As a project manager for a local contractor, Truwin Enterprises, LLC, I just like to acknowledge the professional work Jose and his team did for Truwin and our customer laying a new TREX Transcend deck and fascia on the existing joists of a 2nd floor balcony. Houston Deck and Shade went the extra mile replacing 7 or 8 sections of rotted 2x12 joists at no additional charge helping Truwin stay on budget. The project was started and completed in one day, so we were on time and on budget with a top-of-the-line professional product! Whether you’re a homeowner or contractor, you couldn’t ask for more.
The team of JD, Paul and Rusty did a great job repairing the lexan panels on our back deck, replacing split and worn stair treads and re-staining our front entry deck. We've used Houston Deck and Shade to design and build our decks and add on to an existing deck at our lakehouse. They have always been prompt and easy to work with. Their work is first rate.

We recently added a Trex deck to our lake house in Coldspring, Texas. We used Houston Deck and Shade. They did a gr8 job! Paul, the lead installer was phenomenal. He worked with me to achieve everything I envisioned with stairs and lighting. Every day before they left my yard was cleaned up and everything put up. We are very pleased with our new deck. HDS really produced a great final product - our bottom deck by our pool and spa. Memo & his crew worked very hard and showed up every day that the weather permitted. They cleaned up after themselves every day - much better than any other contractor we have used in the past. I would recommend that you speak with HDS about the details of the type of deck and accessories you want before finalizing the design. They can do a lot of extra things that really made our deck stand out! Highly recommended!
It is without hesitation that I would recommend Houston Deck and Shade for all deck projects, big or small. We had a deck on the back of our house that was approaching 20 years in age. It was made of wood, in poor condition, and had deteriorated with the passage of time. After several repairs and regular coats of deck stain, it was time for a replacement. We contacted Houston Deck and Shade, and they promptly came out and provided a competitive bid. Loren was professional, thorough, and respectful of our time as he spent a great deal of time understanding our needs and deck requirements. He then prepared a sketch and provided an estimated cost, which was reasonable and consistent with other project bids. The demolition started a few weeks later, and our new deck was completed another week later. We opted for the Trex decking material, and we’re pleased with that decision. It’s beautiful, sturdy, and looks much easier to maintain than your average wood deck. We also appreciate that both Houston Deck and Shade and Trex stand behind their product. This peace of mind is important.
As for the construction of the deck, this is where Houston Deck and Shade excels and sets themselves apart from other decking contractors. Their personnel is top shelf. Paul, who was our primary project supervisor and who was present every day to coordinate and perform work, was the ultimate professional. He communicated throughout the construction process, was always on time with the crew, and was respectful of our property and schedule. Paul and his team worked efficiently, cleaned up every day, and demonstrated a commitment to the end product meeting or exceeding our expectations. Paul and Jose make a great team, and they seem to genuinely care about the work they’re performing. (Having hired many contractors for various projects over the years, this is unfortunately not always the case.)
Attention to details is an important criteria for me, particularly when adding a large deck and making a significant investment for your property.
