We went to see the summer show the evening of Blackpool pride 2026. I've been to funny girls loads, but this is the first time without Betty and Zoe both not being there.
Things have changed a lot, there's a new VIP seated area smack bang in the middle of the standing room area. This really took away from the dancing atmosphere as these people didn't dance etc, and the standing space tickets now limit you to each side, so you are crammed on these areas and can't see the show well. Easy enough to get to the bar though.
The performance itself was good, but nothing compared to what it used to be. The dancers don't have the talent of Betty and the host has near to no comic timing. They could have been any 100s of pretty drag queens that are about, but do lack character and wit.
The men were good dancers, but overshadowed the girls, which I always thoughts should be the main attraction. This reflect the fact I didn't take more than 3 photos the entire night. Usually my phone is full of videos and photos
I also noticed how the crowd is getting older. Ive been going for around 10 years now, but looking around there was very few people under 30 there. It also doesn't seem like a place a lot queer people go to anymore, as looking around it was 80% straight couples and hen does.
I get that things need to change but it didn't make me think about going again anytime soon. I'll have a look at what else is available and probably support the smaller venues where their talent is growing.
