Now completing my fifth month in The Flute Academy, I'm confident to write an objective and honest review. To state it simply, Jane Cavanagh is the flute teacher I wish I'd always had. This is not a statement I make without significant thought. A long-time professional musician and music educator (B.Mus., M.Mus., & Ph.D. degrees), I've been blessed to have had many fine instructors throughout the years. Based on the improvements I've made following her expert advice, I believe Jane to be among the finest. As a multi-instrumentalist whose primary instrument is the guitar, I've always wanted my flute playing to be on par with my guitar playing. While my flute abilities are not yet equal with my guitar abilities, my rapid improvement gives me hope that perhaps they eventually will be. For this, I credit Jane and her well-crafted curriculum. I've never been this excited and encouraged to take my flute playing to the next level.

I subscribed to Jane’s school in January when I decided to take up playing again after a 35 year break. I just love being able to go back through her lessons every time I encounter a problem. Thanks to Jane I had a huge break through yesterday when I suddenly felt my throat tension and mouth tension disappear and everything felt easy (easier). At first I thought the lessons very short but they are straight to the point and perfectly organized. I can’t recommend Flute Academy enough. I am looking forward to the advanced technique lessons and repertoire classes. Who know? Perhaps I’ll even do a master class one day! Thanks Jane and Rachel

I have been a member since a few months now and I really enjoy being a member. I followed the 45 day practice and learned a lot. I use all the tips in my daily practice. After a few months break I joined the Academy again and I am so happy to be back. The instructions of Jane are very encouraging.

After 2 years of trying to teach myself to play the flute I discovered the Flute Academy. Jane's method of teaching incremental tweaks to technique have improved my tone, breath control, posture and musicality incredibly. Also I am now able to play tunes that have a wider range of higher notes. Whilst the academy isn't for complete beginner, for anyone who wants to improve their technique the Flute Academy is ideal.

The Flute Academy has helped me in so many areas to improve my flute-playing abilities. I have played flute (incorrectly) for so many years and with poor tone. These lessons have helped me straighten out more issues with my playing than I could have imagined. Everyday in the Academy, it is like having a private lesson that has focused on fixing a small problem which, in a short time, has led to surprising imrpovements in my breath control, tone, and the ability to control my flute. This course is a winner!

A step by step course. Every day trying to put the large amount of provided teaching material into practice. Every now and then looking back , where was I then, where I am now and you recognize the progress you are making. I'm thrilled about the results.

I found The Flute Academy a useful resource to improve my flute playing. Jane breaks down techniques to play the flute and obtain a great sound. There are workshops and series to undertake where different aspects of flute playing and music theory are addressed. The Flute Academy is highly recommended!!

I was quite skeptical about believing all that Jane was offering. Let me tell assure you, you will get way more out of her lessons than she promises. I played flute as a teen and had not touched a flute in 50 years, so, as you can imagine I was starting over again. It came back to me, but I knew I was doing a lot of things wrong. I joined because I wanted to have good technique. Jane’s 45 day transformation helped me in so many ways. My granddaughter plays flute in middle school. My desire was to surprise her on her birthday that I had relearned flute and that we could play duets together. It was a great success! I have so enjoyed my flute journey and I couldn’t have done it without Jane.

I strongly recommend the 45 days transformation to any adult flute learner that wishes to make faster noticeable progress. It covers the many aspects that influence the quality of your sound (breathing, embouchure, arms position, … you name it!) so that you can count on a check list of what you can correct, even slightly, to get some improvements, instead of feeling frustrated when you can’t identify what are you doing wrong, as was my case before.
Her motto “improvement, not perfection” and the notion of “brain space” have really changed my approach to flute playing.

There is always something new to learn and study. And I just love the way Jane can by examples show what is right and wrong or a matter of taste when you play something. It is so nice to go through the lessons suitable to your own pace, ability and age. I do not mind British or US English but Australian English is becoming more of a favourite. This is the best thing that has ever been available to me as a flute player seeking improvement. I began as an adult for hobby purposes and I have developed improper technique. Just three modules in, transformation is exactly the correct description of the Flute Academy! I feel like I have a new (worldwide) family. There is just so much to offer! Jane is so real and so down to earth! She is personally inspiring and so positive to "be" with! I will be a student in this academy for as long as I'm able!
