair your puppy with a prong collar to give you the tolls to hold them accountable for undesired actions/ behavior.
Quality Assurance
At the end of his two-week boarding/ training program, they offered to keep him for two additional days free of charge to work through some of the things that he struggled with.

Crunch just finished the board & train program at K9aholics. All of the trainers took great care of her during her stay. You could tell how happy my dog was in the check-in videos, her tail was always wagging and she would receive lots of rewards/treats. The team was always very responsive with communication and happy to answer questions. My training session at pick-up was very thorough and helpful. I’m excited to see how this translates at the house, I’ve noticed some positive behavioral changes already. She is not barking at every dog/person out the window and we were able to have a much more organized walk together.
We loved having our dog at the 4-week day training program!! The entire team was so sweet, patient, and loving with Roxanne. They were firm and straightforward with us about how to reinforce training at home. By the end of the first week, Roxanne was so excited for her morning car rides to training. She went from a rambunctious, hyper pup and chronic leash-puller to having quick recall, long duration with sit/down/place, and walking calmly on her leash. We would recommend K9aholics to anyone looking for guidance with training their dogs, and an experienced and caring team to help carry it out.
Haleigh and Kat are absolutely wonderful. We’ve had our boy boarded a few times and just recently finished up a two week board and train with him. They were both amazing with Loki and made us more comfortable with our situation. We had a great experience with K9aholics! We used the 3 week board and train for our Great Dane/Great Pyrenees. I received a report card and video every few days and when my dog would not eat they came by my house and picked up food from me due to my busy schedule. They really care! They spent over an hour with us upon pickup going over everything. I was unable to take him on walks and he was very aggressive toward my other male dog. I am now able to walk him around the neighborhood and by other dogs with no care. I can place him and walk away and he stays. He still growls at my other dog, but I feel we are able to better handle him. I look forward to the follow up to make sure we are doing what we need to!
We were unsure how we could keep our dog with our family for her safety until we had our dog trained by the amazing dog trainers at K9Aholics! Our dog participated in the board and train program and has made a 180 in her negative behaviors and the stress level at our house has gone down markedly. We couldn’t be any happier with her training and the continued involvement in her obedience after her board and train stay. I would highly, highly recommend K9Aholics to anyone who is looking for caring and capable dog trainers in Hampton Roads!
K9Aholics is a is outstanding. I adopted a Pit Bull puppy (Azula) with lots of energy. They not only provided Azula with, they also provided me with the tools that I need to continue her training at home. My friends were a little standoffish prior to the training, but now they are more comfortable being around Azula. I really enjoyed the entire experience and will be taking Azula back for her second round of training once she is a little older.
