I’ve had a great experience living at Iglu Student Accommodation. The facilities are clean, modern, and well-maintained, and the atmosphere is welcoming and supportive for students. A special mention goes to Maggie, who does an outstanding job. She is always friendly, approachable, and willing to help with any questions or concerns. Her professionalism and genuine care for residents make a real difference and contribute greatly to the positive community at Iglu. I would highly recommend Iglu to any student looking for a comfortable, safe, and well-managed place to live.

Insights Into Iglu from an Intrepid Insider What comes to mind when you think of an igloo? A warm hut of ice surrounded by unforgiving plains of snow? Perhaps a cozy cabin in the woods offering refuge in times of need? How about an army of concrete behemoths that border the Hoddle grid, filled to the brim with international students and lost keycards? If you guessed the latter, you thought right. By far, Iglu’s pros outweigh its cons. I find myself drawn to the plethora of activities hosted by the live-in prefects humbly named the ‘resident leaders’, which promote social cohesion among the residents. I’m also drawn to the free weekday breakfasts which offset the unintentional intermittent fasting we’re subjected to as university students. The wide range of facilities are kept to a standard so high that you’d never guess they’re normally inhabited by university students. Iglus South Yarra property is situated just off Toorak road, which gives residents easy access to South Yarra station and nightlife central, Chapel Street. All the properties follow a strict colour scheme of orange, red and concrete to prevent a sterile feeling, something other student accommodation brands in Melbourne have failed to do. Dim lighting and extensive carpeting work together to make the resident feel as though they live in a cozy cabin, offering refuge in times of need. Like an Igloo. However, no amount of free breakfast or unlimited Wi-Fi can make you forget that the primary purpose of Iglu isn’t to house broke students, but to make money. A room where 6 bedrooms share a kitchen will set you (or your poor parents) back a heinous 580 dollars a week for a mere 14.5 square metres. If you’re doing a 6 month lease in a studio apartment you’ll have to fork out 685 dollars a week. Even within the student housing world, Iglu is an outlier in terms of price. For comparison, the rival student accommodation giant in Australia, Scape, prices their premium studio apartments between 560 and 580 dollars, and their shared rooms between 400 and 450 dollars. This depends on the location of course but still works out to be significantly cheaper. Laundry is expensive. 4 dollars to wash and another 4 dollars to dry seems excessive for something that costs next to nothing to run. This adds up faster than you’d expect. Rooms are small, sometimes too small for comfort. Being in a courtyard-facing room in the lower floors can really exacerbate this claustrophobia, as if you’d like some sunlight in one of these rooms you will open your blinds to an audience of other residents. This is of course dependent on the direction of the sun, which for the majority of the year won't even reach that far down. Perhaps I’m finding things to complain about because I need this review to be balanced. Perhaps I’m vain and want attention. Iglu South Yarra is actually quite good.

Easily one of the worst student accommodations I’ve lived in. For a place that claims to support students, the level of support is incredibly disappointing. Staff are meant to be available during business hours, yet it often feels impossible to get assistance when you actually need it. Communication is poor, issues take forever to be addressed, and residents are left to figure things out on their own. The constant fines and strict rules make it feel like management is more focused on making money than creating a comfortable living environment. Moving out was a headache, and the whole experience left a bad impression. To be fair, there are a few staff members who are genuinely helpful and friendly, but unfortunately they seem to be the exception rather than the rule. Some staff come across as dismissive and unprofessional, which only adds to the frustration. If you’re a student looking for accommodation in Brisbane, I’d strongly recommend renting a house or apartment with friends instead. In many cases it’s cheaper, offers more freedom, and provides a far better quality of life than staying here

Hi Mehul,

We understand that break lease charges are never ideal, but the process at Iglu is in line with RTA guidelines and the information you received from our team was consistent with what any provider would advise.

We did reach out to you directly to check in and see if we could assist any further, and we stand behind the professionalism and care our team has shown throughout. We appreciate that this style of living isn't for everyone, and we wish you all the best.

I’ve really enjoyed living at Iglu Melbourne. The customer service is amazing – the staff are always friendly, helpful, and quick to assist whenever needed. A special mention to security guards Sam and Saed, who are always welcoming, professional, and happy to help. They really make the building feel safe and create a great atmosphere for students. Overall, it’s been a great place to live and study, and I’d definitely recommend it to other students.

It was a great stay at Iglu!! Such a great atmosphere, the Iglu team is very friendly. There is breakfast from Monday to Friday and a lot of activities offered during the weeks. It’s more expensive than other flats but it’s worth it! A stay here is definitely recommended.

Fantastic student accommodation in the heart of Sydney city. Location is unbeatable, being a 15 minute walk to the University of Sydney, Darling Harbour, and Central Station. The amazing facilities (table tennis, pool, movie room, numerous study spaces) and free continental breakfast everyday (and the occasional special hot breakfast) were also highlights of my stay. The staff are super warm and supportive, and make a big effort to help you out with any issues. Special thanks to Adam, Boizen, Maggie, Molly, Cobie, Fran, and Vanessa! Highly recommend this place :)

I’ve been living at Iglu Central Park since 2024, and over time it has genuinely become my second home. One of the best things about living here is the location — it’s only a 2-minute walk to UTS, right next to Central Park Mall where I do all my groceries, and so close to Spice Alley whenever I want a quick takeout meal with friends. Having supermarkets, restaurants, transport, and uni all within walking distance makes student life so much easier. The building itself is newly renovated, modern, and honestly feels very luxurious compared to many other student accommodations. The rooms and common spaces are always clean, comfortable, and beautifully maintained. There’s a 24/7 gym, laundry facilities, study spaces, movie room, BBQ areas, and so many spaces where residents can relax or socialise. There’s free weekday breakfasts. They always make mornings better, and there are often special breakfasts too, from sushi and pizza to bakery goods and other treats throughout the semester. It’s small things like this that really make residents feel cared for and appreciated. What truly makes Iglu special though is the people. Every CSC brings their own positive energy and contributes to making the environment welcoming and supportive. Adam is always approachable and dependable, kind as always, Maggie brings such friendly and uplifting energy to the desk and amazing events, Boizen always creates a welcoming atmosphere and great advice, Molly is incredibly thoughtful and kind, always with a smile, and Cobie always makes residents feel comfortable and heard. I also want to say thank you to past CSCs Liam, Reni, and Stella for everything they contributed during their time here. Their kindness and support helped shape the warm community environment that makes Iglu feel like home. A huge thank you as well to the management team — David, Vanessa, Fran, Dean, and the entire crew — for all the work they do behind the scenes to make Iglu such an enjoyable place to live. A special thank you as well to Dean, Marko, Luke, and Richard from the maintenance team for all their hard work and dedication. They are always incredibly friendly, approachable, and quick to respond whenever help is needed, within 24 hours. Any maintenance requests are handled efficiently and professionally, which really contributes to making the building feel comfortable, safe, and well cared for. I’m also proud to be a Resident Leader at Iglu myself. Throughout the month, we organise events and activities for residents, creating opportunities for everyone to take a break from study and have fun together. From sports and DIY activities to cooking sessions and social events, there’s always something happening, and it’s amazing seeing the positive feedback and connections that come from these experiences. Adding on, there’s full security after hours once the staff is gone. The Resident Leaders will be on call after 10pm until the next day if anything is needed. Security will be on shift after 10pm until next morning which is amazing and secure. Security has also been one of the biggest reasons why both I and my parents have felt comfortable with me living at Iglu Central Park. The building is extremely secure, with residents using their mobile room key to access the building and facilities, meaning only residents have entry to the property. There are no random outsiders entering the space, which creates a very safe and comfortable environment for students. Iglu Central Park is more than just student accommodation, it’s genuinely a community. The people, events, facilities, and atmosphere are what make it feel like home away from home, and I’m really grateful for all the memories and friendships I’ve made here. Would choose Iglu Central Park any time of the day.
