I requested a quote for a specific move date and had someone come to survey the house and belongings. Two days later, I received a quote along with a contract of acceptance. I promptly filled out and signed the contract, returning it within 15 minutes. Shortly after, I received a curt email stating, "Unfortunately, we are now fully booked on the 15th." No alternative dates were suggested. After several emails, whereby I had to chase them for another time slot, they simply replied, "No, sorry." To be clear, this review isn't because the company had no availability. It happens! The review is based on my overall experience with their terrible customer service. Which is one of the poorest I've ever seen. After a very frustrating experience, I wished them an "awful weekend" and managed to book in with another company an hour later. Reply to the Owner: If the date I specified in the original request was no longer available, why wasn’t that communicated before you sent the contract? And why weren’t any alternative dates provided in your follow-up response when you informed me that the 15th was unavailable? I had to chase you for other available dates—twice! The issue isn’t about first come, first serve. I understand that businesses can only schedule based on their availability. The real problem is your dreadful communication (single sentence, dead end communication) and complete lack of good customer service, which you seem oblivious to. Which I can't help you with. Instead of talking about "disrespect", how about a little introspection. Focus your energy into being not completely awful for your next potential customer (god, help them).

We cannot thank the team for everything they did for us in helping my mum move house. Everyone was fantastic and when mum was stressing, they were brilliant with her and were so super amazing. They calmed her, talked her through everything and looked after her, and handled all her possessions with professionalism and caring. I was let down by a previous company who were unable to help us when we were advised of a moving date. Your company went out of their way to help us and to accommodate our timelines in such a short period of time. For this , at such a stressful time, everyone in your company was so helpful and accommodating.. I have no hesitation in recommending and giving 5 stars.

Hughes Removals moved us from York to Beverley a few weeks ago. The men from Hughes Removals were great - courteous, professional, helpful and their cheerful attitudes kept us smiling throughout. They took great care of our belongings and as a result nothing was broken or damaged. I definitely recommend this firm.

Casper, Mark and Adam moved us from York to Easingwold and we could not have asked for a nicer group of guys to help us. They moved us over 2 days and helped us with their humor, care and reassurances making the move much less stressful. The overall experience from the initial quote to payment was smooth and worth every penny (which was actually less Pennie’s than other quotes we’d had) I would highly recommend these guys. My partner and I had a very positive experience with Hughes Removals when we moved house a few weeks ago. We needed to arrange the move pretty quickly, as our landlord decided to sell our house at short notice, so we contacted Hughes Removals for a quote to pack up our belongings and move them to our new home. They responded quickly to arrange an initial visit to estimate how much work would be involved, and the man who did visited could not have been more helpful. He carefully explained the process to me and answered all my questions. The quote itself was very reasonable. The packing team came the day before the move and boxed everything up. They were a friendly bunch, and we left them with a spare set of keys while we went out for the day. It only took them a few hours to do a job that would have taken me the best part of a week! The removals team arrived punctually the next morning, and again worked efficiently and without any fuss. As before, we gave them spare keys to the new house, left them to it, and a few hours later got a text letting me know that they were all done! The bed had been dis-assembled and re-assembled as promised, and almost everything was placed in the correct room in the new house. Our crockery and glasses were all packed and moved carefully. Honestly, I was really dreading this house move. It happened very suddenly while both my partner and I were struggling with our disabilities, and it's been a stressful time all round. It was such a relief to have the Hughes Removals team make this part of the move go so smoothly, and I'm sure I'll use them again in the future.

The men from Hughes Removals were so good. Polite, efficient, careful when packing things away and the unpacking was done with such consideration to the aesthetics it was lovely. They were also very kind to my cousin who was a little agitated by it all. It made the whole packing & carpet laying etc go without a hitch and completed whilst I was there, such an easement for my cousin and myself.

I was so impressed with the removal men who were so courteous, efficient and professional. They worked tirelessly to empty my 3 storey house and went the extra mile ensuring my elderly mother had something to sit on until the last minute and then carefully arranged all the bedroom furniture that was moved to the bedroom at my Mum’s house. I would highly recommend.

Really happy with Hughes Removals. The service from the head office was perfect, they provided boxes and I felt the quote was fair for the job. They made my move from York to Newcastle smooth. I feel that some improvements could be made regarding communications between the teams loading and unloading- but this isn’t a dealbreaker and I’d hire them again. Thank you Hughes!

Hughes delivered exceptional service from the start to the finish of our house move.The communication and service was always above and beyond from the initial quote , the actual move and the uplift of boxes. The removal men were exceptional in speed , effort and pure hard work - this was carried out with good cheer at all times ….thank you so much and may I add with three lorries I had nothing damaged! From competitive quotation to completion Hughes’ Removals did an excellent job. All the staff concerned were friendly, helpful, responsive and professional. Hughes were flexible when we had to change dates and took trouble to fit us in. The loading was very efficient and careful. Despite being faced with two unpacking destinations and dire weather with a 2nd/3rd storey delivery the team were good humoured, worked with us and completed the job on time with no damage - we were so impressed. We would recommend Hughes with no hesitation.

Absolutely first class in every respect. This was the second time we’d used Hughes Removals and because of our first experience we didn’t get other quotes. Again, we felt the cost was extremely reasonable. In the months running up to the move, things became a little stressful with at least one date change. Ruth & Sheryl kept in touch throughout. On the day the two ‘movers’ were excellent, moving our furniture etc quickly, efficiently and with care. At the new property (smaller) they checked where we wanted things and offered to move anything if needed. They were friendly and professional from start to finish. We will definitely be recommending Hughes Removals to anyone planning a house move.
